It had only been a few years during the shuffle of her father's work, barely a blip amongst all the other places they'd traveled to.
Luka wants to pry, to ask the mundane but expected: oh, where are you from? When did you move? Do you miss it terribly?[break][break]
But she doesn't, because that might be rude and because they aren't that close, but Luka knows a thing or two about homesickness. She just smiles softly and gives Illeana a knowing look, one she hopes can convey the same tenuous camaraderie that she feels.[break][break]

There are more pressing issues at hand, of course. And Illeana cuts straight to the point.[break][break]"Erm, well..."[break][break]

Luka exhales and finally sets down her books. They'll be of no help to her right now. Pastel fingertips toy idly with the chain around her neck but she doesn't remove it from her blouse just yet.[break][break]

"Yes, I think. Maybe? I don't know..." What a poor answer. She swallows and tries again. "I saw her once, in Slateport. It was really just a glance...it might have been a hallucination, f-for all I know. But I feel like it was really her. This was...gosh, it would have been last year, now? And then, erm...I did see her again. But it wasn't in Hoenn."[break][break]

Someone is watching her.[break][break]

The Splashfest is nearing its final days; reverie reaches a fever pitch as citizens party with abandon or try drowning their anxieties with drink.
And Luka does her best to join their number, wearing a carefree smile to the best of her ability as the weight of an uncertain future sags upon tense shoulders. Some days are easier than others, and booze helps. But try as she might she can't shake the gnawing anxiety that tears up her stomach, nor the creeping shiver up her spine whenever she's alone during the festivities.[break][break]
At first she thinks herself paranoid. The hairs at the back of her neck stand on end, but there's never anything behind her when she turns around. But sometimes, out of the corner of her eyes, she sees it. Shadows moving within shadows, deeper patches of night flickering in and out of her vision like floaters during a migraine.[break][break]
She feels it now as she makes her way home— it only ever happens when she's alone. The grip on her purse tightens, which is silly, for certainly a pickpocket would have struck by now. Perhaps, if need be, she can use the bag as a weapon; a bold thought for a girl who's never struck someone else before.[break][break]
"Hello?" She chirps into the darkness like a songbird, a sweet pitch masking the tremble in her voice. "Is anybody there?"[break][break]
Her Musharna floats idly by her side, bleeding tendrils of dream mist around her feet. Incorporeal as it is, it still brings Luka comfort. She clears her throat and calls again. "Hello?"

She really can't put a finger on it. Maybe he is just tired. Luka pinches Danny's cheeks while she stares at him, squinting through the dim light of the bar.[break][break]

"Well, you look good! Very handsome," she asserts, and finally releases him. "So keep doing whatever you're doing, I guess!" [break][break]Compliments flow as easily as alcohol and her lips quirk into an easy grin again.

"They're around here, I think...it's like, um. A work thing though, y'know?" Luka blanches. "Wait, maybe I shouldn't have sung an anime theme in front of them..."

Luka Chene is no scientist. In fact, the Florges that accompanies her today is far more qualified to study the crystalblooms than she'll ever be.[break][break]
The fairy type studies them intently, her Flower Veil blanketing the pot of flowers in she and Luka's care. With a deft touch she repots a few, curious to their reaction to different soils, different qualities of life...very scientific stuff.[break][break]
Luka hums in an imitation of someone studious and scribbles a few notes down. The margins of her notebook are full of scrawling doodles: hearts and stars and vague approximations of the flowers before her. Vaguely she wonders if a meaning has been assigned to them yet— who says flower language can't evolve just like human tongue?[break][break]
But what might they stand for? A mysterious beauty? A portent of doom? A crystalbloom bouquet that signifies, 'You're the light of my life' or something of that sort.[break][break]
Maybe she should ask Elisabeth Fiorelli later. For now, her Florges breaks her out of a daydream for help getting another pot of flowers, and Luka happily plays along as her assistant for the day.

Condensation drips down the side of her glass and pools over her hand. Luka is silent for a long moment as she stares at her friend, slowly processing what he'd just told her. It's a lot, and it's barely scratching the surface.[break][break]

"Did you know?" Sweat weighs down her bangs and she shoves them out of her face, fixating on Matias with a wide, unblinking gaze. "Did...d-did you know the Relicanth would die?"[break][break]

She can't even be mad, not really. Luka bursts into giggles as they fall over again, sliding across the ice like a pair of Eiscue.[break][break] It's the kind of silliness that's sure to cement itself into a happy winter memory. Even if they never see each other again, Luka won't forget the flush of cold in Cian's cheeks or the sparkle of laugher in his eyes. Her hand tightens around his while they slide around, wanting to hold onto this moment for as long as it lasts.[break][break]

"Maybe not," Luka agrees when they slowly come to a stop. "I want a hot chocolate though! How can you eat ice cream at a time like this?" She grins and starts struggling to her feet, holding out a gloved hand for Cian to hold. "Though I have to say...even though we're bad at it, I had a lot of fun on the ice with you!"

