THE BORDER IS A MOUNTAINOUS PURGATORY OF MUTED SEPIA SMOKE. By floating islands, translucent bridges soar through the realm toward the heavens. Tall stone spires jut out from the spiritual mist. In the sky, the wisps of spirits can be seen heading toward their final destination before the afterlife...[break][break]

Curiously, there are four broken seals embedded in four mountains. Though Adrian Malcolm and YVELTAL may have seen their location upon their unceremonious entry, the spirit realm has shifted since their last visit, rendering each broken seal far apart from each other.

It feels as if the mist might swallow them whole if they don’t stick close together. Before they go far, he releases his chandelure, its FLAME BODY barely lighting a path ahead of them, washed in a eerie purple glow.[break][break]

This time it doesn’t take long at all for their hands to wind together. After the last time around, even Fern was left feeling shaky and a bit wary of returning. But he has questions—and still wants answers. They all must.[break][break]

Back again for more emotional torture. A pang of doubt rang through her head again. What was she doing here?

At least it was with the same group. She found some comfort in knowing she could at least trust these other to not fuck up. They did alright last time.

Stepping back into the mist was chilling. Goosebumps rose across her pale skin in waves. Her muscles tightened in discomfort and anticipation. She didn’t like, being here, not one bit. Something pulled them back, call it curiosity.

“We’re all idiots,” she grinned, stepping up behind and alongside the others. A black mist that contrasted The Border’s sepia danced at her feet. A familiar, chilling presence haunted it, “But here we are,” her arms extended outwards towards The Border as if it was their kingdom, “May as well make the most of it,” she took a step forward to lead them deeper into the unknown.

as they walk through the mountainous terrain, the air grows thick with tension. the pink smoke that hangs in the shadows of the spires is cold and clammy against his skin, lurking like shadows in the dark. it tickles jayden's nose as he breathes, but he doesn't stop walking.

the sound of a WATERFALL roars in the distance as they head closer towards where the unbroken seal was. he feels tempted to breakaway from the group, to tell them to go back; that he'll handle this himself. the way he always has. but he reminds them that he isn't just with anyone. he's with rockets, with his family.

[break][break] "we should still be on edge," he says, perhaps a little more roughly than intended. GRUDGE builds as he thinks about the remnant of that victini from before, wondering if it was anywhere nearby. he wondered if there was something worse on the horizon, just ready to drag them all for slaughter.

Marza hoped that this was worth it because the last thing she wanted to do was waste time in a place like this. She could have been doing a lot of other productive things. Not to say she was adventurous in her own way, she just hated spirits and ghosts and places that fucked with her head. Anything she couldn't fight with her fists. Maybe that made her a simple bitch, but this place seemed to enjoy fucking with their heads and she didn't fucking appreciate that.

Not to mention the ungodly, eerie glow that illuminated their shadows along the rocky wall in long lanky slivers, lumbering beside them as they walked before vanishing in a single stride. One second there and then gone. "Uhhhhh... did anyone else see that?" She droned, ignoring the shiver that ran down her spine. She had never realized before how innate and comfortable a shadow might be, until it was absent. Shrinking up like it had decided that it no longer appreciated her company. Maybe it was running away from the danger that seemed to be looming ahead of them, or waiting to return with a vengeance.

Idiots together? The comment made the Beast frown. There was some saying about tings being better with friends, but she wasn’t convinced that was true. Three other people slowed her down, made it harder to be stealthy. She likely stood more of a chance on her own than with these three fellow fools.

As a matter of fact, Lex did catch the flicker of ’s shadow disappear. She paused behind her fellow Beast, her own chest starting to feel heavy with unease, “Yes,” she grumbled with uncertainty, watching her ow shadow flex unnaturally. It was a moment later that the curvy bodice reflecting her outline darted off. Naturally, Lex was in quick pursuit.

"I saw it too," he says a bit more slowly, though this time there is a natural curiosity in his gaze that sets it alight. Something bright and easy that tears through the smog of his thoughts. Even with everything unnatural that existed between them, Jayden was still Jayden when it came to being enamored by the supernatural. He glances towards his own shadow, which seems full intact - for now. [break][break]

He blinks, stepping back as Lex leaps forward after her shadow. [break][break]

"After her!" he calls, breaking away from Fern and into a run after the Beast. [break][break]

His eyes widen, however, at the sight that greets them. Gritting his teeth, Jayden increases his sprint and leaps forward, grabbing the back of the Beast’s shirt before she slips out of the safety of the shadows.

Lex took off and Marza could help but admire the pure bullshit audacity of it. She had no intention of following wherever the fuck her shadow went off too, which was frankly annoying to be shown up in unbridled idiocrasy. "Just great," She muttered, bringing up the rear. She released Kuru to scout behind them, no way in hell they were getting followed by shadow people.

Yet the danger lurked ahead of them. The army hadn't seemed to notice them from the shadows, which she was both thankful and bored by. Regardless of her dislike for ghosts, not fighting anything was beginning to make her antsy. Kuru flew in a frantic pattern then, seeming to sense something far worse.

