Perfectly synchronized, to the beat of the music, and not missing a single step, the Meowth dance, forming pairs hand-in-hand. They leave an empty spot at the very centre of the stage, a spotlight shining down upon it by the time no other than P.O.G Bank's CEO takes it as his rightful place...

CONTEST RULES

Please keep the following in mind when posting for this contest!

💝 The overall goal of the contest is for your character (and their pokémon) to share what they think of love based on their CONTEST CATEGORY OF CHOICE (as listed in your application).

💝 Each contestant will perform three times (THREE ROUNDS). There will be a MAIN TOPIC PER ROUND, and you will be expected to centre your performance around it.

💝 You can use ONE MOVE PER POKÉMON PER ROUND, for a total of two moves per round.
[break][break]
💝 For this contest, your Pokémon will have access to THEIR ENTIRE LEARNSET, as long as it's a move it can learn in some way in Generations VII, VIII, or IX. Keep in mind that moves introduced in Generation VII and onwards don't have Contest Categories.

💝 A point will be awarded if Pokémon moves are used to create CONTEST COMBINATIONS. Since you will have two Pokémon present instead of just one, combinations should begin and end in the same round. Please have a look at the LIST OF CONTEST COMBINATIONS AVAILABLE. Combinations from both Pokémon Contest and Contest Spectacular can apply.

💝 A point will be awarded if the COMBINATIONS USE MATCH YOUR CATEGORY OF CHOICE. In order for a combination to be considered as part of a category, at least one move in it must belong to it. For example, a combination of Play Nice (Cute) followed by Vital Throw (Cool) can be considered for both the Cute and Cool categories. The move's category will be considered as what the combination lists it as.

💝 Additional points will be awarded based on JUDGING. Each round will have at least two judges that will read each performance and rank them. Meaning that your choices in moves matter just as much as the actions taken by your character and pokémon.

💝 Please try to keep your post between 300 and 400 words. There is no posting order!

Keep in mind that this contest is meant to be beginner-friendly while making use of some fun in-game mechanics as homage to the contest system we know and love. As such, things like move appeal, jamming, and other effects do not matter!

"HELLOOOO HOENN!!" Callan yells out into the microphone, to raucous cheering. He had forgotten how good it had been to enter into the stage, the spottlight, the cheers, the screams, the rowdiness of being able to perform on stage. Three spotlights enshroud the first contestant and his Pokemon, Callan's Cinderace, Messi, and his Toxtricity, Bowie.

"Love's beginnings," Callan starts pausing as he speaks, the crowd silences. "Is about courage." Callan walks towards the side, narrating as a block of stone the size of a small house slowly lowered itself onto the stage, labeled INSECURITY. "Each of us, all of us," Callan begins, "Is a person fully aware of our own flaws. No matter how much others show admiration for you, or if you have no attention, the reality for all of us, is that we are all performers."

"Whether it's a first date, talking to someone at a bar, or even when you're a year into a relationship, or even in the marriage of an entire life. We carry that performance with us, but that's not who we really are." Callan pauses, as Messi takes center stage by the block. "But this performance is the shell that we hold within us to protect ourselves. It's our identity, it's the lies we tell ourselves, it's the character we keep, even when we desperately want others to accept us for who we are."

Messi charges his FOCUS ENERGY. Channeling his mind onto the gigantic block, a faint aura rolls across his body. He launches into the air, somersaulting as brilliant light enshrouds his leg with a MEGA KICK, as it hits dead center into the stone block, it shatters in thousands of pieces of stone in a brilliant explosion, only halted by the telekinetic poewrs of Callan's Psychic Pokemon serving as support for this event.

"Love begins when we have the courage to break past ourselves." Callan says, "It begins when we take off the shine of mystery surrounding us, and to let someone else accept you, your flaws, your weaknesses, and for them to see who you are." Callan grins, "Whether it's a friend you wanna ask out on a date, or someone you've been married to for years. Take a chance, and if it doesn't work out, you will find that someone for you." Callan raises a hand to the air. "THANK YOU!"

He moves to let the next contestant perform.

Her heart pounded against her ever tightening chest, tummy filled with the lightness sensation often classified as butterflies. She took in a deep heavy breath, attempting to calm her nervousness as the eager crowd cheered excitedly for the next performance to begin. This was the young woman’s first ever performance, let alone in Hoenn. This could make or break her dream career. No pressure, right?

The stage darkness, leaving the crowd to wonder what was going on. A spotlight lite up a young woman dressed in casual day to day cloths, sitting on a large rock with long and vibrate pink hair blowing gently in the breeze. Her back is partially to the crowd, brilliant sapphire orbs looking up at the ceiling. A hand raises, painted long nails pointed somewhere in the ceiling. “Look Rue,” the woman called out softly, yet loud enough for the crowd to hear, “That cloud looks like a heart. That’s so cool!” The sylveon sitting by her side on the ground next to the woman lets out a pleasant meow, ribbons shift in her expression of happiness.

Another spotlight pops up, illuminating an espeon who.. doesn’t seem right. The normal elegant and refined feline limbs further into the stage, large ears hung low and a soft painful meow escapes the feline. It looks beat up and injured, badly.

It was the sylveon who noticed the espeon, large eyes fell upon the feline. The sylveon lets out a meow, moving to the espeon. Eleanor turns to see what was going on, only for all the spotlights to fall upon the feline pair. The espeon let out longing pained filled meow, only to be hypnotized by the sudden CHARM casted by the sylveon as her ribbons reached out to gingerly touch the espeon. Trapped by her charms, the espeon leans in to softly rub his check against the sylveon. Long split TAIL WHIPped back and forth in delight, completely forgetting about his injuries in favor of the affection of a new love. The two cuddle each other, purring all the while.

