THE ULTRA CRATER IS A LARGE EXPANSE UNDERNEATH A YELLOW SKY. In between thick, almost impassable jungles, craters filled with green fields and alien plants lay. What appears to be metal pipe-like roots grow out the rock of crater walls. Geysers dot this alien landscape, occasionally expelling shrieking steam.[break][break]

The world is frequented by earthquakes, causing odd red monoliths of rock to quake throughout the realm. Oddly, the Ultra Thicket possesses very fertile soil. In the distance, a large mountainous expanse can be seen, though the range does not seem too high.

Returning from the gloomy corridor, Angelo steps back into the main chamber of the bunker with nothing to show for his exploration of the branching rooms but dust clinging to damp skin.

Seeking relief from the choking humidity on the surface, Angelo and the Graves brothers had decided to risk the large metal hatch they’d found in the bamboo jungle. Its leaf covered doors, ominously creaking after they’d finally wrenched it open, should’ve been sign enough of its state.

That last room he'd checked had caved in.

“The Megalopolans haven’t been back here in a long time,” the flashlight attached to the strap of his backpack sways when he raises an arm to swipe sweat off his brow. Stuffy from the heat and the cramped space. “Starting to look like a habit. There was somethin’ abandoned like this in the ultra deep sea, too.”

Still, at least it was cooler than outside…

Though Angelo addressed Gideon, Gunner was near enough to hear the report. The younger Graves brother surveyed the room, the first one they had entered upon dropping through the hatch. Its interior spoke to years, if not decades, of neglect and disrepair.[break][break]

"I guess there's nothing else to do here," he said, disappointment lacing his words. "I'm heading back topside."[break][break]

Gunner turned to the metal ladder that descended from the hatch and began to climb. A pillar of sunlight illuminated the way. Within moments, he emerged from the opening and pulled himself onto the jungle floor.[break][break]

His Zoroark, Mordred, padded over to greet him. The Pokémon had remained there to keep watch for any approaching Ultra Beasts. A shimmer in the air was his illusion, making it seem like nothing was amiss between the trees.[break][break]

Gunner scratched Mordred behind one ear in gratitude. "Thanks. You can take the illusion down now."

Where angelo vestri and Gunner Graves saw dust and desolation, the professor saw pearls of information. He was fascinated by what remnants had been left behind in the bunker.[break][break]

"Not geology, per se," Although GIDEON GRAVES did enjoy the subject. "But, anthropologically speaking, even small glimpses like these into Megalopolan life are interesting."[break][break]

He was still busy inspecting the rooms, partially unaware that the other two men were already ready to move on.[break][break]

"What were the Megalopolans running from, I wonder, for them to have these footholds in other realms, only to abandon them..." Gideon could have continued in his musings, but the creak! of the exit hatch indicated he needed to wrap up.[break][break]

Once Scribe, hit ROTOM, finished taking photographs, Gideon joined his companions at the surface.[break][break]

Suddenly, the sound of hissing steam and a familiar rumbling sound preceded a giant CELESTEELA flying through the sky overhead.[break][break]

"Look!" Gideon pointed out, though the creature was hard to miss.

[attr="class","wownewmain"]Hand gripping the ladder rung, Angelo pauses in his advance to cast a look over his shoulder at GIDEON GRAVES. Up above, light pouring into the underground room flickers when Gunner Graves scrambles out of the hatch.

“Always a chance that they abandoned it because they didn't need this place anymore. Maybe they found what they were lookin' for?”

He’d heard much on the aliens from skyler dross. Seen their marks left embedded in flesh and memory. Angelo isn’t convinced they were fleeing, so much as they were searching for something.

He doesn’t wait for more than a beat. Quietly eager to get out of the cramped box.

When Angelo emerges back on the surface of the Ultra Crater the suffocating humidity had faded, moonlight washing over the bamboo grove with a refreshing sigh.

“There they go again.”

Above them the moon creeps higher and higher, so bright. Tauntingly so. Celesteela have begun to flock to it like venomoth to the flame, their engine glow illuminating through the forest of stalks.

Angelo finds himself entranced, also.

“What to check it out?”

