WHEN YOU ENTER THE FIRST FLOOR, a dojo student greets you. the tower is grand, smelling of incense and wood. sunlight seeps in through the paper paneling and windows high above. before you can leave the genkan, they politely remind you to take off your shoes and to place them in the cubbies to the right side.[break][break]

ahead, nothing seems to await the party; however, pokeballs are littered all over the floor. the dojo student claps his hands together, "WELCOME TO YOUR FIRST CHALLENGE! YOU GOTTA HEAD TO THE NEXT FLOOR- BUT IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT THAN YOU THINK, HEHE!" he huffs, "GOOD LUCK!"[break][break]

he guides you all onto the floor and waits for you all to pick your pokemon. a rotomi is stationed to the left, should you require it. as soon as you all summon your pokemon, they are ensnared by the hidden galarian stunfisk as if they were in bear traps. all of your pokemon are under the effect of BIND.[break][break][break]

[attr="class","illie i"]she steps into the room first, tugging at the belt of the dojo uniform repeatedly. a nervous tick, one that only causes mild discomfort as the belt constricts and then loosens only to repeat the cycle all over again. it feels a little odd to be in such an outfit, hair not yet tied up with shoes abandoned by the door. oh well.

a swift twist of her hands later and her hair is pulled into a signature ponytail. as if she's saying let's kick this challenge in the ass. except, not really... the moment she releases a pokemon, the floor shifts.

"shit," she hisses. her head turns, eyes darting to find those behind her. "there's... bear traps?" wait, no. that's not a bear trap. those are actual pokemon. her galarian corsola stares down at the stunfisk scattered across the floor, confused and a little curious. try as they might, however, they'll find that their BIND does little to ensnare her pokemon. huh, it had been a quick decision to bring her newest along but perhaps it paid off? the ghost type simply steps over the stunfisk, mindful of their faces.

if the tower could display text during this floor, the little bubble that would pop up would read as follows: IT DOESN'T SEEM TO EFFECT THE CORSOLA. sometimes it pays to have no soul.

She had been invited to join Illeana on an expedition of sorts. They'd been instructed to wear a formal dojo outfit and to abandon their shoes for the sake of respect. For the better part of a moment, Stormy is busy adjusting her outfit, tugging her stupidly long hair into a ponytail. She's kept one eye on her adorably anxious friend, following the woman into the open the moment her belt is cinched properly. Though she promptly sets to work on ensuring Illie's is proper too - given how much of a fuss she's having over it.[break][break]

"Here, hold still."[break][break]

Stormy tugs Illie closer, an affectionate smirk spread across her face. She ties off the woman's belt before giving her hand a squeeze. Of course, their moment of doting is short-lived, considering the moment Illeana releases a Pokemon a whole nest of Galarian Dunsparce snap closed.[break][break]

It ensnares the Donphan she's brought along. The trumpeting noise of surprise is unmistakable as the steel jaws wrap around her leg. But the panic only lasts so long when she makes eye contact with her trainer. Concern creases her brow as she takes a step forward, only to side-step in surprise as another bear trap snaps closed too close to her leg.[break][break]

"Rapid spin, Donphan. Get rid of them. You can do this, don't be afraid!"[break][break]

At the command, the Donphan tucks herself closed and rapidly spins, shirking her tether and effectively eliminating any other trap near her.

[attr="class","devonpost"]alexander feels comfortable in the formal dojo outfit. he experiences little to no issues with his, and he's keen on helping the others with theirs. but it seems as though he's far too late. stormy helps illeana with hers and their interaction, no matter how short-lived, is interesting.

but alexander has little time to dwell on it. traps spring into action the moment all their pokemon are out on the field and though the BIND would not have affected ekka anyways, it is amusing to watch the stunfisk attempt and fail. the RAPID SPIN from donphan knocks them away, effectively clearing the traps.

"good thinking, stormy."

a warm smile is offered. though it is only just one move, he suspects she's only grown as a trainer since their last battle. she must have, considering her position as an elite four.