Everyone moves on. Perhaps Luka is just a little different, or maybe she's just bad at letting go of the past. Her heart is a living shrine to everyone she's ever loved.[break][break]

"Y-yeah, he's...really amazing," she says, which is an understatement, but it still feels weird to gush with an ex like this. But the smile on her face, bleeding a happy bashfulness, says it all.[break][break]

"Ehh...I'm sure there is one! Or like, it's definitely coming soon. I'm sorry to hear that though..." She wants to ask what happened, but is that too insensitive? Luka twists a hand into her skirt— it feels a little unfair for her to be so happy when things aren't working out for Danny. If she could share her good fortune with him, she would in a heartbeat.[break][break]

"But I'm sure things will work out for you! It just takes a little time sometimes. And I'm totally rooting for you! I'll be your cheerleader from now on, okay?" [break][break]The smile on her face becomes more natural as the restaurant swims into view, promising a long night of catching up and wonderful company.

She squeals as Danny pulls her into a hug and happily returns it, arms tight around her neck in an embrace she had only dreamt about as a younger girl. This time around, she feels a little more comfortable being intimate— boundaries might have been set, but alcohol is a strong inhibitor.[break][break]

Luka squirms around in his arms until she's facing him, putting just enough distance between them that she can reach up and cup his face. "You look so different, by the way!" she shouts over the sounds of the next song playing. "Good different...but different! What happened?"

Tuile the Butterfree is not merely a seamstress.[break][break]
She's a designer.[break][break]
String-shotted threads are woven with precision and grace, creating a lace that looks delicate but is surprisingly durable. The woven patterns are vaguely reminiscent of a Butterfree's scales, and Tuile seems very pleased with herself as she flutters over the pile of lacy threads below her.[break][break]
The point of these sygna suits is practicality, but why should form be sacrificed for function? However, these designer threads can't really be used for construction, merely embellishment. So after a brief talking-to Tuile produces some simple threads without frills or flourishes...but she's not happy about it.

You Can't Sip with Us: A Winetastic Girls' Night [Mega/OPEN]

Not all these crusty men invading girls night...[break][break]

Their voices might be enough to give it away, but Luka isn't paying them much attention. Instead she's busy trying to paint in tune with the first of many girlboss power ballads to grace their evening, skirt swishing as she sashays her hips to the beat.[break][break]

I really, really, really wanna zigazig ah..."[break][break]

The beat doesn't really make for easy painting but all that matters is she's having fun, right? Speaking of which, Dahlia looks amazing with big shoujo anime eyes. Oh! She needs to add more sparkles though...[break][break]

Her eyes flicker up to the stage, and the procession of blondes entering. She recognizes a few— she'd enjoyed a little banter with ana fell and waves at the blonde as she ascends the stage with Elisabeth Fiorelli in tow. Live models, how fun! It makes the whole experience seem more professional, somehow. Maybe she should be trying harder with her own painting?[break][break]

But apparently, she's not the only fan of the Spice Girls. As Luka reaches for her white paint she finds herself knocking elbows with a Mr. Mime who's also getting down with her bad self. Is she twerking? Oh god...[break][break]

The wine glasses on Mrs. Mime's tray wobble precariously, but Luka manages to catch a glass before it spills all over illeana reyes. The liquid sloshes and threatens to overflow so she dumps it in the nearest safe receptacle— her open mouth. Chugging pink moscato is definitely one way to spend the evening...[break][break]

The only reason she might be banned from the library is if they require an IQ test. Luka flushes slightly and shakes her head, pink curls tumbling over her stack of books.[break][break]

"Sorry, um...no, I'm not! It's just, you know..." Her voice is soft but self-doubt lingers at the edges of each syllable, like an afterthought. "I just don't want to get in the way of people who really need to use the facility, that's all."[break][break]

She laughs softly, shifting the books in her arms and only vaguely noticing the way Illeana stares at a particular title.[break][break]

"Ehe, you caught me!" There's no reason for her to feel embarrassed and yet it creeps in anyways. Like a child being caught trying on her mother's heels, Luka can't help but feel self conscious about pretending to be something she's not. The studious type...eugh.[break][break]

"There's um...some pieces of Sinnoh mythology I was interested in," she explains needlessly. "I realized I'd only heard a lot of it from storybooks, so I wanted to look into things a little more."[break][break]
