Bill walked into the old ice cream place. It had changed a lot in the last decade. Expanded a little, and the woman behind the counter looked...younger. "Miss Rozale?" Bill asked, and she turned. "You look just like your mother," he said. It wasn't quite true. The teenager's hair was substantially blonder than her mother's. Much lighter than her father's had been too.

"I'm certainly not much of a battler anymore," Bill said, helping himself to one final berry before forgetting about the plate. "Three points, Razz. That makes you the winner. I must say you're quite good at this." Bill left the final assertion unsaid.

"Which means that the ice cream is on me. Shall we look at the dessert menu, or would you like to meet me in Sootopolis next week?" Bill smiled. It was welcoming, like the call of the abyss. "There's a place near my home that does a wonderful razzberry sorbet. Rather fitting, and not too sweet."

"I'm from Sootopolis," Bill said, encapsulating their climatic preferences in a few perfect words. "It's Summer all year round there. Endless beaches, boats, and crystalline water."

"So what are you in the mood for today, Miss Silph? A standard battle, or something a bit more athletic?" Bill was of course referring to the Sphealball courts that had been set up along the Slateport Beach.

Bill's champion stood in the blue corner of the Alolan style Royal Battle arena. Salazzle's body coiled around the blue post like a wisp of stained smoke.

In the opposing corners were some familiar faces. Lulu Flint , his acquaintance from an eventful boatride turned hostage situation. CIAN MAHER , a fellow rocket member. And some poor, flat-footed Slateport local who would soon find himself beset upon by three merciless opponents.

"Hello Bo," Bill said, eyeing him calmly from the other end of the Extreme Status-Ball court. Based on the reports of his associates, this ex-employee was not yet a liability. "I trust you are doing well in your new business ventures?"

Bill stretched languidly, like a panther preparing for a hunt through the treetops. His Lars and Articuno polo shirt remained miraculously tucked into his Lars and Articuno swimming trunks. He wore Lars and Articuno sweat bands, though there wasn't a drop of moisture on his wrist, forehead, back, or neck.

"Enjoying the Summer?"

"Afternoon, Wolfe," Bill said, sitting down next to her on one of the shaded picnic tables along the edge of the battling beach. Their meeting had been organized beforehand. A chat, and then a sweaty tussle in the sand. Afterwards they may even have time for a Pokemon battle.

Bill arrived at the volleyball arena five minutes early, and recognized his opponent immediately. The hair, the physique, the eyes. "Hello Kazimir," Bill said, spreading his finest, most fatherly smile across his pristine teeth. "My name's Bill Anderson. I've read a lot about the good you're doing for Hoenn. It's a pleasure to finally meet you." Bill took up his spot at one end of the court, and signaled for the referee to wait. "How are you today? Enjoying the summer?"

"As always," Bill replied. The breeze was blowing in off the ocean, carrying with it the scents of rain, far away land, and heavy salt. "Miss Silph, thank you for meeting me. I've been eyeing your career with some interest." It was a half truth. In reality he had worked backwards, identifying people of power within the region and digging into their history. Stormy was of particular interest. An avatar, like his son, and a member of the elite four. She would be a powerful acquaintance.

"How about yourself. Spend much time at the beach?"

Disarming Voice knocked Claude out of the tree, but he never hit the ground. Instead, he swooped into a thick patch of shadow and reappeared underneath the table. "Let's see then," Bill mused, nodding to the server as the fresh plate of berries was delivered. He pushed it to the edge of the table, where the two feuding Pokemon could easily grab their fill.

"My hobbies are sailing and collecting sports paraphernalia," he said, thankful that he wasn't wearing any of his son's latest merchandise. "I used to be prominent in the battling circuit. Four gym badges," he paused, trying to pull up memories of his youth. "Oh, and I once dated a member of the Elite Four."

LAPRAS SWARM (SEASIDE SUMMER)

The harbor was crowded. Outgoing boats swarmed the Slateport reef in hopes of catching one of the gorgeous creatures that swam there.

Haunting, siren song drifted across the waves, carried by the roll and coil of the surf. The notes stuck in sails, and pulled at the ears and minds of those with a feel for the sea.

Bill had been sailing of his own accord. He was one of the many already out on the water. The Lapras had delayed his docking, but there was nothing wrong with sitting for a while.

It was a glorious, brilliant day. The sun beat down on the deck of his ship, and Bill stretched out under the spotless sails, listening to the call of the ocean.

Bill took a moment to truly appreciate the icy glory of the anime Lars and Articuno. "The style is quite disarming," he said, appreciating the artistic blush, huge eyes, and tasteful cleavage.

"Behind the Zapsi booth? So they really were hiding away." Bill said, setting his Lars and Articuno branded reusable eco-bags down for a moment. He moved some of the merch, pulled out his Lars an Articuno water bottle, opened the beak, and took a sip from the bright blue straw. "Did you get the pet clothes at the same place?" he asked, replacing the bottle. eyeing Angelo's Lycanroc with mild jealousy. Bill had never been much of a dog person, but if they them in smaller sizes he would see one fitting on Laurence.

"No hobbies sounds true," Bill said, smiling a bit too wide. "So I'd venture that you got your service Pokemon after you started out as a Pokemon trainer. That's how it usually goes."

Claude slashed the Shadow Ball in two with his Leaf Blade, and let the halves detonate in the tree around him. Leaves and bark fell to the ground, and he opened his beak wide to show there were no berries left. Bill watched the fight with amusement and ordered some another plate of berries.

"You look a bit like a Poison-type trainer, but there's no point guessing what someone used to be into. The here and now is much easier."

"Not unless I missed a few birthdays," Bill joked. "If I recall he's twenty-nine. And that's a miss, I'm afraid. The second one was the lie. We were married two weeks after we met."

Claude clicked and chirped at the rude little cat, before using Shadow Sneak to disappear up into a nearby tree so he could eat in peace. He snuck a few more of the berries, polishing off the plate.

"We're still at two points to one. And it's your turn again," Bill said. With the fruit now gone, he went back to sipping his ice water. The cubes had disappeared in the heat.

Bill laughed, spearing a slice of bluk berry. The plate of fruit was more than half gone. "I hardly thing I should be rewarded for being completely wrong. No no, we'll continue as before."

As Bill lined up his next questions, he sent out Claude, his Decidueye. Reflective eyes peered out from deep within the hood, focusing in on the fruit. Shadows shifted, and suddenly a few of the pieces were missing. Decidueye chewed, crunching on stems and rind. His long reach was paying dividends.

"I met my wife when I was seventeen, we were married a year later, and we've been together for over thirty years."