Francie had somehow found herself amidst literal past champions, and the elite four, and the great and amazing plus beautiful Illeana... oh geez, she kinda felt sick.

It was a good thing that she'd managed to get that gift from her friend, the gym leader of Lumiose City over in Kalos. If only because this challenge that was set before them really would have failed in epic proportions otherwise. She saw the others getting trapped and picked off her new addition to her team, her new gem, Wilbur the excadrill.

Without much hesitation, she tosses him out and gives a bright grin, even though the excadrill immediately glares down at the thing that put him in a bind. His face read, 'wtf dude.'

"C'mon, get outta there!"

With Francie's sweet voice of encouragement, the excadrill burrows his body in and uses rapid spin to get out of the binds and across to the other side of the room.

Although her excadrill looked super cool in her opinion there's so much tension even that rapid spin couldn't clear it. She awkwardly continues forward, deciding that maybe she should just, erm, let things, uh, do whatever... oh boy what did she get herself into?!

[attr="class","illie i"]a vibrant flush coats the skin of her cheeks, stormy's doting precious and touching. her smile is bright, affectionate, hand returning the squeeze for a moment. "thank you," she giggles and then she's stepping away, gaze darting to alex for a moment before turning on her heels to follow after francie. there's a little extra speed in her step, as if the tension in the room is palpable at this point. her corsola shuffles along at her ankles and soon they're stepping up into a wooden staircase and climbing to the second floor.

her first movement lies in using the rotomi to switch pokemon once they're fully ushered into the next room. her galarian corsola is returned and swapped out, a kingdra soon taking the ghost type's place. there's a pool here and pools mean some sort of water task and while she's confident in her pokemon, something tells her that her corsola's lack of water type moves would only hinder her.

kingdra joins the pool within moments, staring at his trainer with a soft huff. he wanted some deep sea adventure, not a kiddie pool. rude. her smile shifts into an apologetic one before she's drifting closer to the water's edge. a hand brushes against the seahorse and then, their attention is drawn away. the challenge begins with a splash and a DIVE. her kingdra stares after the gorebyss and there comes a time where illeana realizes he's waiting for something. right, commands. duh. totally a trainer. definitely.

"whirlpool," she murmurs, her hand dipping into the water and retreating with wet fingers and a cherry blossom. as kingdra shifts toward the center of the pool, she carefully tucks the flower behind one ear and returns to the group, settling in beside alex. a moment later, currents begin to form, water swirling and coiling. WHIRLPOOL pulls the water into the center of the pool, a twister of rushing water and cherry blossoms with the gorebyss held captive in the center of it. despite diving to the depths, it can't escape the vortex created. instead, it comes under the first attack of this floor, unable to do much else besides succumb to the lashing of water.

Dread trickles down to her fingertips, numbing them, as Alexander's praise breaks the silence. [break][break]

Donphan's rapid spin comes to an end. She gets to her feet and trumpets her victory, but Stormy doesn't respond because she's malfunctioning. Tension builds and she finds herself still and mechanical as she glances back at the man. [break][break]

Nothing comes out in response, however, and she merely watches Illeana leave her behind to climb the stairs. Rather than follow as she normally would, she waits for Francie instead - the other odd one out in this group. Suddenly, Stormy had become the third wheel in a situation she couldn't wrap her head around.[break][break]

But at least they'd all successfully made it past the first floor.[break][break]

She takes the steps to the second floor just to feel water tickle her toes. Dread seeps into her limbs again and her breath catches as she stares out at the pool they'd have to cross.[break][break]

Their next challenge is to attack the Pokemon in the middle of a DIVE, and she returns Donphan in exchange for a Kingdra to match Illeana's. The seahorse Pokemon settles in next to Illeana and her Kingdra, but Stormy refrains from joining them, both because of her own reluctance and because she was less than willing to step into the water. [break][break]

"Whirlpool as well, Kingdra."[break][break]

Another vortex of powerful waves rattles the Gorebyss despite the depth of its dive. In the process, however, Stormy feels herself being tugged deeper into the pool herself as a result of two powerful moves. Water splashes up her face and drenches her and she finds herself gasping and fighting the current.

