Andrea’s offer of a hug tempted her. It would be nice, not only to get the comfort but to unload her burdens on Andrea. Yet, she couldn’t. She wouldn’t put something like that on her friend. These were her burdens to carry.

A quiet, but certain nod revealed the answer before her words left her mouth. “They did hurt me.” The very thought of it spurred old memories to resurface. She felt the phantom itch of the clawed-scars she had inflicted on herself afterward, rearing its ugly head. But she let the warm water soothe the fading scars on her arms.

Eyes gazed on the water surface, resting in contemplation for a moment as she buried the unpleasantness again. “It was part of the reason. But not the entire reason -” She stopped, considering how much she wanted to say.

“ - I suppose my departure really boils down to finally realizing that even as a member of the council, I was simply a pawn for the League to discard when I had outlived my usefulness.” Elinor knew there had been reasons and justifications, wisely dolled out to any who thought her worth saving. But all of that did not matter to her as the Victim. The League had shown what they thought her worth.

But one creature that would never abandon her was the Aggron she had leaned up against. It's tail moved in the water, gently wrapping around its trainer protectively, as if to let her know that she was safe, always.

She paused. Then looked toward Andrea, wondering if these words would make the light-hearted Dragon Enthusiast see her in a different light.

The Drampa had barely been caught before the next victim made itself known. A rustling bush nearby alerted both Elinor and Talonflame to the running Toedscool.

Elinor had to take a moment to consider. It wasn’t usually something she would catch, but maybe just this once. She gestured for the bird and it dove down, talons out, wings glinting with the sparks of fire falling off of it like gentle snow for moments before going out.

Not long after the loud thud of bird hitting its prey and pinning it to the ground alerted to the successful capture of its victim. Luckily for the Toedscool, fungi weren’t on the list of things this predatory bird wanted to eat, and so Elinor did not need to rush over there to throw her Pokéball.

From atop her perch she was given ample time to watch the riders alongside any oncoming threats, though admitted there was none of the later

She didn’t envy the ride that their passengers were given. She knew it was rough on the untrained, and it certainly would be rough even on her, though she had a bit of experience riding a variety of Pokemon by now, nothing compared to Josh of course.

But either way they all made it back to Littleroot safe and sound. Even her descent from high up would be without issues. It pleased her to see that there was still moments of peace to be found within the region, for she had expected this mission would have gone awry, and yet it did not.

Shaymin time (Social)

Elinor raised an eyebrow in surprise, when Evette spoke of a trade. Shaymin were rare Pokemon as far as she knew, so the idea that some might trade away their little friends wer surprising.

But she decided not to pursue that line further as Evette began to introduce herself. Elinor noted the pep that was suddenly to be found in their voice. “A Songstress?” Elinor repeated curiously. “What sort of songs do you make?” A basic question, but one that had to be asked.

Meanwhile Elinor’s Shaymin took a moment to catch its breath and regain some energy as it watched its fellow kin prance around ready to initiate. But the other did not initiate a game. It found this strange for a moment but then Shay decided to do it herself. It jumped forward gently booping the other Shaymin’s Snoot as it proclaimed in its Shaymin-tongue ‘you are it.’

“I am sure your words reached him in some form.” Elinor reassured the young Dragon Enthusiast. Though admittedly, the confused expression she noticed from Meatloaf could suggest otherwise.

But Elinor decided not to question it further.

And so in the comfort of the hot waters Andrea decided to turn the conversation to darker subjects.

Now, had this been some B-list Anime the very question might have caused a stronger reaction, maybe even a flashback back to the times of trauma. But now, bathed in comfort and in the company of people she knew would never hurt her, she merely took a deep calming breath and said.

“Sure I can talk about it?” The tone in her voice making it quite clear that it definitely wasn’t a comfortable topic to even approach.

Andrea’s question caught Elinor by surprise. She thought her statement had been quite clear.

“Oh I just meant I can’t grow complacent when competing against you otherwise you’ll definitely take the lead!” Elinor replied. Perhaps she had misspoken or the Dragon Enthusiast had thought there was some deeper meaning.

While it seemed her Flaming Eagle had scared away weaker Pokemon there were still Pokemon that were up for the challenge. A twister suddenly flew toward the flaming bird, engulfing it for a moment.

The bird was sent hurtling into the air until it regained control of its flight. And by then the Drampa was quick to set upon it in battle. But if it had thought the bird would be weak in a brawl, it would be sorely surprised.