Gunner nodded, his eyes following the rising Celesteela as they flew toward the moon. Many seemed to launch from the same location.[break][break]

"Yeah. Maybe we can catch a ride," he said, his legs moving of their own accord. Mordred followed his trainer through the bamboo forest.[break][break]

Their last attempt at reaching the moon had failed, through no fault of their own. Their Pokémon simply could not reach the same heights as the Celesteela. Perhaps the unique, rocket-like propulsion of the Ultra Beast made the difference.[break][break]

Flitting movement caught Gunner's eye. He slowed, turning his head to follow it. A Kartana whizzed past, stopping just a few feet from his head. Though the Pokémon was already small in size, this one was smaller still, as if an adolescent.[break][break]

A second one joined it, pausing in its flight to regard the three men with curiosity.[break][break]

"That's strange," Gunner said to his companions, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Normally they attack right away."

angelo vestri made a good point. But what had they been searching for? Or better yet, since they abandoned this place, what did they find?[break][break]

Perhaps an answer did not lay below within the bunker but above in the illuminated sky.[break][break]

"Let's give it a go." There had to be a reason all the CELESTEELA were so attracted to the moon. Gideon wanted to find out what that reason was.[break][break]

Before they continued on, however, the flitting forms of two small creatures caused the group to pause.[break][break]

"Curious youngsters, perhaps?" Gideon suggested to Gunner Graves, observing the two KARTANA as they hovered nearby.[break][break]

They didn't appear aggressive, so the professor offered a friendly hand for the Ultra Beats to inspect. To his surprise, one of them had the courage to alight onto his finger.[break][break]

"Strange indeed..."

[attr="class","wownewmain"]Lips crack into a smile at Gunner, pleasantly surprised. “Now that’s a suggestion I can get behind.”

Together the men begin to walk beneath clouds of bamboo foliage, their destination the glow of engine fire cresting the distance. At least the rising of the moon brings about a fresh breeze, cool wind soothing skin that had grown sticky from time spent within the crater’s choking humidity.

Angelo strides ahead of the group, following the call of curiosity that would see him take him to the moon. High enough to pocket cosmic dust.

Only when he reaches the edge of the forest, its fringe overlooking a large clearing where the vegetation had been burned away by the fumes of the giants that occupy it, does he turn back.

Gunner Graves and GIDEON GRAVES have stopped a little ways behind, investigating a fluttering of white.

“Hey. What’ve you guys foun-”

Earth quakes. Branches snap. Engines roar and heat waves.

The Celesteela were departing.

Angelo glances back towards the moon seekers, desire pulling him sky high with them. “Bring them with you if they want to tag along. But our ride is leaving.”

Gunner looked up at Angelo's shout and at the rumble of the earth beneath his feet. The nearest Celesteela was launching. If they wanted to catch a ride, they had to move — now.[break][break]

"Coming!" Gunner yelled back. He snatched an empty Pokéball from his pocket and opened it. The young Kartana zipped inside.[break][break]

The younger Graves hurried toward Angelo. He was only halfway there when a furious rushing sound, similar to crinkling paper, filled the air. It was loud enough to compete against the roar of the Celesteela's engines.[break][break]

Gunner chanced a look over his shoulder. A swarm of Kartana raced toward them, weaving between the bamboo with incredible speed.[break][break]

"RUN!" he shouted to Gideon before bursting into a sprint toward the Celesteela.

"Be right there!" He called back to his companions, hearing the haste in angelo vestri's voice but wanting to steal a few moments more where he was.[break][break]

Gideon lingered behind after Gunner moved on, amused by the antics of the small KARTANA that had taken an interest in him. It fluttered around him now, circling in a curious dance. Soon enough the little creature consented to the elder Graves brother's Poké Ball as well, giving the siblings a matching set.[break][break]

With that done, the professor looked back, finding that the two men had almost crested the lip of this crater and were moving onto the next. I should hurry, Gideon thought to himself. He didn't realize how true that was until a swarm of KARTANA materialized from the bamboo behind him.[break][break]

Gunner Graves's exclamation prompted Gideon to sprint forward, but his feet would not carry him fast enough to prevent being overtaken. So, he released his GREAT TUSK and scrambled onto it's back, instructing it to HEADLONG RUSH up to where his companions were ahead of them.[break][break]

"Wait for me!"[break][break]

He made it just in time to grab ahold of a giant CELESTEELA before it launched them into the sky.