She’s quick, agile, and certainly not incompetent. So when grabs her shirt to hold her back, he’s met with a hostile response. Her red hair whips around as she does, amber eyes ablaze with contempt and rage. An arm sweeps up to break his hold on her clothing. Her broad form leans forward, getting far too close to Jayden in a threatening stance, “Don’t you ever grab me again,” her voice low and husky, like a growl radiating from her throat. Good intentions or not, he had no right.

The confrontation lasted maybe a few seconds. And just like that, she’s spinning back around to perch on a jutted out rock to inspect the scene in front of them.

A ghostly army of specters fade in and out of the realm’s own persistent mist. Their humanoid shapes appear weary and apathetic, as if they had lost their way a long time ago and had been wandering around for eternity. Lex felt no pity for these souls. This was their fate. Whatever brought them to this place and to their subsequent demise was likely their own doing.

A low, rumbling groan echoed across The Borders. Goosebumps rose across the pale skin of Lex’s bare arms. The lumbering giant in the distance began to take a more clear shape as it marched towards the army of souls. Slowly, painfully slowly, and one by one, the apparitions stirred from their mindless march. A chorus of groans and shrieks crescendoed when the Golurk reached its prey. The behemoth ghost reached forward to snatch the ghostly figures that writhed in panic. They moved like molasses compared to the giant. Once a ghost fell victim to the Golurk’s grasp, a piercing shriek of agony would split across the realm as it was impaled on a bloody spike protruding from the Golurk’s back.

“That’s fucked up,” she murmured mostly to herself.

As takes off after her own shadow, and follows suit, Fern falls back to cover their backs alongside . Not that they’ll do much heavy duty damage compared to the beast with far greater punch power, but even so. A sableye springs loose from her pokeball, and Sidhe is quick to dart away– sneaking through mist and shadow to search out viable exit routes if this doesn’t pan out well.[break][break]

And given their last trip there…it won’t.[break][break]

Paranoia is swallowed down, though–especially around Marza. The last thing they want is to betray the fact that they have their own misgivings about this place to the superstitious one. “How bad can it get?” Fern says to her instead, shrugging loosely with a grin that doesn’t quite reach their eyes.[break][break]

Famous last words.[break][break]

Too busy fixating on the dreary procession that appears from the gloom, they miss the spark of agitation that blooms between Lex and Jayden. “Looks like some party,” they mutter dryly. That is, of course, before the golurk thunders onto the scene.[break][break]

“I don’t know how it’s able to snatch up spirits like that, but I don’t think we should stick around to find out, either.”[break][break]

No, these are their famous last words. Because of course as they mouth clicks shut the gargantuan creature’s head swivels toward their group. Seeming to sense the presence of actual, tangible life forces in its domain.

[break][break] in fact - jayden had every right. not only was he her superior in rank as an admin, but he'd also been a beast himself before.

[break][break] he would grab her again, regardless of her wishes, if it meant saving their group from an unnecessary homicide. whether or not briarwood understood that was completely up to her.

[break][break] is the first to go, and it speaks volumes that he lets her.

[break][break] turning back to the interloping shadows, the admin's heart races as he realizes what they're facing: soulmarchers, the marching parades of warrior spirits. it was the first time that he'd ever seen them, especially this many at once. the feet of these ghostly figures did not grace the ground, and they seemed to move with an otherworldly grace that was both beautiful and terrifying.

[break][break] and then he saw it.

[break][break] the giant figure at the back of the procession. it's a golurk more massive than anything he'd ever seen, and much more menacing. its body is covered in armor and the sounds of sliding metal echo through the air as it stomps on the ground. bright red eyes lock onto jayden and the group.

[break][break] they only have a split second.

[break][break] "vritra!"

[break][break] the earring on his right ear gleams a bright white, as the shiny gengar MEGA-EVOLVES. immediately, he belches out a ferocious tundra of ice and sleet in the form of ICY WIND. the blizzard blasted forth, a relentless assault of swirling white that obliterated everything in its path. the wind howled like a pack of wolves, biting at any exposed skin with razor-sharp teeth.

[break][break] immediately, some of the warrior-spirits fell back or were encased in sheets of ice.

[break][break] but this only made the gargantuan golurk more enraged.

[break][break] the already furious golurk let out a deafening roar, becoming even more enraged as it unleashed a powerful NIGHTSHADE attack. a dark crimson beam, outlined in blue, erupted from hands with a terrifying force, aimed directly at the group. however, vritra was quick to react, holding back the golurk's assault with a NIGHTSHADE attack of his own.

[break][break] the two attacks collided with ferocious energy, each one a bundle of black beams lashing out at the other like a fierce sword fight in the midst of the blizzard. the clash of the NIGHTSHADE attacks created a spectacle of dark and otherworldly energy, illuminating the snowy terrain in an eerie glow.

[break][break] jayden's head snaps towards the group.

[break][break] "the cleansing tag! use it!"
