the setting was fancy, but his look was not. everyone he sees, including himself, did not have any feature. he supposed it's a good thing, given that he doesn't have to contend for being in the spotlight, but at the same time, he's not sure if they're other people in the same predicament or empty husks that are meant to fill the room.

he doesn't care. this was his own dream, and he's going to make it about himself. an adventure in its own right, priam has already decided that he's going to make the best of it. this is his world now, and if anyone else dares to take his spotlight, then they better be ready to face steep competition.

it's such a bother that the banquet was empty and without food, but the hero will have to save the kingdom first before the celebration arrives. that was what the description of the place screams to him, at least.

the screen pops up. trigger fingers were almost responsible to sabotage his plans, but he has the foresight to stop and look first in unfamiliar environments. he makes his choice without a doubt.

The first time he wakes, in the darkness of his living room to the blue light of the tv screen in power-saver mode and the incessant buzz of the new message, all while sprawled on the couch—game controller fallen out of hand, Lam is far too disoriented to give much thought to the riddle that pops up. Bleary eyed, he stares at it tosses his phone down on the coffee table. Frankly, it takes all of his willpower to make it from point A of the living room to point B of his actual bed before passing out again after shuffling his partner back over to his own side of the bed.[break][break]

He’ll figure it out in the morning. (Something that of course doesn’t happen once the message erases itself.) Though the internet sleuths of Hoenn pose interesting theories that are way bigger-brained than he’d ever work out on his own—he can’t argue. It’s all sorts compelling.[break][break]

When the passes over and he wakes again, it is not to the light in his bedroom, or the coziness of his duvet (annoying.) The brightly lit room and it’s snubbull enthroned do well to sour his mood instantly, as do the unidentifiable avatars that sprout up around him. embody him, he notes with a cursory look at himself. It’s too early for this, for the question that pops up in front of him in blinking font, posturing a query he is simply too groggy to truly think much upon.[break][break]

He has half a mind to say yes, get me the heck outta here. It’s far less cozy than his mundanely domestic dreaming had been. Yes, it was cool and all going down an internet rabbit hole of theories and typed out debates on higher meaning but, like, sleep, man.[break][break]

The riddle had first appeared to Riley in a polaroid.

It had been a fairly simple landscape shot, one of his many for a class assignment, so... needless to say, he'd been a little shocked to see words burned into the side of a cliff, but only in the photo. Then, as quick as he could blink, the words were gone.

Now, Riley didn't like a secret he couldn't solve. He may have gone a little overboard trying to figure out, actually. But his gut told him that this was somehow linked to Rook and his... unfortunate personality change. He'd already been losing sleep over the Umbreon, so dedicating more time to solving this mystery had been a easy slope to stumble down. He'd raked his mind for a solution over and over, tried everything, but nothing seemed to work. Except... it couldn't be that simple, could it?

When Riley awoke in the strange dream world, he'd almost been irritated. But that quickly washed away, replaced with curiosity and anticipation. What fresh hell had he gotten into? When the pop-up had appeared, he hesitated. Only for a moment. But then he remembered Asta, who couldn't even stay in the same room as his partner thanks to the Umbreon's newfound possessiveness. And that was all the resolve he needed.

Riddles were a fine thing to place out there. People often overthought them when the solution was simple when not much thought was poured into it. But prior to the message, he noticed his ace pokemon had begun to act... different. It's ultimately not a concern of his when his Pangoro had begun to manifest darker energy that followed those strange yet vivid dreams he'd experienced. Some of those dreams maybe laced with truth, some laced with his imagination. But that's what dreams were all about right? Imagining things. But maybe the message is a way for him to thank whatever had caused his Pangoro to grow stronger. Because in the end, strength was all that really mattered. As he took in the scene on his screen, he let out a nose exhale at the sprite that was supposed to represent him. It was cute and amusing.

Schuyler was given the opportunity to back out of whatever this was. He shook his head as his thumb pressed on [ NO ].

June never was the 'smart' type. Riddles, puzzles, anything that required critical thinking skills-- forget it. Beyond her scope of skills. But this simple riddle, this simple task? Hand crafted for people like her. Others struggled to piece it together, but she solved it in about two minutes. Just wanted the damn Shadow Pokemon in the machine, right?

Once she 'loaded into the dream', she looked at her surroundings. Such a weird place, so unlike where she started last time. But maybe this was a hub world, or something. As long as she could go back, then nothing mattered. When the prompt came up, she answered in record time. Surely a new record, she slammed her hand onto the right.
