Wailmer watching had become even more famous these months ever since a shiny Wailord had been spotted swimming with the younger Pokemon. Of course, a ship had set out to try and spot the legendarily exciting sight. Kaida certainly wasn't here for sightseeing (though she admitted the sight was amazing), she was here to ensure the safety of both the wild Pokemon and those who rode on this ship to study the creatures. Even without the shiny present, the Pokemon deserved peace from rabid fans. [break][break]

Kaida leaned over the railing, getting to know how much she disliked boats. They rocked, it was hot everywhere, and she feared falling into the waters at all times. Flying was much less dangerous feeling. The air was fresh though, a win over her own dislike. Naturally, her Pokemon enjoyed the salt air and sun. Under the waves, she occasionally saw Njor and Din surface briefly, the two aquatic Pokemon ensuring that nobody sent out a Pokemon to chase the group. Draugr, in a way only a ghost could, flickered in and out of sight, sometimes retreating to Kaida's side, and sometimes resting on the roof. Ormr enjoyed the sunbathing aspect of this job, stretched out on a chair Kaida convinced a fellow sunbather to abandon. The heat invigorated the reptile, without overheating him. [break][break]

This, unaware of familiar faces on this ship, Kaida breathed in the scent of the waved and stretched further over the railing. She didn't think she could be blamed. Unless a predator attacked, what could possibly interrupt the job? It almost felt a vacation.

The Surf roared towards her Pokemon, all-consuming and powerful, there was nothing else to do. "Hold on!" She cried out, seeing the only thing her Pokemon could do was not fall into the water. Bragi leaned down, one arm over her face and, miraculously, held on. Her natural electric typing and ongoing Charge helped stave off the damage, though her muscles started up a terrible pain. Ormr was about as lucky, the impact staved off a little by his Stockpile, but sending the smaller serpent tumbling across his little island. Damaged but still in the running, her Pokemon made for battle. [break][break]

A long-range battle was in the stars and, luckily, her Pokemon were similarly built for such a battle. Bragi's strumming Charge stopped suddenly as she made a bold leap to another island, one hand trying to point at the songstress of the Pokemon world. The Tentacruel might be in the way, but if she could get a shot, it would be perfect. A long screech rung out as Bragi clawed at her chest, and fired off a loud bolt of electricity. Overdrive screamed towards the Pokemon, exploding forward with both the force of Charge and her Punk Rock. She crashed onto the other island, a little closer, in a clumsy caricature of a combat roll. Uncertain if Ormr had the same idea, Kaida pointed towards the other opponent, "Help Bragi, Ormr, stay far, don't bite." Don't try and knock it out. Comfortably far, as Bragi made her leap, Ormr reared up and aimed at the Tentacruel, a spit of acid flying. Acid Spray was not meant to harm it, not at all, but it would make all attacks supported by this long-range play do more damage. Now, even if the Primarina was defended, damage would still build quickly.

Kaida wrinkled her nose with a grumbling sound, "Rules." Yes, yes, she understood the means of making sure people didn't harm each other (heaven knew people needed it) but it was all hopelessly restricting to one who already knew not to do wrong! Of course she knew to do good, wasn't that common instinct!? "I think I was careful." [break][break]

She seemed unswayed as Lars explained his own Pokemon were more used for wild situations. It didn't matter to her, he was still skilled, even if that experience wasn't direct battle. Quickness, thought, that was what she was looking for. Call it prideful, but she trusted a Pokemon from the Rangers to think than from a trainer. [break][break]

Then, badges were brought up. [break][break]

A hand raised to scratch rather sheepishly at the side of her head, "Yes I've...actually started." Pride leaked through her hesitant smile, "No battles either, but I want to have them." A badge for getting through a maze was rather unremarkable, but it proved her survivability. "They'll, ah, they'll let others know I'm strong...without any doubts." She needed others to know, to respect that, to know she knew what she was doing. No doubts, not at her. [break][break]

At the word "outside", Svart jumped to her feet with abrupt movement, only pausing to grab another sandwich handed her way. Good family, this one. "I think she's ready." Kaida swung upwards, picking up Ormr so that he might watch, "I'll try to be careful." Confident words, with a new new Pokemon.

A barking rung out in the Outskirts, the only thing breaking over it being Kaida's own voice, a little scratchy as she raised her voice over and over again. "Fafnir! Over there!" She roared and pointed into an alleyway, where a gaggle of Murkrow miserably huddled together, unable to move. If not for Garmr's nose, Kaida might have have not even seen it. From the skies came a Salamance, abruptly wrapping the flock in its forearms, the great dragon paid no heed to the frightened squawks. They'd understand soon. [break][break]

Shelters. Cooling centers. They were all well and good, if the Pokemon managed to reach it. She was here for the wild Pokemon that couldn't move, that feared humans too much, were too far from a water source to survive. [break][break]

And they reached it, Kaida's make-shift river. Say what you will about lack of infrastructure, but the crumbling roads made for great holders of water. A Huntail and Gorebyss swam in the contained water, completely cool as they shot off random Hydro Pumps and Blizzards, weakened for purposes of cooling. [break][break]