[attr="class","witness"]Being that it's none of her business, Francie had decdied not to focus on the tension in the rooms as they recalled their pokemon and left the room, going up the stairs and entering the second room.

Instead, she decided to focus on the fact that they needed to get these challenges out of the way. This one, in particular, was going to be an easy one for her, but she wanted to see what everybody else was going to due first.

For a moment, she contemplates pulling out a water type herself, but decides that it'd be better to play the safe route. She keeps herself near the stairs and moving her hand to pull out her midnight lycanroc, who never missed. A perk to his no guard ability.

But she's all to easily distracted by Stormy getting caught in the whirlpool. Hopefully, her move will interrupt the whirlpool enough. She's already making her way over to Stormy while calling her move.

"Lyonel, stone edge! Don't hit Stormy!"

With a great howl, the midnight lycanroc's eyes glow red and with the help of his ability, he can pinpoint that damn gorebyss and give a dead on hit! Rocks jut out from the bottom of the pool, crashing through boards and interrupting the whirl pool's flow.

As the stones emerge, Francie grabs onto Stormy and then onto the rock, gripping her tightly.

"Don't let go! The water's calming, you're gonna be okay!"

[attr="class","devonpost"]the first challenge is easily cleared but he expects nothing less of such capable trainers. a head scientist, an elite four, and two gym leaders. perhaps if all of them were present for the original navel rock tower things would have turned out differently. it's a thought that doesn't linger for long.

the second floor presents the second challenge and he's confident they'll clear this one just as easy. he is the last to make his attack but it's only because he's busy observing the others. when francie's STONE EDGE finds its mark, alexander turns to his doublade and nods a confirmation.

the ghost-type floats forward, blades coated in a dark energy that almost ripples with volatility. ekka slashes downward at the water and sends a NIGHT SLASH at the gorebyss. the attack will find connection because NO GUARD wills it to.

alexander glances at the cherry blossom tucked behind illeana's ear and smiles warmly at the sight. it suits her, he decides. his gaze doesn't linger for long, however, before he catches a glimpse of what's happening with the growing WHIRLPOOL. he wastes no time rushing forward.

placing one hand on the rock, alexander reaches out to grab on to stormy as well, ensuring she doesn't get swept away in the current. the water soon subsides, calming to a still, and he's helping her out with the help of francie.

"are you okay?"

WHEN YOU ENTER THE THIRD FLOOR, a dojo student beckons them further in. a flygon hovers in the center of the room, flapping its emerald wings. the dojo student quakes, as if a little nervous, "ARE YOU QUAKING IN YOUR BOOTS? BECAUSE I AM... SUSTAIN DAMAGE AND SURVIVE THE EARTH!"[break][break][break]

after you summon your pokemon, her flygon lands with a loud crash. the ground quakes as a FISSURE rushes toward every single one of your pokemon.[break][break][break]

[attr="class","witness"]as alex comes to help, francie's thankful and gives him a smile that says as much. with his help, they're able to lift stormy up and out of the water once everything calms. with a groan, francie takes only a few seconds to catch her breath before looking to the now open third floor.

maybe with this gesture, some tension will be released. francie's not totally sure if it will be, but damn if that wouldn't be nice. because the tension... phew boy. she felt like it'd be the final boss by the end of this thing.

francie then returns lyonel to his ball and starts her way back up to the third floor.

they are presented with a challenge of avoiding a fissure! immediately, francie makes her way to the rotomi, dragging stormy with her if holding her hand, and begins swiping and pulls out a wingull. the wingull she got in a duo wild thread nearly three years ago that wizz never thought in francie's entire life she'd actually fucking use.

she tosses out the wingull, who looks mildly confuse as he hovers around in the room and kaws, calling out like wingulls do, ignoring the fact that there's a giant fissure in the room because he's a flying type and the fissure has no effect.