At the edge of the spotlight, the pink haired trainer ‘awww’s at them. A brand grin spreads across her deep pink glossy lips, hands clasp together lifting to rest her tilted head against them. She swayed back and forth, watching the cute couple comfort each other. A true story, and a cute one at that.

Katherine's ghosts appear on the stage as the lights begin to dim slowly, offering a blank and dark canvas for the elite four to paint her performance on. Gengar emerges from below the floor on the right, whereas Froslass descends down from the ceiling elegantly, with an eerie softness to her movements and a slow pace.

It's only then that the Malevolent herself appears, whisked by a SHADOW FORCE to the centre of the stage.

Katherine most certainly dressed for this occasion. She wears a dark dress with a golden belt at her waist. Although the dress is tight around her body, it stops short of revealing too much skin-- clearly choosing a more family-friendly, safe outfit for the event.

The spotlights that trail after her and her pokemon are, too, weak in light. Fog creeps in from the sides of the stage as Katherine's own light grows ever so slightly stronger.

"TO LOVE IS TO SACRIFICE."
[break][break]
A light smile tugs at the corners of her lips, "It's a constant. From the first meeting... and until the last embers are snuffed... to love is to sacrifice."
[break][break]
A hand lifts to gesture at the Gengar just as her light dims slightly and his grows brighter, "It starts in that first stare," the ghost's eyes shine brilliantly with a scarlet glow, a MEAN LOOK flawlessly exchanged with its partner, Froslass.

"The first sacrifice is a PROMISE. An oath."
[break][break]
Red light envelopes both pokemon with its embrace until a tether is formed, linking the two - sealing one's destiny with the other's. The two ghosts begin to levitate closer to each other-- as though unable to stay apart.

"To cherish, to protect, to never stay apart... they're all different types of love. Each promise and oath taken is a different sacrifice."
[break][break]
The light begins to vanish slowly.
[break][break]
Each spotlight is turned off, but one thing remains visible and clear: the red tether between the two ghosts. It pulses like a beating heart, signifying the couple's everlasting promise.

"Once upon a time..."[break][break]

The story begins as all fairytales do. It's a simple way to begin a performance, but there's something inherently charming about the premise. And it fits the contest theme to a T, or so Luka thinks. After all, to tell a fairytale is to make a promise to their audience— a story, charm, magic, and the most important thing: love.[break][break]

Luka smiles out at the audience, clad in lilac and rose-pink sequins, and continues her introduction.[break][break]

"A good fairy lived in the forest."[break][break]

A soft spotlight shines on Luka's clefable, the aforementioned fairy glittering under the lights in a sparkling swirl of pink tulle. She prances about the stage, the very picture of springtime innocence— though if one were to look very closely they might notice that her shadow seems to stretch a little oddly in places, and that the faintest glimmer of red blinks within.[break][break]

"She spent her days there living happily among all her other friends. Under her protection, the forest was a peaceful place— safe from any harm or monsters that lurked in the dark woods beyond her little home. Until one day..."[break][break]

Luka's narration fades as the scene unfolds onstage. Her Clefable glides across the stage, pantomiming an idyllic pastural scene. She appears to be picking flowers as she begins to hum, and soon her singing joins the soft orchestral melody playing in the background. It's a sweet little melody, until a sudden harsh, discordant note interrupts it.[break][break]

Clefable's shadow continues to move and stretch, rising from the stage like a blob of dark ink. Red eyes blink open, and a toothy smile emerges as this new song clashes with the Clefable's gentle singing. It seems to foretell doom and disaster, a perish song in every sense of the word.[break][break]

"A wicked enchanter from the dark woods arrived, and placed a curse on the fairy's home! Though she begged him to lift the spell, the enchanter's heart was dark and could not be moved..."[break][break]

The rest of the scene is played out between Clefable and Gengar, with the latter cackling and refusing Clefable's plea to lift the curse. When he departs, melting back into shadow, she seems to despair...until a sudden burst of courage overtakes her.[break][break]

"But don't fear! The little fairy was determined to save her friends, and vowed to break the curse! After all, with the power of kindness, patience, and love, nothing is impossible! And so," Luka concludes with another smile, "Our story begins! [break][break]

"love... do you guys believe in love at first sight?"

a pair of eyes for a scary face for the audience, glowing of hues of red as they cut through the darkness.

"well, i don't. love begins after that."

dim lights slowly filter through from the edge of the stage, revealing the figures of both canid creatures looming over them. from the lighting shining from below, certain features were highlighted over others.

"there are two wolves inside of you. one that says you feeds your ego that they should be the one that approaches you first..."

the midday lycanroc approaches the audience, standing just by the edge of the platform. one can almost see the manifestation of might between the clamping of his fangs as he crunches the air, snapping them to show fierceness in his action.

"the other tells you to act on that feeling."

a spotlight shines over the midnight lycanroc as it puffs its chest, howling with pride as he represents the other side of the equation.

"the first step is the hardest. it's when that step is taken that you know that what you feel inside is genuine. that, my friends, is when you know love begins."

the other lycanroc joins the chorus soon after. several of the other dog pokemon in the audience start howling as well, prompting kyle to carry his midday lycanroc as he waves goodbye to the audience.

"alright, that's all. bye!"

he hurries off the stage, trying not to gain the ire of the audience for getting their pokemon to sing the song of their people.
