When Angelo gives him the obvious answer (boring) and implies that it’s obvious that he shouldn’t have even asked (even more boring), Mars simply raises a brow and takes another measured sip from his drink, because if he were to ever act as if anything the pilot says actually affects him, that would clearly mean defeat.

How much Remiel knows of Mars’ own unwilling connection to the DRK Triad, the underboss is unsure. Those with access to the Unown Report have seen his name among its entries, those who entered the Cloud saw the Unown interface with him to free them all from that virtual realm, and those who, like Remiel, had recently belonged to Team Rocket’s top brass, had had access to reports detailing his interactions with the mysterious extradimensional organization.

Mars does not dwell on this, though. It’s more like an open secret, at this point; even some of those higher up in the League have their speculations.

“Yeah, that seems to be the case. Unless their intent isn’t actually to destroy this world.”

What is all this, then? Some kind of test? The possibility had crossed Mars’ mind before. If the DRK Triad actually works for Arceus, why do they have so much issue with destroying a single world? Is Arceus actually not as powerful as they had thought?

“The worst part is we’re sitting ducks. They could open another portal at any time and have Kyurem poke its massive head through it.”

Bells chime, a sound a psychic specialist is no stranger to. Not the deep and loud sound produced by a Bronzong, but the small and gentle one of a Chingling being carried away by the wind. Dollar looks up at it, deep chattering rumbling in his throat as if excited for the prospect of pouncing on it.

Sadly for the Persian, Chingling is not on today’s shopping list, and so they must let it be.

Thankfully, Dollar is ever too obedient to act without Mars’ instructions, and as soon as the banker keeps walking, the huge feline pokémon is quick to follow along.

They run and run and run… and, at one point or another, on their way up the mountain, the tendrils at the sides of the Riolu’s head (which are not ears, mind you) twitch as if noticing something.

Since he acts to defend, he does so without Mars’ command: PSYBEAM being stopped by a shielding FRENZY PLANT that continues on its way to hurt the cantankerous Delphox nearby.

To say that TERASTELLIZATION is quite a sight would perhaps be an understatement, for the crystals that begin to coat the Typhlosion’s body shimmer beautifully under the training chamber’s fluorescent lights. Iridescence gives way to the melting of ice, and even the symbol that crowns the pokémon’s head doesn’t make for a terrible aesthetic effect…

“Huh. Is that… a ghost? A bit on the nose, no?” Mars jokes, squinting at the Typhlosion’s hat. However, as much as they both clearly appreciate aesthetics, what matters more is the power of this new anomaly and how it may be used to their advantage.

Nim is quick to give them a show, firing a move unlike any move Mars has seen before. It bounces off Calliope’s PROTECT all the same, but that’s not what matters. Opponents won’t always protect.

“I had heard pokémon might adquire new moves while Terastellized. Interesting… That means you could potentially assign them any type and they’d have a move to match.” He muses out loud, a second before a click of his tongue commands Calliope to fire her FLASH CANNON.

A Gengar seems interested in causing some mischief; suddenly appearing from within the shadows cast by their pokémon. The more likely truth is that they happened to wander into its territory, but even if Mars is aware that this might be the case, it doesn’t stop him from commanding Dollar to deal with the problem.

Less of a problem and more of a small inconvenience, really.

Try as the Gengar may, none of its spectral attacks have any effect on the Persian, its Normal type working as one of its greatest advantages. Between this immunity and the use of HIDDEN POWER, the battle is quickly decided, making it easy for Mars’ attention to return to his new acquaintance.

There had once been a time when Mars had held no particular appreciation for them, but coincidentally enough, it had been the Dragapult by his side that had changed that for him. Xanthos had hatched from an egg almost a year ago now, and from that very moment, the little Dreepy had imprinted on the banker. Even now, once the Greninja is dealt with and no longer perceiving Freya as a threat, Xanthos nuzzles the hand that pats his head.

