Somewhere, or with someone, she had heard the term 'infinity energy' before; perhaps it was with Thomas Benoit in one of their many conversations of the past and how it interwove into the present, or maybe on one of those fearmongering websites she shamelessly scrolled in the corner when the dewdrops formed on the leaves. It was a strange concept initially, setting the difference between the human body and the body of a mythical creature- and that poked more envy into her spine than anything else materialistically could.[break][break]

"If humans had all that infinity energy, we'd be unstoppable," she remarked, holding on as tight as she possibly could, ".. probably would lead our civilization to ruin, though.." Of course, there were already beasts that wished for that in their incomprehensible, legendaric thoughts. It was probably for the best that was not the case, or better yet, that avatars were quite a rare phenomenon. Or so she believed.[break][break]

The crackling of the whip, the start of the journey on the back of the Raikou, felt quite different than what she was used to- and all the more intense. Eyes shakily wandering to the sides, peering out at the endless expanse of colors when they could manage to shoot open, she wondered how Josh could handle this so much. Not if, but how, as she knew how passionate he was in the arts of pokemon riding. With a gift bestowed unto him like this, she knew he would not keep riding Swift to a minimum.[break][break]

"Aslan, Banaynay, did you guys hear that? Better keep up~!"[break][break]

After getting over the initial fear, everything just seemed so fun- almost allowing her to forget all the pain, all the toxicity, that existed in the folds of the world and its trees. She laughed in exhilaration as they continued, watching the colors stretch and mend at an ethereal speed. The Tropius was a blur in the back, flapping its leaf wings the best it could, yet keeping up to no avail.[break][break]

"Are you an avatar, then?" She asked into his ear, curious- but ultimately hoping that would not be the case.

Josh had become familiar with Infinity Energy from making friends with so many Avatars from within the League. He became more so when Twilight, his Absol, started to Mega Evolve again after locating a replacement Absolite alongside Isaac Merlo and Matt Vice so long ago. And now, Infinity Energy flowed through him directly when he donned his Sygna Suit.

Josh was part human, part Manectric, and part Pyroar.

Before the Champion answered any of Desiree's questions, he squeezed the ashen Beast's sides tightly. With a thunderous roar, giant electrical arcs flew from Swift's paws, he was flooring it, his strides powerful and frequent. With every flex of the tiger's back, it felt like the riders were floating in midair and falling, only to be caught by the natural thundercloud saddle on the way up. The wind sounded like a crashing tornado as Aslan came and went in a flourish of golds and reds. What a ride!

With a corner coming, Josh loosed his hold on the Beast. While the Raikou didn't exactly slam on the brakes, slowing down from such a disorienting pace may have felt like it. Swift gave the Tropius and Pyroar a chance to catch up while the rider at last answered Desiree's question.

"To my knowledge, I am not an Avatar," Josh answered. "My past self wished it above all else. But after seeing the absolute control some Patrons have over their Avatars... I'm not so sure I want to be anymore."

Laughing in the moment, releasing all the pain and fear she kept inside fleetingly upon the back of the thunderous beast, was just as freeing as the breath of fresh air that came with their halt. Upon the short break and the answering of her curiosity, the Tropius huffed and landed beside the two, doing a whimsical little dance with its hooves in delight that they had covered so much distance in such little time. Even if, in the end, it took so much effort to keep up with the blur.[break][break]

"Oh, thank goodness," she said softly, taking a deep breath, ".. I hadn't known of such a thing before I moved here.. though I'm sure I would have chased and chased too in my teenage years."[break][break]

The addictive feeling surely would have gone hand in hand with her addictive personality. At least, back when she had been so naive to think such possibilities only existed in the anime she and her sisters used to binge. It was things like those that made her hold onto such a bubblegum pink aesthetic while the grim veil of her mind prospered- she loved to feel magical in the mundane, and her fairies helped with that tremendously.[break][break]

In the eye of the cosmos, however, those feelings became black and white. "They say it's addictive.. and the stories seem to always end with pain, in some form or another. I struggle with trusting legendaries as a whole," she said, twirling a braid in her grasp, ".. I just don't want you to get hurt, or anyone else I care about."[break][break]

Removing a bottle of water at Banaynay's approach closer, she waterfalled some into the creature's maw shortly before taking her fill. Then, of course, offering it to Josh with a gesture forward.[break][break]

"We're getting close to our destination, yeah? ♡ I'll be meeting with one of the council in a few hours, we'll be sparring with the one they call Diancie."[break][break]

It felt like it would be a sin to keep an appointment like that waiting.

