WELCOME TO AFTERNOON TEA




WELCOME TO THE FLEUR TEA ATELIER a sophisticated tea house of many stories. Although the lower floors feature spaces for enjoying specialty teas and fanciful pastries, the upper floors are dedicated to battling. After all, being this close to Hoenn's Pokemon League means you are within a diverse community of formidable trainers.[break][break]

After some time conversing and enjoying the service, the maître d'hôtel arrives in a smart suit. A Mr. Mime wheels in a fanciful room service trolley beside him. On top of the trolley, is a large cloche. "you are all signed up for the tiered tea room challenge, yes? what is your team's name?" [break][break]

He pulls out a notepad and pen, expecting an answer. Afterward, he asks his Mr. Mime to reveal the contents underneath the cloche. Several items for your Pokemon to equip are revealed.

After selections are made (or not made), he directs you all to wooden staircase. "bon courage! may you all get on like a house on fire!" He offers a hint with a smile.[break]

IN THIS ITERATION of the "tower challenge" style of events, held items have made an appearance. Your character can only HOLD 1 HELD ITEM AT A TIME. They may utilize the held item at any time on any of their Pokemon.[break][break]

Occasionally, there will be opportunities to switch the held item with another in between rounds. You do not need to select a held item nor use one.

"Well, I was the last to join, so that's up to you guys." Derek says, turning to the individuals he'd been grouped with. Only one of them is a familiar face, though they're not exactly friends. At the very least, Cat has earned his trust. And, in any case, it was just a name. Nothing that would have an impact on their efforts throughout the challenge.

It was actually the words of their host that came to attention. Get on like a house on fire? He talked just like the crazy doctor lady at the Soiree. Though unlike her, it was a lot more suspicious. Moving over to the offerings, he selected one with that in mind. Fool me once...

Serena finished braiding her blonde hair as she eyed the goods they brought in. There was excitement and anticipation in the air. It was to be expected though, they were about to begin this much anticipated contest after all. When asked about the team name she glanced around at her team. All were familiar faces except for one, the one that would speak next. [break][break]

"Well, I was the last to join, so that's up to you guys." Serena hummed as she ran a nail over the items she had to choose from. After much deliberation she decided to pluck the rawst berry and move on. It'd taken a second for her to pick and in that time she hadn't heard any suggestions. "What about Misfits?" she asked as she turned towards the rest of the team. [break][break]

Short, sweet, simple, and with the little bit of unique edge that she always liked.

Oscar lightly rubbed his sunken eyes, clearing his throat as the maître D made his little introduction. He was still in the realm of feeling horrible, though his treatments were slowly making it easier to function again. Still, if he must have missed a memo somewhere because he had no idea this was a trainer challenge kind of establishment. When had invited him he thought there would be like--actual tea and shit. You know, like a fancy brunch. 

Oscar sighed, "We could have at least had some doughnuts first or something. Ugh, fuckin' throat hurts." Oscar grumpily grabbed a Mental Herb, spinning it between his fingers as the others discussed a name for their group. was recognizable, even in her streamer façade, the other two however were strangers. Oscar would introduce himself when he was in a better mood. Or he would just let Rowan do it if it came up. 

Oscar did not really care what they called themselves, but being a grouch he decided to throw out a sarcastic suggestion. "The Tea Baggers."

ON THE FIRST CHALLENGE FLOOR, a KINDLER finishes wrapping up a bundle of kindling. His Magby helps too, its small claws careful not to tear the rope.[break][break]

The Kindler wipes his brow. Quickly, his Magby scuttles through his legs and faces the challengers ahead. "ah! so it's time. although moltres and her avatar may have disappeared, her flame burns strong within the kindler clan." He nods to the small Magby as it opens its rounded beak. "avoid being BURNED by chimney's fires!"[break][break]

The Magby leaps and fires a WILL-O-WISP at every single Pokémon you've summoned.[break][break]

In the middle of the room's flooring, an inscription is written:[break]
"Once there were four.[break]
And one looked upon time's steady pace.[break]
And one looked upon the expanse of space.[break]
And one looked through its pane,[break]
And one looked for disorder to maintain.[break]
Only two did set out,[break]
the fullness of future they did seek,[break]
the world's far end would they greet."

"Oh, hey Rowan." Derek mentions with a quick wave before returning his gaze to the rest of them. "Misfits by majority, then! Let's get to it, yeah? We didn't come here for the tea." His attempts to raise morale would hopefully do more than make a bad impression.

Quick to advance and be the first reveal his pokemon of choice, Derek's Charizard promptly exits the pokeball, braving the will-o-wisp as if it were a gentle breeze. That was all there was to it. So much for the berry, he thought.

Stepping forward, Derek notices part of the floor features some kind of text. As he reads, the inscription seems to regard entities that stood watch over time, space and much more. The first two could easily be attributed to legendary pokemon, but the latter two were not as blatantly obvious. Though, admittedly, Derek didn't pay these matters much mind.

The Moltres avatar disappeared? That was news to him, though he wasn’t particularly surprised considering what occurred at the Star Soiree. Assassins from another universe were coming through, intent on murdering avatars and their legends. She must have been one of them, a shame. “Fire? Not a problem.”

A hand reached towards the Pokéball on his hip, tossing out his Araquanid onto the venue. Will-O-Wisp couldn’t penetrate the bubble of dew that clung to the Pokémon, extinguishing the flames with ease. “A riddle, huh?” Rowan stepped over beside Derek, glancing down at the inscription with a raised brow. “I fucking suck at riddles.”

