It was time for yet another run at the defense course, and this time Remiel expected better from Faustus. The Ampharos, after all, had been gifted to him by his family. If it wanted to prove its worth on his team, then it would exceed expectations.

Sparing a glance at his new teammates, Remiel wondered whether they, too, would pull their own weight. One of them in particular, the lad that went by the name of Noah, seem quite physically fit. The other looked like a thug. And the last was someone he had met before, a young lad with a very memorable scar on his face.

Regardless of what he thought, however, the starting bell eventually rung and they were off. Faustus took the lead with a COTTON GUARD as Remiel followed closely behind, taking cover behind his Ampharos as they were pelted by a barrage of foam balls on both sides of the track.

Adrian didn't very much like losing, but he knew well enough when the odds were stacked against him. So while he couldn't be sure of whether or not they would triumph over the previous placement teams, he had at least set a bar for himself. Just be better than everyone else on the team.

Two were strangers to him, but noah faber he recognized, which gave him a small measure of confidence in their team's chances. The dude was pretty shredded for a little guy, and he'd recently become a Gym Leader. They had this in the bag.

Flash forward, and Adrian's realizing he's a little bent out of shape. He'd neglected his skateboard for the last few months, and it showed in how quickly his lungs began to beg for more air...

But there was no time for that as he pushed forward, watching as a volley of obstacles were lobbed at Remiel Calcifet . Incidentally he'd resorted to the same practical solution as them.

"Altaria, Cotton Guard." With the fanciful flitting of the cotton-winged bird dancing ahead of him, dulling the blows of the projectiles, he was able to make some much needed headway on the course.

noah mounts his bouffalant's back. as foam balls fly and padded rods fling out from walls, his pokemon swings its head. the dark afro deflects the projectiles while horns deflect jutting limbs.

thankfully, a COTTON GUARD prevents the bull from suffering— or knocking its rider off its back.

"how's everyone doing?!" noah shouts.

While personally he his body was starting to get tired from the multiple events going on his pokemon were still excited about all these games. After Russet has had a chance at this course it seemed Nylon wanted a chance. He bounced about the starting line seeming to be chanting. What who knew sadly she hasn't been with him long enough to understand too well but if he had to take a guess it was something along the lines of 'Sports! Sports! Sports!'[break][break]

Once they were told to get ready the cotton hair pokemon jumped onto her trainer's shoulder, the starting beep rang and she was quick to use Cotton Guard as Razz ran the course. Unlike his other pokemon he ran this with he could easily carry her as he ran himself while her cotton would protect him. He was only familiar with one person on the team, part of him surprised the people running this wouldn't just keep the teams the same, but he suppose it was best for meeting new people. He paused when one of the swinging balls blocked him as one of the new team members spoke up. [break][break]

"Could be better," he grumbled a reply before he kept going.

Their opening tactic hadn't quite gone as well as they could have hoped. The pair had made a good burst of initial progress, but the gap between Remiel and Faustus opened the former to being pelted by several blasts of foam. He nearly stumbled out of bounds as a result, but dashed forward in a burst of speed and caught up to his Ampharos as it summoned a final COTTON GUARD to thicken its fleece. "Push on!"

Not caring to admit his shortcoming so far, despite Noah's loud question, the black-haired royal instead focused on the next challenge ahead: a long bar of wood held ten feet aloft from the sand below, and above it a set of swinging foam pendulums. They could approach the challenge slowly and cautiously, waiting for each pendulum to swing past before taking a swift and cautious step beyond it, again and again. Or... Faustus could use his beefed-up defense to his advantage.

The pair decided on the latter. They needed to make up some time for their earlier blunder, after all. This time, however, he would stay close.

Adrian was doing alright until the other obstacles came up, but years of skateboarding kept him spry, and he was able to jump over a low sweeping pole as it snapped out from the course's walls.

Altaria continued to block the projectile obstacles usings its cotton physique until at last Adrian came to a pendulum. How am I supposed to...? But it seemed Altaria had already intuitively decided.

Using Cotton Guard once more, it would fly directly into the pendulum when it was just about to changed directions, its cotton guard padding the swinging construct and slowing it down. Adrian jumped over before Altaria was swung with the obstacle, flitting away in a bit of a flutter as it regained its composure. "Good work, Altaria."

