Their retinue had been selected by Admin Bee, and though she was fond of BARNABY FINCH in most things, his fondness for Head Scientist Naomi Sato irked and irritated her as they made their way across the sand.[break][break]

Her resentment simmered off her in waves, rippling in the heat as she tied back her long blonde hair with a slight scoff.[break][break]

"Keep up," she added, tossing a glare towards the newer recruit -- the one whose name still escaped her. Razz? Reese? She couldn't recall.[break][break]

Rhys could comfortably say he hadn't had much experience in the desert, and equally comfortably say that after only a short time traversing the sands he'd be more than amenable to never having to stomp across the scorching sands again. While he had been excited to join Naomi Sato outside the laboratories for - well, for the first time he could recall - the prospect of not making an absolute ass of himself in front of both an admin and an underboss was a daunting one. He'd never so much as seen them before this expedition, and based on the blonde woman's mood souring the very air around her, he wasn't entirely certain that this was a better position, operationally, for him to be in.

That is, he'd wanted to be noticed, just perhaps in more agreeable circumstances.

Nonetheless, he carried on, his satchel slung across his back and a carefully-schooled neutral expression shaping his features in a way that he hoped didn't betray his complete misery at the effort of crossing the desert, the sweat beading his brow, and the fact that his clothes were already starting to stick uncomfortably in the wrong places.

"Keeping up, ma'am!" he offered smartly - and he was. While his enthusiasm may not have been at one hundred percent, there was something to be said for having long legs when it came to treks to the middle of nowhere.

Nomi was, admittedly, distracted.[break][break]
Mind preoccupied with thoughts of war - and, subsequently, all of the work she still needed to do to ensure Hoenn's survival against the DRK Triad's inevitable invasion - she was perfectly happy to let Admin Bee lead their little mission into the desert. All she really cared about was discovering something that could aid her agenda, and who better to guide them than the trusted Admin?[break][break]
She and oscar clayton had begun an intensive study of Dynergy and it was proving to be quite useful indeed: what new aspect of it could they discover here?[break][break]
Elisabeth Fiorelli's presence was not necessarily unwelcome, despite her harsh treatment of Nomi's newest apprentice, Rhys Collins. It was, perhaps, a way for Rhys to toughen up a bit. The man was intelligent and clever, but it never hurt to get experience out in the field, working alongside some of Rocket's upper brass. Nomi was pleased to have him along, and eager to see what he might accomplish.[break][break]

Something shifted on the horizon, the haze of sandy skies obscuring it just enough to make her wonder...was it a cliffside or the COLOSSI they were supposedly looking for...[break][break]

"We'll need to be aggressive enough to take down its barrier," she said, turning to see what the others were doing.[break][break]

Maybe Naomi Sato would have some insight on that front, as energy seemed to be her thing these days. With any luck, Rhys Collins would prove competent on the field; if not, this was a less-than-optimal time to train a lower-ranked Rocket. How bothersome. "Don't let up."[break][break]

Rhys pulled to a stop as the massive Bronzong erupted from the sands, blinking in consternation. He'd heard about the Dynamax phenomenon, but if this was anything like that, the reports did absolutely not do the real thing any justice.

He released his own Typhlosion alongside Elisabeth Fiorelli, internally pleased that his choice aligned with hers. That had to be good for something, he supposed. "Don't let up?" he inquired, sizing up the gargantuan bell. "At least it's making itself an easy target..."

Without waiting for direction, his pokemon launched herself forward in a flame-wreathed FLARE BLITZ, slamming against the enemy's barrier with a sound like crunching glass. He had no idea how even four of them could take on a creature this size, but he'd be damned if he was going to be the one caught coming up short.

As the massive BRONZONG revealed itself, sand falling from it steel grooves in waves of grit and stone, the admin felt as if he could practically drink in the delicious power emanating from its DYNAMAXED body.[break][break]

"Keep up the flames!" Adding more heat to this infernal place wasn't exactly comfortable, but it would prove useful in melting through the colossus' barrier. [break][break]

In that vein, Barnaby released his own TYPHLOSION, but instead of attacking he instructed her to empower her allies' attacks with SUNNY DAY.[break][break]

It was becoming rather commonplace to find gigantic versions of Pokemon roaming the wilds. Nomi hardly batted an eyelash as the skyscraper-sized Bronzong came into view. She watched as her companions each released a Typhlosion, instantly approving of the intended battle tactic: FIRE would certainly be a strong bet against a STEEL type.[break][break]
But Bronzong were not only made of metal. They had PSYCHIC typing too. Which meant Nomi had the perfect Pokemon to address both of the Dynamaxed behemoth's abilities.[break][break]
"Pepper! Attack with all of your power!"[break][break]
The Hisuian Typhlosion appeared, his mane of ghostly fire glowing a soft pinkish orange. He opened his maw and released a FIRE BLAST directly at the titan's shielded body.[break][break]

The combined fiery might of their attacks caused the barrier to shimmer, and seizing an opening, she mirrored his attack with her own. A second FLARE BLITZ pummeled the massive Bronzong, illuminated by the SUNNY DAY that BARNABY FINCH had summoned overhead.[break][break]

Standing in a semi-circle around the Bronzong, all four Typhlosions appeared ready to meet its attack head-on.[break][break]

"Target its arms," she ordered no one in particular as she pointed, noting how they'd begun to move with concerning purpose.[break][break]

Certainly the confidence and precision of the more experienced Rocket leadership was inspiring; if one learned by doing, Rhys was undergoing a crash course.

It wasn't a fight for survival, or a battle against some metal-plated kaiju. It was simply a problem to be solved, and they had the calculations.

His relief at the dispersal of the barrier was quickly replaced by concern as the massive pokemon readied itself for an attack. With a yell, he directed his Typhlosion: "Keep its arms down! Don't let it get momentum for a slam!"

The pokemon responded with a fiery roar, an ERUPTION bursting forth to slam twin pillars of liquid flame into the Bronzong's appendage-like slats.