First challenge, should not be too difficult at least. Except it was, not only was their a bizarre riddle but the room was fucking fire themed. Oscar sighed heavily, "There is no way this could be OSHA approved. Isn't this building like fifty percent wood? Whatever..."

Oscar threw out a pokeball, releasing Grievous the Blaziken. Grievous immediately went into his fighting position, but Oscar quickly called out to him. "No just--just stand still. This isn't a battle." Grevious looked back at Oscar, greatly confused and disappointed. He never got to fight anymore. 

The blaziken's shoulders slumped forward, and it just waited as the will-o-wisp harmlessly passed through him. 

tl;dr
--Oscar sent out Blaziken, a Fire type immune to Burn.

Her name for the team was chosen and things quickly began to unfold one after the other. Good thing she had been reminded to pay attention to that hint, it would seem things would be heating up here soon. After initial words and performances were shown Serena's eyes drifted towards the floor where a peculiar inscription lay. [break][break]

After a few moments of silence she pursed her lips. She wasn't even going to pretend she was good at riddles. If anything her recent exploits with the charm holders showed that much to her. Still she couldn't help but wonder if it could be linked back to all of that mess, this curious inscription that is. [break][break]

To be fair, every time she ran into something suspicious like this her mind wandered if this could be some sort of clue to help them solve that puzzling mystery. On one had, it probably was nothing of the sort, but with the groups hands being tied as they were she couldn't afford to rule anything out. [break][break]

"....Right. Progression." she muttered to herself as she reminded herself of where she was. Tossing out a pokeball, Gwenom, her Salazzle appeared. A fire type immune to burn, no need to use her precious held item for now. Gwen looked back at her for instructions and Serena just shook her head. "Sit tight and look pretty for now." she said with a grin towards her partner.

YOU HAVE SUCCEEDED AND ARE USHERED TO THE SECOND FLOOR. The wall tall windows are all opened. Beautiful, white curtains billow from the window frames like maiden dresses. At the other end of room, a trainer dressed in an aerodynamic uniform waits with their Aerodactyl.[break][break]

He waves to the team, the extended arm revealing the synthetic patagium. "a long time ago, during the primal age, rayquaza had to calm the titans of the sea and land! the two wanted nothing but to keep all the natural energy of this region for themselves. i wouldn't be surprised if rayquaza felt the same way too." The Sky Trainer beckons for his Aerodactyl and with a caw, it flaps its leathery wings. It soars toward the ceiling and waits in mid-air. "can you land a hit on my aerodactyl? it's pretty high up thanks to FLY!"[break][break]

Around the room, an inscription is written:[break]

Easy enough. Derek returned his Charizard in favor of another pokemon, one that'd surely make it clear that the Aerodactyl was not safe no matter where it went.

"I know you can reach it. Get on up there - Ice Punch!"

Looking between it's trainer and the given challenge it was presented, the Machamp hurled upwards with a rime-covered fist looking to connect with the face of their adversary. When it did, the trainer was able to move forward and glean over more of the inscriptions that were present on the floor. The two regarded as walking with an almighty god were blatant enough, though the wish of the one(s) who dwelled in comfort garnered more and more of his curiosity...

Team Misfits seemed to do a fabulous job passing the initial round. Then again, Serena had no doubts in her team. After all they were stacked with capable people. Besides, the first challenge wasn't too difficult anyway. She looked forward to the next one. As the team was led to the next area her eyes enjoyed the view so far. [break][break]

This place was heckin' gorgeous. More opening statements from the next challenger and this particular rocket beast saw her eyes drifting upwards. "Hmm" she hummed as an idea came to mind. She reached for Gwen, her Salazzle's pokeball and returned her exchanging her for a newcomer on her team, Horus, her Pidgeot.[break][break]

"This might be a bit much but I've been looking forward to trying something like this for a while. You down to limit test with me?" She asked her partner with a smirk. Horus flashed her a knowing look. He was always down for a good time, and his trainer knew that well. Serena got her hands on a nice little prize and she'd be making use of it for this challenge. [break][break]

With a flash Horus mega evolved into a brilliant Mega Pidgeot. The colors of his wings and hair reflected beautifully in the light. "Sweet." Serena hummed as she pointed upwards towards his target. "Make it count." Now that Horus was mega'd he also had the ability no guard which would allow his attack to connect with the Aerodactyl even high up in the air because of fly. With a huff Horus used AIR SLASH in the direction of his target, confident of hitting his mark.

A new challenge was presented, one that Rowan was confident he could surmount the moment he looked over the Aerodactyl. “Rayquaza, huh?” Another Pokémon of legend was described, the familiar stories of Groudon and Kyogre being echoed as well. There seemed to be some pattern involved, but he didn’t have enough information to discern the answer. “Come on out, Sirocco.”

The Pelipper appeared in a flash, flapping their wings and taking to the air as well. “You know what to do.” Sirocco nodded, an energy gathering around their wings before flapping them forward to generate a mighty gale. Hurricane whipped the winds around the arena into a frenzy, unable to be avoided even by the aerodynamic fossil.

Another riddle awaited them, and this one was a bit more familiar. Oscar recalled the Tower challenge from long ago, and decided to use a similar solution to this conundrum. Oscar sent out his Dragonite, Ludicrous, and snapped his fingers. "Thunder that fucker...please." Ludicrous unleashed a barrage of lightning to toast its flying foe.

Meanwhile Oscar thought upon the word's of this room's puzzle master. He related rather well to the covetous dragon Rayquaza, and wondered if he should seek out its strength. Eh, probably not a good idea. It would most likely vaporize Oscar first.
