The blizzard was a little too late — it hit the wave after it splashed over the Delphox's light screen, causing it probably to be less effective than it might have been. It still caused the fire-type some damage though, and froze the rest of the water on the beach, turning the formerly sandy beach into an icy terrain difficult to trespass.

[break][break]Ice shimmered beneath the rising sun and beneath both pokemon's feet by the time Serena shot out her own orders.

[break][break] Again, the Delphox waved it's wand. This time, the glow seemed more yellow than clear, electricity sparked on the end of it. In a matter of seconds, the fire-type flicked it's wand towards Badar and the electricity crackled at lightning-fast speed, too fast for the dual-type to dodge, even if he wanted to.

[break][break] "Use Defense Curl," Artie advised, and the pokemon listened. Badar curled into a ball just in time, the shimmer of his DEFENSE CURL reducing the double-effective damage to normal damage, though pain still crackled around his body and onto the ice below. "And follow through!"

[break][break] Without preamble, the Sealeo surged forward with ROLLOUT, aiming to roll down anything in it's path. The newly-formed ice allowed him to gain speed and momentum rapidly, making him quite a literal bowling ball.

[break][break] The blond smiled brightly as the Vulpix ran towards him and he dropped to his knees as the fox pokemon rubbed herself adoringly against his ankles. He reached over and ruffled her between the ears, an affectionate gesture. He didn't have one of these himself, though they did have one as part of the family collection. When he'd left, he thought about stealing one, but he knew Mother would have noticed.

[break][break] "How many times do I have to tell you, Kota? Arthur is my dad." He huffed, pushing himself to his feet. "It's Artie," he said empathetically, hand on his hips.

Completely ignorant to the personal plights of Lulu Flint , the Circhester heir merely stared back at her, his eyes a perfect, crystal-clear cerulean blue.

[break][break] To be perfectly honest, Artie didn't know much about her. They had grow up together, sure, but they had always been in relatively separate circles. When she all but disappeared from his life - their lives in Circhester - it could even be said that Artie barely noticed her disappearance.

[break][break] Rather than respond to his claims, however, she headed for the door. Artie blinked, and then followed her, walking cheerfully next to her with a bit of a hop in her step. "That sounds great!" Though, he paused. "I can help with that." In his other hand, he lifted the plastic baggie, which contained the items he had purchased before. "Though - " He paused. "You're not gonna pay for that right?" He pressed, pointing to the box of hair-dye in her grip.

[break][break] The idea of catching one from a Delphox is laughable, partially because the boy has no interest in fire-types but also because it is such a clever rebuttal. Perhaps, he thinks, he may be able to convince one of the butlers at home to see if they can capture a Delphox for him and steal their wand — though, that probably wouldn't be nearly as entertaining or good as being able to do it himself.

[break][break] Ah. Wasn't that the reason he came to Hoenn in the first place? To try things himself? Hm. What a dilemma.

[break][break] Selena rolls her eyes at him. The Circhester prince doesn't take notice, and even if he did, it is doubtful that it would have had any effect. He has had more than his fair share of people roll their eyes at him, but he's always dismissed them to having problems with their eyesight. What an unfortunate problem for the working class.

[break][break] Badar's wave comes crashing down in a heartbeat, but the Delphox is faster. Or maybe his trainer is. Either way, light sparks from the fire-type as it throws up a barrier to deflect the attack. It is a clever move, Artie must admit, but they will be more so. After all, they were royalty. "Freeze her!" Artie calls, his voice suddenly sharp as it pierces through the air.

[break][break] With the power of the surrounding Hail to aid him, the Sealeo releases a BLIZZARD. Crystals form rapidly around him before he bellows out a winter storm, turning the former water attack to a prison made of permafrost.

Cold pulls around him, and ice crystals shimmer in the prince's hair. He touches a bang absently, watching the cold drip down before shaking his head free of them. He looks back at Badar on the summertime battle field turned into a winter storm; he looks as home as he did back in Circhester.

[break][break] His opponent's Delphox, however, seems unphased. It waves it's wand in the air, the flame shimmering.

[break][break] "That's cute," Artie calls over the roar of the wind. "Think I could buy one somewhere?" It doesn't strike Artie that some things just can't be bought.

[break][break] Meanwhile, the Sealeo slaps his flippers against the sand. A tremendous wave is erected in front of him, seemingly out of nowhere, looming threateningly over the Delphox for a second before it all comes crashing down.

It is a good thing that Lilycove - or Hoenn, for that matter - is nowhere near as cold as Circhester this time of the year. The coldness of Selena Desmarais 's voice carries with the seaside wind, but it does not land on the young man's ears. His smile is blithe and carefree as he takes her in response, returning to his spot several yards away from her to make room for the battle.

[break][break] “I hope you get to prove what you're really capable of.”

[break][break] "That's the plan," the blond laughs in response, blue gaze following curiously at the pokeball that she draws from her belt. She seems to take careful care in choosing her pokemon, which is not much of a surprise to Artie. She wouldn't have been a gym trainer without it, right? As she finally decides on one and releases it into the air, Artie is struck with a random memory of facing off against the kingdom's Maitre d'Armes for the first time.

