BIOME BADGE GYM CHALLENGE - JUNGLE ROUND 1 - JUDGING JUDGING "Fantastic appeals round! Lots of beautiful Pokemon, and some top tier biome usage. It's an amazing sight seeing all these Pokemon really using their native habitat to the fullest."
"Now let's see the individual scores!"
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ZAC (2): First off, I loved the entrance. Really dynamic and set Infernape as part of the jungle. Great appeal, great use of the biome. The athletic component captured both the feel of a fighting type, and that of a fast and dangerous predator. I just wish there was a bit more usage of Infernape’s fire. Having a jungle Pokemon that uses fire is a very distinctive trait, and not seeing any of that heat felt like a missed opportunity.
CHRYSSA (3): *squawk* An ape-x predator in the flesh! *squawk* Next time I go out into the jungle alone I'll bring my ape whistle...
DOUG (2): Y'all failed to utilize bugs in any matter, so really ya already failed. Bit iffy on usin' a Fire Type pokemon on a Jungle showcase, but I'll forgive it for the excellent use o' the biome's bounty. Since ya went and risked bringin' a fire-type, I would've liked to see 'im thread the line and show his control over fire on such a hazardous environment... but ya already lost 'em all from the bugs anyway so it doesn't matter. Love the loincloth, by the way. A coordinator should find their place alongside their pokemon in the performance, and ya certainly helped enhance the Master's groove. ...
Still no Bugs tho. Zero.
@rowan
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DOUG (1): Excellent use of Biome. He acted as a Serperior in their natural habitat. That's good. But... This is a contest- a showcase. Using the biome ticks only one of many boxes, and it ain't even the Bugs one. Presentation matters; yer entrance was lacking in presence and pizzazz, and yer not even costumed to match your pokemon and performance. The Coordinator's called that for a reason- ya got a role to play yerself, even if you decide to relegate it all to preparations 'fore the performance, and this was all your pokemon's work with nothing from ya to show.
... Oh, and no bugs. CHRYSSA (1): (Snoring noises come from Chatot despite Chryssa appearing wide awake. She has no other visible reaction.)
ZAC (3): Amazing. Everything I wanted to see. The lithe power of an apex serpent, the stillness broken by sudden movement. Fantastic. Serperior felt like it was part of the biome and that it was a dominant force.
Zac awarded Rowan 1 bonus heart for best biome performance.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CHRYSSA (3): *squawk* That was hip and dope! *squawk* You know what they say: an ape-le a day keeps the slow release of death away!
DOUG (3): Yet another monarch joins the race for the Jungle Crown, and I've gotta say... ya just might make it. Biome use, Teamwork, sick beats, a performance... I can't lie. So far, you two are my favorite.
I'm a man of principles, however. Zero.
ZAC (1): There are three actors in a Pokemon contest: Pokemon, stage, and trainer. Kalosian contest style puts equal importance on the Pokemon and the trainer, but for this contest the trainer should be an educational aspect only. If your existence on the stage draws attention away from your Pokemon, then you have weakened the appeal.
In this case, the biome is the stage, and it is just as important as the Pokemon. While you did a good job showing what Rillaboom can do, I got very little sense of it interacting with the biome. You used a lot of moves, but they did very little with respect to the setting. If your appeal would be unchanged on a generic contest stage, then you are not doing enough with the biome.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ZAC (3): Fantastic use of biome, and of what Petilil can do. I especially enjoyed the breaking of the canopy. However, your evolution was poorly timed. Evolution is not a feature exclusive to Petilil, so it doesn’t serve as a fitting climax to an otherwise great appeal. If you wanted to showcase a Lilligant instead of a Petilil, then you should have either opened with the evolution or used it halfway through so that we had a chance to see what it could do.
DOUG (2): Arthur, right? My man, I appreciate plannin' and dedication- and savin' yer pokemon's evolution for the performance and pullin' it off flawlessly? Respect. Alon' with everythin' else you two managed in yer performance, I was hooked through it all; hooked, I tell ya. On a vacuum, it was excellent. But this ain't Mt. Chimney, and that ain't no bug either. Zero.