[attr="class","wownewmain"]Ahead of them the Celesteela begin to take to the skies in a roar of engine fire, their fumes burning his nose even from here. They take off one by one. Their ascension a countdown.

All the while, behind them a swarm of rustling paper slice through the forest like a school of Wishiwashi, tunnelling towards them.

Angelo grimaces as they sever thick bamboo trunks in their wake, decapitating the forest. He changed his mind. They should’ve left those weird, little paper creatures alone.

“Shit, who taught him how to run? Faster, Gideon!”

Gunner is, thankfully, right behind him as he reaches the closest Celesteela. With a jump, the pilot finds an appropriate ledge to hold onto for the ascension and turns around in time to help yank Gideon on. After all, his friend had a particularly good track record of getting himself separated in the middle of danger.

Once they’re all safely aboard, engines rumbling beneath their feet, Angelo's lips split into a wide grin. Adrenaline, victory and the bewildered rush of what they were doing thumping in his chest. “Hold on tight, I don’t think this thing comes with safety features!”

When they finally land, Angelo couldn’t care less that his muscles ache and his skin stings from enduring the cold, violently turbulent flight.

He’s on the fucking moon.

Thankfully, it was not Gunner's first time catching a ride on a Celesteela. He had a good idea of how to secure himself onto the Pokémon's body. With his free hand, he gripped Gideon's arm, keeping the elder Graves from slipping off.[break][break]

Glancing down, Gunner watched as the jungle fell away at an alarming pace. The curve of the world became visible, and soon, all that surrounded them was a dark sky filled with glittering stars.[break][break]

When the Celesteela touched down onto the surface of the moon, Gunner hopped off with a face full of awe. He knelt onto the rocky ground and touched the hard, cold surface. Some distance away, the majority of the Celesteela had gathered.[break][break]

"I don't understand," he said, his voice full of unnatural giddiness as a smile lit up his face. "How can we breathe? I guess it doesn't matter, though." He collapsed onto his back and spread his arms and legs wide. "We're on the moon, guys!"

Gideon's heart threatened to pound out of his chest. All the running and excitement had taken their physical toll, so he was thankful for his brother's protective hand on his arm. It steadied him as the CELESTEELA raced through the air.[break][break]

Their journey was exhilarating but short-lived. Soon enough the three men touched ground on a new world - a moon, of all things![break][break]

And Gunner Graves was right. It was indeed a strange place. A marvelous place! Rife with untold mysteries that begged to be discovered![break][break]

GIDEON GRAVES could spend his entire life here unraveling the moon's secrets. That sounded so, so lovely....[break][break]

"We're on the moon!" He echoed his brother, his voice uncharacteristically giddy, much like Gunner's. [break][break]

"Angelo, we did it! We're on the moon!" Here a fit of giggles erupted from the professor's throat as he, too, fell to the ground and began making moon-angels (a dusty derivative of the snow angel).

[attr="class","wownewmain"]Bending down to pluck a loose shard of rock from the ground, Angelo chuckles to himself as he pockets it. “We did. We made it.”

Joining in on the Graves brother’s giddy enthusiasm, Angelo too finds himself flopping down onto his back. All three reclined on the surface of the moon side by side, as if paradise had been found. Sunbathing beneath stars.

“Don’t question it too much, Gun. Just enjoy.”

And so, he does…

So wrapped up in the blissful gravity the moon held over him, Angelo didn’t realise that the celesteela had departed. Abandoning them on the grey rock to their own devices, who knows how long ago.

Eventually he sits up, scanning the empty space with a puzzled expression.

“Hey. Guys. I think we’ve been ditched.” As he hesitantly gets to his feet, patting moondust off his jacket sleeve, Angelo's gaze trails higher as if trying to spot them in the distance. Legs suddenly restless. “Think it's time we pushed off, too.”

To new worlds, also? Or home? Hm....