[break][break] "Okay!" he grins, and then looks to Badar. "Here we go then. Badar, let's make it rain!"

[break][break] Of course, the command is a metaphor at best. The pokemon's body begins a dull glow as clouds darken in the sky above them, dropping snow and ice from the sky in a storm of hail and wind. Having grown up by snowy mountaintops all his life, the cold doesn't bother Artie in the slightest.

The face that @marcellus made at him, bottom lip pushed against the straw stubbornly against his lip, is hilarious. It is also adorable, and Artie has half a mind to capture it. In fact, he does.

[break][break] With his other hand, he is quick to snap a photo of the other just as Marcie drank the offending item and he laughed as he appraised the picture. He showed it back to the other, though careful to keep the phone a little high, just in case Marcie wanted to take it from his grip. "You're great at taking photos, you know, " he quips.

[break][break] Artie's brows pinch a bit with concern as the other coughs - it would have been awkward if he accidentally made the noble's son choke on bubble tea of all things. Definitely not the way he wanted to go. And plus, how was he supposed to explain such a thing to Dir Duhamel? Honestly not a conversation he wanted to have.

[break][break] The prince's expression is thoughtful as Marcie tells him why he's here, before his face brightens with glee. He aims to throw a arm around the other, perhaps leading him to a walk around the festivities. "That's great! We can play some games together," he says, as if he knows the first thing about festival games. Which he doesn't. At all.

[break][break] As expected, Artie is lofty in his next response. "What do you mean?" he says innocently. "I have no idea what you're talking about." His gaze, distracted, draws to his phone as he flicks through his photo album. Maybe if he posted the picture, Marcie wouldn't mind?

The blush that danced across the other's cheeks were admirable and it made Artie wonder how much more he could squeeze out of @derrick. That being said, this was not the time for that.

[break][break] They had a dilemma.

[break][break] Artie huffed slightly when the other denied his request, though he couldn't say he'd been completely surprised. It was something that he'd heard plenty of times from father, whenever he wanted to do something the easier way when the more logical option was still available. Still, you couldn't punish a man for trying, right?

[break][break] The flurry of pats shocked the blond as the other nearly assaulted him, and Artie couldn't help but cough. It wasn't that he was a particularly weak person, but he also wasn't one of such stable disposition that he could handle such an assault without being a little shocked! Back in Circhester, no one had ever touched him like this, without his permission, but then again, that was the entire reason he had left Circhester, right? To be surprised? To enjoy the complexities of Civilian life?

[break][break] "Very well," he said, turning away from the other. His cheeks burned as he placed his hand to his face for a moment, to gather himself. Then he turned back towards the other with a grin, his blush already beginning to fade. "Shall we?"

She swatted at him, and he let her go. He had no wish to be assaulted, especially not by her. Sha-sha was smaller, but she could probably have beat him up if she wanted to.

[break][break] He gave a loud, dramatic sigh. "But Sha-sha," he whined. "Why hair-dye? Out of a box?" He was aghast.

[break][break] "How could you do this? To me? Our family?"

[break][break] Artie acted like she'd stolen his Rookidee and roasted it alive. Though, honestly, given his mentality towards store-bought hair dyes... she might as well have.

Apparently, Artie's joke had not been entirely off base. His eyes were drawn to the other's hands, as the blue-haired man began to talk about how he worked with machines.

[break][break] The blond's nose scrunched up slightly. He could never do such rough work, personally. Not that, of course, he was against it. It was just something that didn't really interest him. It seemed all too messy, and just extremely, not fun. Though, he was glad for subjects like @derrick here that he did work with them. Someone had to, and it certainly wasn't going to be him.

[break][break] "Funny," he quipped. "I would've never guessed."

[break][break] Still, he thought the guy would've been better suited to be the lead singer in a garage band.

[break][break] The conversation carried on, and Artie - as usually - was completely oblivious to the way that he stood out at the work site. As the other ground pokemon and workers milled about, it was only the blond who seemed to be wearing a clean dress-shirt and expensive shoes. Of course, this was not a fact that Artie paid attention to, since it was just normal to him.

[break][break] "You're from Galar?" The prince blinked, and if there was at all a moment of fear or hesitation in his eyes that the other might actually know him, it was brief. It was quickly stamped out as the other introduced himself and Artie grinned. "It's Artie. Or Finn, that's my middle name. Nice to meet you, Derrick."

[break][break] A pause, and he added. "You know, you're cute when you blush."

[break][break] Then a wink.

[break][break] Then, Artie's gaze traveled back towards the incline they had fallen down and then he heaved a big, dramatic sigh. "It's one thing going down, but another thing coming up. Wish there was a lift that could take you right up."

[break][break] He paused, and then his head turned back to @derrick. There was something thoughtful in his gaze. "Unless you want to carry me up?"