Stomping over to one of the shallow waters, Fafnir (rather unceremoniously) dumped the birds, turning and rumbling after Garmr. The Snubble and Salamance seemed well-suited for this job, possessing enough energy and well-placed Ice Fangs to stave off the heat...better than Kaida, at least. The heat would be unpleasant in the worst of times, but running in the suffocating sun, with no easy way of retreat, had thoroughly drained the woman. [break][break]

From the waters, Kaida saw the blurred imagine of a Gorebyss, Din, rear up and try to fire off a blast of a brief Blizzard towards Kaida, but it was too late. The change in temperature only made her head spin, and she felt a terrible dizziness before something held her up, two scaled hands. Od and Jotun, an Inteleon and Feraligatr worridly guiding her towards one of the empty artificial rivers. [break][break]

Maybe I pushed too hard.

Scorching heat poured down on the woman, her Durant nearby wheezing as she settled under some nice shade. Kaida and her team were true reptiles, extreme tempatures in either direction slayed them, leaving her team under the protection of shade and the coolness of the ocean. It was actually pretty picturesque. [break][break]

Kaida acted on instinct as Svart hissed and suddenly ran away, the mysterious trees suddenly moving. The egg-headed Pokemon were in a way, amusing, but she didn't want to see if their blind movement cracked somebody else's eggs. Even though it took away the wonderful shade, she threw a Pokeball. A girl was coming out to help? A briefly flash of irritation swam in Kaida's eyes, nobody else but a little one was coming to help!? How did that happen? Still, she had to be grateful, even a young person could be good at what they did. "Then stay near, Ormr here can smell that they're close." The Ekans let out a slight hiss, supporting her statement. It could wait to declare battle, or could attack the moment they were in sight, so Kaida was working to be a little cautious about this. [break][break]

As if just remembering that they were strangers, Kaida briefly held put her hand, "Ah...I am Kaida, thank you for helping me." Her face didn't shift much, but there was a sort of warmth to it, an attempt at politeness and normality. "My team will head in first," She nodded towards Jord, capable of Enduring most attacks at least once, "If you can, support us." It seemed Kaida had decided she was the leader of this particular case, if only for the fact that she was a Ranger.

Kaida blinks in surprise as the gym leader himself comes to greet them, something she was expecting to experience this particular Gym. Why even have a receptionist then? With a tug on Bragi's hand, she led them forward, promptly discovering why they were greeted. Whether it was a question to discover what happened to her, or a genuine interest in her well-being, Kaida still grumbled slightly before answering, "As fine as ever. Still alive, aren't I?" Thankfully, his Pokemon looked ready to battle from the get-go, a mist swirling around the battlefield and a shimmering Barrier up. She was only lucky that these particular two didn't rely much upon crippling the opponent or physical attacks. Still, she grunted for Bragi's attention and tapped her own cheek, shaking her head. Don't use Nuzzle unless I say so. Ormr needed no instruction, his strategy needed no change. [break][break]

Standing at her end of the arena, Kaida returned her two Pokemon, rearing back to throw them and speaking her dues, "Thank you for battling me. Let's go hunt!" Her words signaled her own beginning, a promise that she could watch her Pokemon's backs. Bragi and Ormr emerged on two different slabs of land, Kaida already attempting to start two seperare battles and avoid Bragi's friendly fire...water didn't exactly let Bragi shoot with no consideration to Ormr. [break][break]

Ormr's mouth yawned open, an unseen energy being inhaled and lurking right under his scales, both a chance to heal and defenses rising with one move. On another slab, Bragi played a scratchy tune, electricity coming off her fingers as she danced in place, Charging. From her point of view, Kaida watched carefully, hoping to catch what would happen.

Kaida had snatched a sandwich the moment the opportunity presented itself, quickly working to split it in half as Svart climbed to her feet, mouth-parts working incessantly. Before the Durant could cause a ruckus, she had the food in her mandibles, calming as Kaida sighed and started working on her own food. [break][break]

"He seemed surprised, I think. Probably didn't know I was alive." Well, that would be obvious, wouldn't it? "And he kept bringing up that there was alot of people breaking rules." She couldn't help but let out a harsh sound, a mix of laughter and a snort, and containing all the mockery of each, "I tried not to say anything...and then he said he was glad I was ok. That...would be a lie, right?" As if having the memory again, she bit angrily into her sandwich. The man had felt so perfectly human, and Kaida was finding she was starting to understand what she felt, she hated it. [break][break]

"I actually thought we could practice together, in battle." Her speech slowed, uncertain, "We can make less mistakes next time something happens and jobs...help...but-" Protecting civilians was noble and fine for training, but she wasn't going to pretend it truly prepared for the danger she had been in, "Just an idea, you must be skilled, and Svart needs to get strong fast." She couldn't afford to sit around, and if the little ones of her family were already getting stronger, so did the newcomers. A pack of highly skilled Pokemon was far better than a singular one.