The Talonflame lit ablaze and began to burn the Drampa with its fire. But the Drampa did not relent for a moment, in fact, it did not relent for so long that by the time it fell from the sky it was knocked out.

Luckily Elinor was quick to throw a ball after it, hoping to safe it from hitting the ground.

So fair their mission was a success. The people that needed saving was saved and brought over the river on Josh’s aquatic mounts alongside their equipment.

All was good. With the hard part over and done with they simply needed to transport the passengers back to civilization. An easy task. But even so, Elinor and her Metagross performed the work with the same professionalism as before.

Their watchful gaze kept an eye out for dangerous Pokemon lurking around. And luckily for all involved there seemed to be no such thing. Perhaps it was the presence of so many trained Pokemon that kept them from foolishly attacking. And honestly Elinor didn’t mind that one bit. It was nice with a bit of easy work.

There was surprisingly little she needed to know. Concerningly little. It almost made her fear that the Rangers here were being negligible in their duties. There was no way that there was THIS little happening here.

But she figured Lars wouldn’t be negligent in his duties. She supposed she would just have to wait and see. And so instead she chose to focus on the shocking revelation that Lars had turned to brewing.

“Well, I might just take you up on that offer!” Elinor smiled. But for now what little work there was to do, she had to do.

For all of Bel’s efforts his psychic powers could not deal with the heat of the crossing Pyroar. And so the bridge melted into the river at their crossing. And so they were caught on the other side of the river only able to watch as Josh and his cadre of Pokemon did what they did best.

But that didn’t mean Elinor could just sit back and do nothing. She had to be alert. “Bel, the chances are low. But still, should anything happen, be ready to catch them with your Psychic.” She instructed the Metagross upon which she sat.

The Metagross gave an acknowledging sound and readied itself.

Elinor’s gentle padding came to an end as she instead began to lean relaxed up against the Aggron. It’s warm steel body hot against her skin, but she did not mind, much like the creature she could move away if it got uncomfortable.

“I honestly can’t even begin to imagine it. But still, I am not surprised. I am sure Meatloaf knew that you would never truly replace him.” She spoke with certainty. Much like she prayed, Gron knew that no other Aggron could replace him.

Still, she let her hand brush up against his body once more, just to assure him. But the Aggron was too far gone in his own relaxation to notice.

Laurence Anderson hadn’t been lying when he said Verdanturf was a quiet Ranger district. Even for all of her efforts spent trying to find ways of engaging the few rangers stationed here she found it near impossible. She barely had enough paperwork as a Captain to keep herself occupied.

Honestly it was both a curse and a blessing. With all of this time on her hand she found herself able to take a very hands on approach with the Ranger work. And this was one such time. Someone had called in with what was believed to be a Caterpie nest having invaded an apartment complex.

And the truth of it became clear to her as she walked down the corridors adorned in her Ranger’s Uniform accompanied by a Flabebe.

“Seems like it.” Elinor spoke with a smile. “But I get the feeling I won’t have it for long.” She knew Andrea had plenty of skill enough to catch up if not surpass her.

Unfortunately it would not continue to be so. For it seemed the Pokemon decided to hide from the flaming falcon flying up high.

“I see them!” Elinor confirmed following Josh as best she could.

Josh took the lead quickly making a bridge with the help of an ICE BEAM from his Dewgong. Rivers were not eager to let such bridges stay for long. If Josh planned to use it as a way back they would have to secure it somehow.

Luckily Elinor didn’t even need to mention this to her Metagross as it took one look at the bridge and realized what the most likely outcome of its continuing without reinforcement was. And so, shinning a mild blue displaying its PSYCHIC prowess the Metagross reinforced the ice-bridge with its mental powers, making sure it would stay intact for as long as Josh needed it to.

“Sure, but that doesn’t mean they had to demote you THAT far down.” Admittedly, Elinor didn’t quite know how vindictive Miss Goode could be. Anyhow, what was done was done, no use in thinking too much about it. Sarcasm or not.

As Lars began to complain about the greedy Pokemon. Elinor moved to grab the little furry friend. “Oh she’s not usually like this. She must really like the Caramel.” The comment was followed by a tight hug to the furred-thief as it tried to wiggle its way out of her arms until at last it gave up with a discontent look on its face.

“Sounds almost idyllic. You better not have jinxed it now.” She spoke in jest. “I know you claim that this place is sleepy, but is there anything I ought to know or be aware of?” Surely there was discontented people or angry packs of Pokemon they had to deal with from time to time.