“Ah, yeah. I can see how distortions might have had an effect like that.” For how much Mars had studied Space-Time Distortions, he had never considered the fact that they might have such kind of effects on the wildlife. It makes perfect sense, though. Goes to show that perspective and expertise really can make a difference when it comes to understanding every aspect of a situation, no? So, even though he just met her, because of this, freya morningstar earns a certain amount of appreciation.

He had not expected company, but when one happens to be a public figure and have a considerable amount of acquaintances, running into people who recognize him is inevitable, really. Amor Rose is not unfamiliar to Mars, and all in all, his presence in Hoenn’s metropolis is the sort of thing the banker would expect.

Him asking about the Frigibax, however? That’s a bit more unexpected, but then again, most people in Hoenn have grown fascinated with these pokémon that rarely live out of the Paldea region. The Frigibax itself seems unsure about Amor at first, comically attempting to hide behind Mars’ leg.

“Mr. Rose, it’s good to see you.” He greets with a cordial smile, then taking a sip from his cup. Golden eyes wander down to the juvenile dragon, and calmly, he gives its head a few pats. “It’s a Frigibax, they’re from Paldea. Ever seen a Baxcalibur before? I’m sure someone as fond of dragons as you would enjoy the sight.”

And, while the sight of Melody Miro sitting in the middle of a recording studio once would have been perceived as perfectly ordinary, given everything that had happened just yesterday, it makes him think his concerns were justified. For how long has she been struggling with this.

“Hey, Mel. You forgot your umbrella yesterday.” He explains with a soft smile, slightly raising the traditional Hoennian umbrella in question. However, instead of just handing it back, he calmly moves to take a seat near her. “Cobalion let me in.”

They both know Cobalion isn’t his biggest fan, so that in itself may just go to show that even the legendary himself is concerned about her.

Conversation flows easily, to the point that Mars barely pays attention to Oro’s doings. Barely. In the corner of his eye, he can see the Gholdengo sizing up a Beartic as if to determine if the ice type would make for a worthy opponent. Mars decides to make the decision for it, simply whistling to get Oro to attack.

While the pokémon engage in combat, the banker’s attention goes to Remiel.

“That makes two of us. It sounds incredible, from the reports I’ve seen.” The word choice is purposeful. Incredible. Their reasons to be interested in Kyurem are likely much different, but of course, Mars is not aware of this. “Should have known the DRK Triad was keeping something like that hidden.”

Which, of course, does make him wonder… If the DRK Triad is in possession of Kyurem and Enamorus, and if they had captured Dialga and Palkia as well, can the same be said for every Pokémon the Unown-? had reported? Last year, Father Winter had mentioned Wyrdeer in his letters…

He bring Ajax with him this time. Generally, the Riolu is not a Pokémon Mars would bring along where he can run into people, but that’s a rarity at Mount Pyre, and especially so when it’s this early in the morning. He hadn’t had a lot of time to continue training Ajax as of late, and with the new year having just begun, that’s one thing he intends to change.

The small canine pokémon keeps up with his jogging speed by maintaining a steady pace. Once, it had struggled, but it has been a while since Mars had begun training Ajax like this. When will he evolve? Will he ever evolve? Only time will tell if their bond grows strong enough and if he meets Raphael Pryde’s expectations for this study, but for now, Mars is actually quite pleased with the obedience and resolve shown by the Riolu.

First up in the shopping list: Darumaka. Honestly, Mars had grown to have a certain appreciation for the small Zen Charm Pokémon, although that may just be because of what a struggle it had been to find one to gift to BARNABY FINCH for his fire type collection. Of course the warden would add them to his Safari repertoire not even a month later. Typical.

See, while Mars may have a Darmanitan (it’s Zen Mode form is Psychic type), he does not have the pre-evolved form, so here he is, patching up that small hole in his collection. Dollar is glad to help him with the task too, and with a quick succession of WATER PULSES, the first item in their list is crossed out.