But they weren't done just yet. What's next?

his bouffalant COTTON GUARDS too. fluff expands, becomes more robust, and as the course swells to life with more violence and ferocity, noah too, surges with focus and adrenaline.

the pendulums swing— but noah does not lose speed. "pushing!" he says in response to remiel— and as he comes close to razz, noah hollers, "it'll be fine, man!"

his bouffalant's hooves clap loudly against the path.

Seemed like some of the team was picking up the pace with some reinforced vigor, "Cotton Guard once more," he told Nylon who made the two of them puff up more, already he was feeling itchy but the cotton had helped with the projectiles. Though he could tell they weren't going to be much help against the on coming pendulums. Once more he paused followed the pattern for a moment before sliding across the problem, thankfully no need for the cotton armor this time around. For now just sticking back and making sure that he wasn't in the way of the Bouffalant. He used his own in the last game of this and he had made sure to be careful unlike the stranger now who just used theirs full out. Hopefully though that wouldn't slow them down.

Forcing their way through proved to be the right course of action in this case. The swinging pendulums of foam proved to be no match against Faustus' thickened fleece, bouncing off of the Ampharos as the pair made their way across the wooden bar with haste. When they finally reached the other side, the team hardly had enough time to examine their next challenge before diving in.

A field of ceiling fan-like propellors spun around in different directions just inches above the sand. Each were perfectly spaced as to avoid colliding with one another, and padded with foam to ensure no serious injury could come to a contestant beyond a sprained ankle. To traverse this field, it was clear some fancy footwork and agility was required. Or, on the other hand, a firm stance to resist being tripped over by the spinning fans.

Remiel and Faustus proceeded by leaping from open space to open space the moment they saw an opportunity. Each had to be perfectly timed.

Some sort of floor obstacle, which Adrian might've scoffed at if he was more confident in his pokemon. Could a three foot bird carry him over...? Turned out it absolutely could, just barely, and only for Adrian being lighter than he looked to be.

"Is this cheating...?" Adrian wasn't sure just how much they were allowed to rely on the pokemon, but he wasn't sure it outright broke any rules. Might've definitely broken the spirit of the contest, though, but sometimes you had to cut corners...

That's horrible life advice... Don't ever quote that.

noah dismounts his bouffalant. he allows his pokemon to move past the propellers without him, for the lack of weight would allow the pokemon to traverse the obstacles with ease. briefly, he's reminded of a shard of his childhood. kantonian school. track and field.

despite his dips into delinquency here and there, noah never truly disliked being a student.

and here he is now, jumping from spot to spot instead of through hoops.

Razz continued to follow the crowd from behind still trying to keep his steady pace. It was like the finish line was so close, but his body was already feeling the ache and the unhealthy choices of his time as a hermit. "You know you're lucky you're light," he jokes to Nylon who chuckles at him as they got to the propellers, the young ranger focusing on the timing as he jumped from one platform to the other. A small glance did go up at the guy with the Altaria who was floating over them, was that allowed?

Cheating? Remiel spared a very brief glance over his shoulder to see what this was all about. If that had been considered cheating, he was sure some form of acknowledgement would have been had. As things were, they proceeded on to the next part of the course without interruption. Though some on the team a bit smoother than others.

Regardless, the track ahead of them rose into a somewhat steep incline. Some artificial rocks had been embedded into the incline to grab onto if one of them slipped— or trip over, if one of them was careless. At the top of this incline a pair of Machoke had been given stacks of hay to throw down it. This resulted in a rather chaotic scene when the first of them stepped forward, being met with a landslide of thick haystacks that sometimes would hit the artificial rocks and fly into the sky or tear apart completely and like a golden storm.

"Light Screen!" Remiel ordered, using his Ampharos and its barrier as a bulkhead to hide behind as they trudged up the steep incline against the Machoke's efforts.

As they arrived at the next challenge, Adrian took a moment to let his pokemon catch its breath having lifted him across. Up above Machoke readied their haystacks, sitting atop an incline that reminded him of rock climbing machines as a kid.

"Well... that just looks terrible." That could easily hit someone's neck the wrong way, they couldn't possibly expect him to just take the hit like that... how to stop the Machoke, then, he thought.

"Altaria, Sing," and so his Altaria complied after steadying its breath, intoning a melody that eventually put one of the Machoke to sleep before he went to scale it, leaping and shimmying from one vantage to the next while avoiding the lone Machoke. Again though, it felt like cheating.