CHRYSSA (1): *squawk* You call that music? At least do a dance.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ZAC (3): A sly and underhanded appeal that utilized your competitors to showcase your moves? On most other Pokemon it would have come off as rude, but you captured the feel of a dark type predator perfectly. You used the environment, including those around you. Clean, and sharp. Just like Liepard.
DOUG (3): The lady over there upstaged ya at the last moment. Upstaged quite a few, actually. I can appreciate plannin', but also quick thinking. There's somethin' rather memorable 'bout comin' down at the last second to tell everyone they are wron' and they suck. No need to be rude though.
CHRYSSA (2): *terrified screeching at the sight of a cat* (Chatot flies away)
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ZAC (3): Bellossom is considered to be an archetypical jungle Pokemon, which worried me in a contest about standing out and showing unique features. However, you really leveraged that image, and my expectations, to make Bellossom feel like it belongs. I enjoyed the use of Petal Blizzard, which added a little edge to the appeal, and a reminder of the jungle’s inherent danger.
CHRYSSA (3): *squawk* Deadly! Steamy! Teeming with life!
DOUG (2): Ello Doctor! Love the get up and theme; performance was well practiced as well! I'mma have to deduct a single point, though. Hula outside of the beach just don't feel right for me. Oh, and Zero. Bugs and all.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DOUG (1): Gotta be quick now, sorry. Loved the Croagunk's display; it was a good show of his abilities and held my attention much like a well filmed Natural Geographics Documentary. Problem is, you were a little too into the Documentary aesthetic yerself. Yer entrance was forgettable, and while I appreciate the detailed knowledge, I was left waiting for a boomin' climax that never came. Bugs, yada yada, zero.
CHRYSSA (2): *squawk* Who are you, my junior high science teacher? *squawk* A treacherous foe indeed, however... ohoho...
ZAC (3): A man after my own heart! You had a lot to say about Croagunk, and I came away feeling like I had a deeper understanding of the little guy. You highlighted the unique aspect of his typing, and then showcased it wonderfully with the chase through the trees. The usage of a partner really captured an integral part of jungle life: the hunt. Fantastic work!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ZAC (1): That was a great showcase of what Tsareena can do. You used nearby Pokemon to highlight that her power comes from being part of a colony. However, Pokemon are just one part of the jungle and you didn’t use your surroundings to their fullest.
DOUG (3): The Tsarena of the Jungle is the only reason I didn't give Melody and Rillaboom the crown outright. Good move to brin' 'round her little colony; she truly upstaged every other king by actually, ya know... acting like one. Good job, man.
CHRYSSA (2): (Chryssa opens her mouth, shooting a bright array of white stars from her open jaws. She seems happy.)
ROUND 2 - KING OF THE JUNGLE It's one thing to present a fruitful appeal when you have the whole stage to yourself, but how do you fare when there is competition? The goal for the 2nd round is to prove your Pokemon's superiority in this biome. Like a flock of ravenous Oricorio, you will all be presenting at the same time, trying to outperform one another during free-for-all combat. Posting alone doesn't earn you appeal points this round. Points will be awarded for outperforming the others by using a Pokemon move and then rolling at the end of your post. When you post, attack the person before you using your Pokemon! Show the judges why your Pokemon is the best suited to the rough life of the jungle, and make sure to use the biome itself as part of your attack.
DETAILS - Your appeal points from the first round carry over.
- All contestants with 10 or more appeal points at the end of this round will proceed to the final round.
- Roll with your post.
- Rolling higher than the person before you awards 1 appeal point, but rolling lower will award them 1 point instead.
- Ties will award 0 points.
- The first and last posts this round get 1 point automatically, as they are performing uncontested.
- You can post multiple times, but do not double post.
- Judges will also be competing! Outperforming a judge awards 2 appeal points.
- Please use at least one move in each post.
The 2nd round will close on Monday March 8th at Midnight PST.
All contestants with 10 appeal points by the end of this round proceed to the final round. At the end of this round, the judges may award bonus points for excellent biome usage. The judges will also each award a special boon to their favored contestant. These boons will provide a mechanical advantage for the final round. Please use the roll command for every post this round.
