Hello everyone, DEREK HOFFMAN here to announce THE GREAT HOENN TREE HUNT taking place here in PETALBURG WOODS.

Petalburg City has always held a special place in my heart, and I hope it can for many of you here soon. As such, I want to find the best trees to decorate this place for everyone to enjoy. Nothing beats the smell of a freshly cut evergreen, am I right? Yes, I am. Now come on over and start hacking down these trees, people! <3

THE GAME

Similar to SWARMS on Hoenn, players will have the chance to roll one (1) time to determine the size of the tree they harvest. There are three different goals, being the LARGEST (100), SMALLEST (1) and PERFECT (50) size tree. The closest roll(s) to these numbers is the winner in the event the exact numbers are not hit.

Winners receive a "better" prize while all participants are implored to return to Petalburg on Christmas Day for a SPECIAL THANKS.

RULES: Only one (1) roll is allowed per player. Rolling does not have to be done on your first post. Though not advisable, you can join with multiple characters, but this might be addressed later.

THE SETTING

Quite some time before Christmas, trainers and civilians alike are asked to compete in a tree hunt to find the perfect size trees to decorate his city, house and office. A special event takes place on Christmas Day, which will be signaled by DEREK HOFFMAN.

Until then players are generally gathered in the city center after hauling back their tree, enjoying small talk, good food and other festivities until the big day. Remember, this is the setting timeline, and while started on Christmas Day does not mean you will be expected to post on or during the holiday. But it's cool if you can!

THE MORE THE MERRIER

Beyond those who roll winning numbers (or even roll at all), players can still join and fulfill their ADVENT PROMPTS by engaging in small talk or other such activities taking place within the city/woods.

Derek stands attentive at the path leading from the city towards Petalburg Woods, waving to any and all who are coming or going. Nobody has yet to bring back a tree for measuring, but seeing as the clock started ticking only five minutes ago? He shouldn't be very surprised, and yet somehow he is.

The coming cold is evident by the snowfall that began within the hour, providing the evergreens of Petalburg Woods with a fresh blanket of soft white that adds to the allure of these festive plants. "You guys hurry up now!" The gym leader calls towards the woods, but he expects nothing to come of it.

Today, Ettie was going to fetch a stick. To be specific, she was going to fetch a really, really big stick.

Anne was a little skeptical about the entire event - namely in regards to what sort of effect it might have on the woods at large. It was too easy for someone to accidentally cut down a tree that belonged to another pokemon, after all. Ettie, too, had thought about the troubles that'd come with such. But, the solution then was simple - they'd just pick one that wasn't someone's home, right?

However, as the pack departed into the woods and began looking at the different trees, they'd quickly realize that they... Had no clue, how to pick out the right tree for this. Did they want to pick out one of the big old ones? One of the easier-to-carry ones? How about picking from the ones that were really lush-colored, or the ones that had an interesting shape or pattern to them? Indecision truly was their greatest enemy here.

It didn't help that Ettie was one for getting distracted, either - be it following random trails left in the snow (which, sometimes ended up being the pack's own trail,) or getting sidetracked sharing berries with a pichu and its family. Duchess shared in similar troubles - chasing after the snowflakes that drifted down to try and catch them, or perking up at every little sound from a wild pokemon moving just beyond the pack's range of vision.

But, before long, the pack would find a tree that spoke to them. A strong and sturdy looking tree, with thick boughs and - after Ettie took the time to actually climb it and explore amongst its branches - no signs of any occupants. This tree was perfect! (At least, in their opinion.)

But now came the question... "... How bring back?" Ettie asked, cocking her head and glancing to Anne for the lycanroc's input.

Anne, in response, would simply sigh - they'd figure something out, surely.

Having let out his long list of baby pokemon to play in the woods, the IGGLYBUFF, ELEKID, RIOLU and TOXEL eventually come across the girl and her pack. It was the Riolu whose attention strayed from their holiday games, looking to them as they studied the tree. It seemed they weren't sure how to take it down...

No matter! The bipedal pup raced from the woods to it's trainer, Derek, who afforded his pal an axe. It seemed he wanted to compete himself? That's what the gym leader made of it anyway.

What he wouldn't know is that the Riolu raced back into the woods to present Ettie with an axe. If needed, the lively little pup was even ready to chop the tree down for them!

As the pack circled the tree, figuring out how to go about bringing it back to town... They'd be met with a helping hand - in the form of DEREK HOFFMAN 's little Riolu, who had an axe in his hands! At first, Ettie would accept the axe simply because it was a gift being offered to them - not so much that she recognized the significance of this odd object. It was hefty to say the least - she'd need to hold it with both hands to keep it steady. "Thanks, friend!" Ettie chirped with a bright smile - setting the head of the axe on the ground to free up a hand, so that she could pat the Riolu on the head.

However, when she turned her gaze to properly regard the axe, she realized that she had very little clue what this was - besides that it looked like some form of tool or weapon. What was this again? What was she supposed to do with it..? She'd stare at it for a few moments, her expression somewhat vacant and confused as she tried to figure out the puzzle that she had been presented with...

... At least, until Princess approached - the Snubbull taking up the axe. Even though her comparatively smaller size made it slightly unwieldy to handle, her strength meant that she could swing the axe like a champ - hefting it over her shoulder with both paws as she slowly toddled over to the tree, and began chopping. They'd have this tree back at Petalburg in no time..!

christmas was a morales holiday favorite, and so it was no surprise that ollie would make the trek all the way down from evergrande to petalburg to get the best tree. back when he'd been dating PENELOPE LIVY, it had been tradition considering where she was from.

