Cold pulls around him, and ice crystals shimmer in the prince's hair. He touches a bang absently, watching the cold drip down before shaking his head free of them. He looks back at Badar on the summertime battle field turned into a winter storm; he looks as home as he did back in Circhester.

[break][break] His opponent's Delphox, however, seems unphased. It waves it's wand in the air, the flame shimmering.

[break][break] "That's cute," Artie calls over the roar of the wind. "Think I could buy one somewhere?" It doesn't strike Artie that some things just can't be bought.

[break][break] Meanwhile, the Sealeo slaps his flippers against the sand. A tremendous wave is erected in front of him, seemingly out of nowhere, looming threateningly over the Delphox for a second before it all comes crashing down.

It is a good thing that Lilycove - or Hoenn, for that matter - is nowhere near as cold as Circhester this time of the year. The coldness of Selena Desmarais 's voice carries with the seaside wind, but it does not land on the young man's ears. His smile is blithe and carefree as he takes her in response, returning to his spot several yards away from her to make room for the battle.

[break][break] “I hope you get to prove what you're really capable of.”

[break][break] "That's the plan," the blond laughs in response, blue gaze following curiously at the pokeball that she draws from her belt. She seems to take careful care in choosing her pokemon, which is not much of a surprise to Artie. She wouldn't have been a gym trainer without it, right? As she finally decides on one and releases it into the air, Artie is struck with a random memory of facing off against the kingdom's Maitre d'Armes for the first time.

[break][break] "Okay!" he grins, and then looks to Badar. "Here we go then. Badar, let's make it rain!"

[break][break] Of course, the command is a metaphor at best. The pokemon's body begins a dull glow as clouds darken in the sky above them, dropping snow and ice from the sky in a storm of hail and wind. Having grown up by snowy mountaintops all his life, the cold doesn't bother Artie in the slightest.

The face that @marcellus made at him, bottom lip pushed against the straw stubbornly against his lip, is hilarious. It is also adorable, and Artie has half a mind to capture it. In fact, he does.

[break][break] With his other hand, he is quick to snap a photo of the other just as Marcie drank the offending item and he laughed as he appraised the picture. He showed it back to the other, though careful to keep the phone a little high, just in case Marcie wanted to take it from his grip. "You're great at taking photos, you know, " he quips.

[break][break] Artie's brows pinch a bit with concern as the other coughs - it would have been awkward if he accidentally made the noble's son choke on bubble tea of all things. Definitely not the way he wanted to go. And plus, how was he supposed to explain such a thing to Dir Duhamel? Honestly not a conversation he wanted to have.

[break][break] The prince's expression is thoughtful as Marcie tells him why he's here, before his face brightens with glee. He aims to throw a arm around the other, perhaps leading him to a walk around the festivities. "That's great! We can play some games together," he says, as if he knows the first thing about festival games. Which he doesn't. At all.

[break][break] As expected, Artie is lofty in his next response. "What do you mean?" he says innocently. "I have no idea what you're talking about." His gaze, distracted, draws to his phone as he flicks through his photo album. Maybe if he posted the picture, Marcie wouldn't mind?

The blush that danced across the other's cheeks were admirable and it made Artie wonder how much more he could squeeze out of @derrick. That being said, this was not the time for that.

[break][break] Artie huffed slightly when the other denied his request, though he couldn't say he'd been completely surprised. It was something that he'd heard plenty of times from father, whenever he wanted to do something the easier way when the more logical option was still available. Still, you couldn't punish a man for trying, right?

[break][break] The flurry of pats shocked the blond as the other nearly assaulted him, and Artie couldn't help but cough. It wasn't that he was a particularly weak person, but he also wasn't one of such stable disposition that he could handle such an assault without being a little shocked! Back in Circhester, no one had ever touched him like this, without his permission, but then again, that was the entire reason he had left Circhester, right? To be surprised? To enjoy the complexities of Civilian life?

Apparently, Artie's joke had not been entirely off base. His eyes were drawn to the other's hands, as the blue-haired man began to talk about how he worked with machines.

[break][break] The blond's nose scrunched up slightly. He could never do such rough work, personally. Not that, of course, he was against it. It was just something that didn't really interest him. It seemed all too messy, and just extremely, not fun. Though, he was glad for subjects like @derrick here that he did work with them. Someone had to, and it certainly wasn't going to be him.

[break][break] "Funny," he quipped. "I would've never guessed."

[break][break] Still, he thought the guy would've been better suited to be the lead singer in a garage band.

[break][break] The conversation carried on, and Artie - as usually - was completely oblivious to the way that he stood out at the work site. As the other ground pokemon and workers milled about, it was only the blond who seemed to be wearing a clean dress-shirt and expensive shoes. Of course, this was not a fact that Artie paid attention to, since it was just normal to him.

[break][break] "You're from Galar?" The prince blinked, and if there was at all a moment of fear or hesitation in his eyes that the other might actually know him, it was brief. It was quickly stamped out as the other introduced himself and Artie grinned. "It's Artie. Or Finn, that's my middle name. Nice to meet you, Derrick."

[break][break] A pause, and he added. "You know, you're cute when you blush."

[break][break] Then a wink.

[break][break] Then, Artie's gaze traveled back towards the incline they had fallen down and then he heaved a big, dramatic sigh. "It's one thing going down, but another thing coming up. Wish there was a lift that could take you right up."

[break][break] He paused, and then his head turned back to @derrick. There was something thoughtful in his gaze. "Unless you want to carry me up?"

Had Artie meant his words? Had he meant the suggestive tone that unwittingly had gotten attached to them? Probably not. More likely, they were an impulse, like nearly everything that Artie tended to do, and he hadn't thought too quickly about it.