Josh's Shiny lion had at last caught up to the Raikou with their delivery in tow. "Neither did I," the Champion sheepishly added. "None of the reasons I like Raikou have anything to do with him being a legendary Pokémon. I... I just love big cat Pokémon. Especially ones that are fast. You ever felt one purr before? It's... intense and relaxing, at the same time, somehow." As if he were obliging Josh, Swift sounded a loud purr indistinguishable from a rumble of thunder, its vibrations like a strong massage to the lower body. One Desiree may have needed after the Beast's intense gallop.

Perhaps Swift was easier to trust by virtue of not being a "real" Raikou; merely a memory. "I know, Desiree. Laurence Anderson warned me. MATIAS SILPH warned me. So many others warned me. And yet... this is how much I love Raikou."

Josh was happy to take a big gulp of water from the bottle his coworker provided. "Thanks. Staying hydrated is really important, especially when riding fast. It's tough on the body. Fun, but still!" He paused to do a double-take at what the fairy-type specialist was up to. "You're... sparring with Diancie?" he asked. "Good luck with that. The League's legendary Pokémon are friendly enough, but they're no joke. I should take Swift up there once I understand him a little better."

As Fallarbor was barely on the horizon, Josh stopped Swift again. "We're gonna have to take different Pokémon the rest of the way," Josh said as he slid off the Beast and back onto his Zeraora. "Can't have Rocket finding out about Swift quite yet." Once Desiree had dismounted, the Champion drew the Sign with his RAINBOW FEATHER, and the Raikou's ashen form crumbled. Switching rides to the other electric cat, Josh was ready to complete their long trip. "Now, let's take care of this last mile!"

The sensation that came with the ashen beast's reverberation was soothing on her overly-exerted muscles; like a massage indeed, she could not help but laugh in joy with each passing second, as she had not expected such a feat to have been exhibited. Though, even in the lighthearted moments, her paranoid brain led her astray in the depths of her insides- she feared for Josh, being that those kinds of creatures truly were unpredictable. She wished that he would not become an avatar, as those individuals were often sought out for all the wrong reasons.[break][break]

"Their warnings were not in vain, I hope," she responded softly with a smile, ".. it's so cute, the love you have for all the creatures that have found their way into your life." Into the Mauville Racing Grounds, too- though she considered him and the gym to be one in the same, opportunity openers.[break][break]

Her excitement did not fade at his double take- if anything, it brought a bigger smile to manifest on her cheeks in knowing that such a thing would be unexpected for her to pursue. "I'm gonna need all the luck I can get~! ♡ And you most definitely should, I had no idea how many divines they had tucked behind their walls.. and with each battle, I'd think they get stronger and stronger." Ultimately, she wished to prove her mettle after so many failed attempts at quelling those kinds of beasts- especially Kyurem. A perk within a perk, if it truly did do something good for the creatures allied with the league, too.[break][break]

"Smart," she nodded. In a world like this one, she would likely keep a creature like that tucked away with the rest of her secrets as well- becoming a target to those kinds of people was not ideal. With a quick dismount and a wave to the Raikou as it had departed, she pulled herself up on her Tropius and gave it a soft pat on the neck. "Let's!"[break][break]

And soon enough, the eggs were brought to their destination. If only all the other moments in Hoenn felt this peaceful, this fresh- untouched by malice and grief. It was moments like these that made her feel like the world of love could still exist.. and she craved it more than anything.