[break][break] with a big huff, he swings an axe on the biggest tree he could find (and feasibly fit into his apartment!) until it comes swinging down. he sends a quick text and picture to both Eva Morales and willow atkins with the results.

[break][break] as he walks over to get it measured, however, he notices a small girl Ettie. "heya! do you need —" he's about to say help, but it seems like she's got it all under control! "nice!"

[break][break] for the moment, he decides to walk over to DEREK HOFFMAN to greet him with a broad wave.

ollie morales 's approach and almost-offer for help would be met with a curious glance from Ettie - the young wildchild briefly tilting her head to regard the taller man and look him up and down out of intrigue. Her verdict: friend! (Disregarding the fact that just about everyone was friend-shaped to her.) And also tall! Or at least, definitely taller than herself. Would he be taller than Julia, too? How tall did other humans usually get, again...?

In any case, once she brought her thoughts back on track... She wasn't sure what he had been about to ask - but apparently something here had been positive! So, smiling, she'd nod to him - the young wildchild gesturing to indicate him and responding "Friend nice!" with a brief happy-wiggle and a light giggle.

Princess, meanwhile, certainly worked hard whenever she decided to put her mind to it. Bit by bit, she chopped through the trunk with surprising amounts of fervor - the look in the Snubbull's eyes intense and determined. This tree was but an obstacle - and like all obstacles that found themselves in her way, it would be overcome.

Thus, the evergreen would soon begin to tip - slowly but surely... Before hitting the ground, with a pretty satisfying thud, even for its smaller size.

This thud would make Ettie jump a little - clearly having been distracted by Oliver. But with her attentions now back on the task at hand, she'd smile brightly - running over to Princess' side. "Good Princess! Did good!" She'd praise, reaching down with both hands to pet the Snubbull and briefly squish her cheeks.

Princess, in response, would simply chuff and hum contentedly - lazily, as if she hadn't channeled her inner lumberjack just moments ago.

But, with the tree finally cut down, the pack would work to bring it back - ever so slowly but ever so surely, like the verdant iceberg that it was.

Honestly he could be figure skating right about now but the chance to cut down his own tree was too rich to pass up.

Coming in with his own axe Kazimir took his time to pick out the perfect tree for himself. The right height and the right amount of bushiness for maximum decoration space was a must on Christmas after all. For a while it seemed like he wouldn't find the right one and was ready to try and just chop down until he noticed a familiar face, maybe even two? "Yo fellas! Enjoying a good workout today are ya?" He called out to DEREK HOFFMAN and ollie morales while waving his large axe around like it weighed nothing as he almost ran up right to them like an excited Rockruff.

"You bet I am." Derek responds to ollie morales, who approaches him first. The large tree he brought in is impossible to miss. "And it seem you are too! Nice find."

Next to show up is Kazimir Wynter, who joins in on the small talk. "No, not me. I'll be leaving that to everyone else this year." He was still using the excuse that he was sore from the beating his body took up on Mt. Pyre. Truthfully, Derek just wanted to see others enjoy Petalburg Woods as much as he did.

But that reminded him there were others in the woods still. Like a little girl (Ettie), but she went in without an axe. She was just there to play or something, right?

DEREK HOFFMAN would not have to wait long for a response to that question - namely, for the sheer fact that a third tree was slowly (but surely) arriving, right on his riolu's tail. Coming up from the path into the woods, pushing through the snow like a sluggish Polar Express, Ettie and her pack would be pulling the tree along - having used some rope that the young wildchild had in her pack to help give them something they could grip onto, besides the needle-y boughs of the tree itself.

Seeing Derek off in the distance though, Ettie smiled brightly and waved - calling "Ettie-Pack has tree!" with a proud hue, happy to have finally managed to bring it back. Perking up in realization though, she'd take the axe back from Princess, before running up to Derek and his riolu - offering it back. "Thank you again!" She chirped to the little fighting-type all the whilst, grinning brightly.

Supplied with an axe for the occasion, the newbie Ranger set out into the woods on this cool night, jacket tightly buttoned as his Scorbunny, Lota, rode on his shoulders providing extra warmth. Toki was not used to cold like this, so it was a lot to adjust to as his boots crunched against the pure white of the snow beneath him. He huffed as misty air escaped from his lips with each breath. Still, he wanted to provide a nice tree for the holidays.

Lota suddenly jumped off his shoulders, snow hissing and melting away under his heated feet. He excitedly pointed towards a clearing and ran on ahead. Toki smiled and shook his head. He was a boundless bundle of energy. He followed along and saw a pretty good candidate for a tree. He placed his hand on it and walked around it, judging its width. He nodded and decided this would be the tree he brought back.

"Stand back Lota." He said as the Scorbunny acknowledged the command. Toki took a deep breath and began to swing. Chop! The wood splintered against the axe blade as Toki went to work. He was tireless, each chop more rhythmic than the last as the last year of physical conditioning helped with the labor intensive task.

In due time, the tree buckled and began to fall. "Timber!" Toki called out in case there was anyone around. With a loud crash, Toki went to work and stuck a small sign to the tree with his name on it. He didn't have the Pokemon strong enough to haul it themselves, so he figured he'd mark it and let an official group come by and haul it away. Lota bounced happily and jumped back onto Toki's shoulders. "Alright alright, let's head back and let them all know." He said. Toki smiled softly. His Pokemon's spirits were as pure and white as the snowfall, and he adored every single one of them.

They hadn't told their new roommate where they'd gone for the day, still unsure of what boundaries were in place between them seeing as they were near-strangers to each other.