[break][break] It was a good thing, then, that his blue-haired companion didn't seem to understand the innuendo either, the words flying straight over his head. "Oh okay," he said, though his words didn't sound quite disappointed. In all actuality, Artie had absolutely no interest in entertaining the thoughts of someone who might be practiced with handcuffs. As far as he was concerned, that seemed to be the act of subordinates. "You just seemed like you knew. Maybe you're just good with your hands?" A laugh escaped him.

[break][break] One of the grunts gave a small groan as Artie stepped off his hand and around him, rocks crumbling beneath his Louis Vuitton shoes. His hands twisted behind his own back. "Oh? Skiing? Yeah," he said, reaching around his pocket to return Badar to his pokeball in a flash of light. Better to return the seal back to his pokeball, just in case he got into more trouble. Just before, the Sealeo had been bothering some Geodude who'd wandered a bit too close. "You get to do a lot of that in Circhester." His eyes twinkled as he turned back to look at @derrick. "You ever been?"

To be honest, it was sheer luck at all that Artie remembered her. Frankly, he rarely spent much time in his own head thinking of anyone other than himself, so names usually were lost on him. Especially when those names were attached to relatively unimportant people - you couldn't really blame him for forgetting.

[break][break] That being said, it wasn't like he could forget Lulu Flint . They were cousins! And while he may not have remembered a certain, other blond if he saw them, he and Sha-sha had been close enough in age that they'd been subjected to the same torture of private school together. Or probably more accurate, Sha-sha had been subjected to the torture of having the Circhester prince attend the same school that she did, once upon a time.

[break][break] She avoided his question, which was unsurprising, so he did the same. He lifted the plastic bag with his purchased goods up in the air for her to see. "Oh, you know, just shopping - wait." He gave a small, horrified gasp. Did she just say hair dye? Artie stepped forward, grabbing her arms. "Did you just say hair dye?"

There is no one on the beach for miles - at least no one important. So when Selena Desmarais shows up, her pink hair floating in the wind, the Circhester heir's immediately gravitate to hers. His face lights up with a glow as he waves her over broadly.

[break][break] "Hi there!" he greets, full of charm.

[break][break] Artie is well-versed in speaking to diplomats and aristocrats due to his upbringing, so there is no hesitation to his step or nervousness when he approaches her. He smiles blithely at her, seasalt blowing past through sandyblond hair, "My name is Arthur Finnian Vanderbilt," he says, with a slight courtesy. The Honedge at his side gives a slight gleam of light as the sunshine sparks against the metal. "Pleasure to meet your acquaintance."

[break][break] When he stands up again, he looks around at the seaside arena, before looking back at her. If he registers any animosity on her head due to events that were - in his opinion - beyond his control, he doesn't mention it. "Are we going to battle here? Or is there somewhere you might prefer?"

There were many things that Arthur Finnian Vanderbilt could claim to fame. First off, he was the first son and therefore heir to the Circhester throne. Secondly, he was a swordsman, having been taught the very, very important art of fencing from a young age. There were a lot of other skills as well, though all practically negligible - he was a prince, he was expected to have them. There were also, of course, more unfortunate claims to fame as well — he'd been the first member of royalty to vandalize Ms. Chambers' - his childhood tutor, for all intents and purposes - Torterra. Though perhaps vandalism was putting it a bit strongly. He'd been five, and the weapons of choice had been crayons had been one he'd stolen from his mother's study.

[break][break] To summarize, there were many things that Arthur Finnian Vanderbilt could claim, but perhaps smart ideas were not one of them.

[break][break] "I have to sign up?" he said, with a huff.

[break][break] The receptionist at the VANTAGE headquarters look flustered. Though it was hard to tell whether it was because she actually recognized Artie for who he was, or that he was simply a young, handsome man. She tucked a strand of cotton-candy pink hair behind her ear. "I'm sorry, sir. Gym policy is - "

[break][break] He placed a hand on his hip, where his trusty Honedge lay. "But there's no one challenging right now?"

[break][break] "Well, not right this instant, but - " The challenger, apparently, was running a tad late.

[break][break] "But the Gym leader's free? She's ready for a challenge, right?"

[break][break] "Yes, but, sir."

[break][break] "And you just said, all I need is my ID right? I have it right here." He flashed the glossy card at her, glittering with the royal emblem.

[break][break] "Yes, but - as you can see, there is already an appointment for - "

[break][break] "Lemme see." Without a regard for the woman's personal space, he leaned down and grabbed the sheet of paper in question. Sure, enough, in the next appointment slot, the name Stormy Silph was written down. Funny, Artie didn't recognize her. She must not have been important.

[break][break] "Do you have a pen?"

[break][break] "I - yes - but sir, what are you - "

[break][break] Nimbly, Artie grabbed it from her, crossing out the other offender's name and putting in his own, with the proper credentials. "Well, she's not here right now. And you know, I'm sure - " He paused, as he thought of the leader's name. He had googled it. "Serena is a very busy lady. You wouldn't want to keep her waiting right?"

[break][break] There was probably something somewhere about Gym Leaders being nitpicky, or divas. Right? There had to be?

[break][break] Speaking of...

[break][break] With a smile, Artie turned on his heel and headed for the gym's exit. The gym's space was too small for the battle itself, he was sure, plus he liked the feeling of seasalt air that the beach offered. He gave a backhand wave. "I'll get ready outside!"

[break][break] A few minutes later, Arthur Finnian Vanderbilt could be found on the shores of Mossdeep. He was like a beautiful silhouette, sandy blond hair, eyes as blue as the ocean they stared out at. Beside his side was Badar, ready for battle. The flubby Seal twitched his whiskers as he readied himself for Selena Desmarais to make an appearance.