[attr="class","illie i"]it all happens so fast she doesn't have a chance to react. not in the way the others do. they're already rushing to help, already coming to stormy's aid. and for the briefest of moments, she feels a soft sting of failure. it's forcefully shoved aside for panic that roots itself in her. she's scrambling toward the water, features twisting with fear. by the time she joins them, her best friend is already pulled from the water and out of harm's way. relief washes over her even as she steps closer, as she instantly reaches for her to all but tug her into an embrace.

"are you okay?" she murmurs, soft and worried. she didn't inhale too much water, did she? did any of the attacks hit her? oh god, is it her fault or the combined efforts of two whirlpools colliding? her grip tightens and then she's pulling away to scan over stormy's face, to see for her own eyes that the woman is, indeed, unharmed. "any injuries?"

while she wants to dote on her further, fuss just a little more, they don't have the time. they're already being ushered up to the next floor. and when she moves to climb the stairs this time, her hands seek stormy's as if there's a desperate need to keep her close, keep her safe.

her hand ends up retreating only to use the rotomi in the next room. and yet, even when it does, she tilts her head for stormy to join her. a soft smile rises to her features, even while swapping pokemon. a dragon for a dragon, it seems. her flygon is released to mix into the group of pokemon summoned and not even a moment later, another flygon drops to the ground. FISSURE ripples through the floor and her legs practically turn to jelly at the rumbling. adyta, however, doesn't seem phased. perhaps it's the wings or even LEVITATE that lends itself to her in this situation. the flapping of her own set of emerald wings is almost aggressive, keeping herself at an even altitude above the broken floor. flygon versus flygon ends in a stalemate, with both immune to ground-type attacks.

when illeana finally regains her balance, her smile is one of fondness, her gaze focused on her second dragon of the day.

Where one minute she's got her bare feet on solid ground, the next she's being sucked into the twin whirlpools as they thrash the previous challenge. Panic seizes her before she has a chance to properly save herself, and she's gasping as water splashes into her mouth and her robes grow water-logged and heavy.[break][break]

And then two hands reach for her and she reaches back, locking herself in as she pulls herself out of the water and stumbles to the side. She pulls the hand holding Alex's away to brush wet hair from her eyes, to rub the back of her neck.[break][break]

Francie continues to hold her hand, however, she doesn't think to pull away. [break][break]

Surprise and awkward tension contorts her face as Illie joins the scene, wrapping her up in a hug and smothering her in affectionate concern.[break][break]

"I'm--I'm fine. Illie, you're going to get your clothes wet."[break][break]

And then she's being dragged up to the next floor by the two women, unsure how to react or pull away or express her discomfort with everything that's going on. Water drips from her clothing and she's thoroughly uncomfortable being so cold and wet.[break][break]

But the next challenge is a FISSURE that rumbles under her feet and she's agitated. With the use of the rotomi, she swaps the Kingdra for her Altaria. The Pokemon lets out a shrill cry, her cottony wings lifting her above the FISSURE using her flying type immunity. The cracks in the earth don't harm her.[break][break]

When, or if given the chance, Stormy opts to pull her hands back to her side and work at wringing the water from her robes and her hair, an angry blush on her face.

[attr="class","devonpost"]alexander takes a step back and allows the scene to play out without his interference, understanding the tension in the air because he knows stormy well enough to see it in her expression. neither of them had informed him of their friendship, though his surprise is well-masked as he separates from the group to tend to the doublade.

just like last time, alexander is the last to enter the room. the sight of the flygon is telling and he knows of only one move capable of delivering such incredible damage. it's a move familiar to his flygon, too.

"hi, viphi."

alexander is gentle as he clings on to viphi as they simply hover in the air to avoid the powerful FISSURE that splits the room. viphi's LEVITATE is what keeps them safe as she lowers him onto one side of the room. he leans in close and scratches her neck, doting.

"yours is stronger, don't worry."
