THE SLATEPORT ART GALLERY is hosting its first ever Girls' Wine Painting Night! With the fun tagline of, "Paint, Sip Wine, and Get to Know the Girls!", it promises a night of comradery, artistry, giggly gossip, and copious amounts of wine. Easels have been placed throughout the premises for participants, tended to by Smeargle, as Mr. Mime waiters carry around offerings of wine and delicate appetizers.[break][break]

Today's event is hosted by illustrious Hoenn artist sensation, MIMI MAGNIFIQUE, also known as MADAME MAGNIFIQUE. By her suggestion, the painting that is to be completed today is none other than an homage to the best subject that Hoenn has to offer its population of women:[break][break]

The First Arrival!

How Elisabeth Fiorelli got dragged into things like this, she never knew. She was too polite to refuse people who begged for her to attend things, she supposed.[break][break]

Especially things as gaudy as this.[break][break]

"Paint, Sip Wine, and Get to Know the Girls!" was the horribly tacky tagline for this otherwise upscale Slateport gallery's "Girls Night." Dozens of easels had been set up by Smeargle for the attendees to paint, while Mr. Mimes carried around trays of wine glasses with open bottles for pouring. Cubed cheeses, grapes, breads, and charcuterie boards were also available for any attendees who wanted something to pair with the drinks.[break][break]

An absurdly chirpy woman with bouncy curls was leading this event, with giant hand gestures that made full use of her loose sleeves. "Let the art flow through you," the artist said vaguely, as she pointed to the image they were supposed to mimic.[break][break]

A portrait of dahlia goode, of all things. Given the current political landscape, Elisabeth half-expected half the participants' easels to include some combination of horns or a mustache by the end of the evening.[break][break]

"...Here's hoping the wine is at least decent," she sighed to whomever sat next to her, her low expectations for that painfully audible as she picked up a paintbrush.

They hadn’t agreed to meet here, but here was as good as any, and, of course, the promise of alcohol meant Cyg was there-- like a city rat who’d gotten addicted to booze by drinking runoff from a shitty club.

“Is painting one of your many fancy girl talents?” she set a glass of red on the little table next to her and helped herself to a cube of cheese.

"I've had better, I'll be honest, Kyrenai ushered to the sighing blonde and her companion, allowing her eyes to peer away from her canvas just long enough to look at their host's painting and smirk. Of course she chose Dahlia Goode as her subject. Not that she couldn't see the artistic side of it all, but given recent events... bringing politics to a painting party was a poor way to go. At least for the assassin, it was.

Her concept of painting was all but what was expected of her here, but she'd promised the Black family she'd behave-- not quite with those words, but she wanted to build a nice façade before she went and barged into her brother's office later on. Being involved in classy, lady-like, and mostly innocent happenings such as these was the perfect way to go about that, even though she abhorred painting herself. Or maybe she just abhorred something else directly related to it. "But I suppose it does beat plain water." A smile curled her lips, but her face remained perfectly composed; mostly because their host eyed her for a brief moment, and the Black just rose her wine glass in return. "Albeit barely. But that's just me."

The wine was decent. Well, at least for Penelope it was. After guzzling down mountains worth of redbulls and monsters, anything tasted better than the battery acid she was used to, even if it came from inexpensive bottles.

It was one of the reasons she even invited her colleagues out in the first place. For once, she wanted to spend her night outside the house, doing something other than work or watching anime with CIAN MAHER . They were fun times, sure, but enough was enough. She needed girlfriends and she needed them fast.

A handful of cheese cubes jostled in her hand as she approached the easel beside illeana reyes . "Hopefully dahlia goode will never have to see whatever the hell this gonna turn out to be," She chuckled, popping one of the cubes into her mouth. It was only then a familiar voice beckoned for the councilwoman to face a woman a few seats over. "Ah, look whose here! It's the mysterious florist yet again." She eyed Kyrenai Black and ana fell, curious. Friends, maybe? "I think it's great, actually. Maybe give another glass a try?"

Nikita took a sip from her wine glass to give the liquid an experimental taste, then glanced askance at Elisabeth Fiorelli.[break][break]

"It's not what I'm used to, but I really can't expect much more from this… type of establishment," she admitted, letting her hazel eyes rove around the room. Women were still entering and taking their seats, chatting among each other. Nikita herself sat near her new acquaintance, behind a blank canvas with which she is supposed to paint Commissioner Dahlia Goode, of all people.[break][break]

It was not like Nikita to attend one of these events, but her recent visit to the museum had rekindled her interest in learning to paint. Imagine her surprise to see Elisabeth there, after expecting to be surrounded only by strangers.[break][break]

"Let's hope I can produce something passable," Nikita said with a soft chuckle, putting down her wine glass to collect a small bunch of grapes into her artificial hand.

Wine. [break][break]

Something she was glad to learn she still thoroughly enjoyed. The added bonus? No one was around to stop her.[break][break]

By her side was her Smeargle with blue paint who was going to town on the portrait of Dahlia with a separate paint brush as Melody did slow brush strokes of her own. But honestly she refused to paint her boss. It was kind of weird. [break][break]

Instead she sat there, the blank canvas staring back at her as she looked around the room to see everyone having a great time. If only Xander Belmont were around. [break][break]

She snaps out of it and tries to keep visualizing what she wants to paint, but nothing comes to her. As the conversation in the room grabs her attention. Hearing PENELOPE LIVY 's comment she smiles and chuckles to herself "I mean if it's good enough I could go show her." she says wondering if the people in the room would recognize her. [break][break]

Finishing off the rest of her cubed cheese, the woman plucked her paintbrush back up from the easel and began to make art appear on the canvas. Or, at least, she tried to. As they would all soon come to find out: Penelope wasn't much of an artist.

Arceus on a hotdog, was every single woman in Hoenn stuck up and hoity toity?

Look, she expected it from Elisabeth Fiorelli, because Elisa was a Kalosian heiress. And Cyg, well, Cyg wasn’t so much a snob as she was an alcoholic-- and wine, in general, wasn’t her favorite poison of choice.

She smiled politely at @nikita and Kyrenai Black, taking a huge slug of wine to stop from saying anything stupid.

“I think you’re right,” she said to PENELOPE LIVY, as she covered a small burp with the back of her hand. “I think it’s going to be just fine.”

The wine, not the painting.

“Do you really think the commish is the type to have a bunch of portraits of her hung up in her office?” she asked no one in particular, frowning at the decidedly mustard color she was using for the commissioner’s hair.

A true ride or die girlie can appreciate cheap barefoot wine, okay? If you haven't had to make a 7-11 run at 1am for a bottle then you haven't truly lived.[break][break]

"I think it's nice," Luka pipes up as she heads towards an easel, swirling strawberry moscato around her glass in a poor imitation of a sommelier. "You can really taste the, um...tannins. Or whatever."[break][break]

She settles in beside illeana reyes, grateful that time and changing circumstance has made them sort of, kind of, maybe friends? PENELOPE LIVY is granted a happy smile as well and if Elisabeth Fiorelli were to glance her way, she'd receive the same. It's nice— just hanging out casually, spending time with a bunch of other lovely women. Some she knows better than others, certainly, but hopefully that'll change. This is meant to be a kind of bonding experience, right?[break][break]

With a soft hum she puts a brush to canvas, though after a few strokes it becomes painfully obvious that her style is largely influenced by the copious amounts of shoujo manga she's read over her lifetime.[break][break]

Seraphine had heard about this "Paint, Sip Wine, and Get to Know the Girls!" event through the grapevine, and she had almost not attended, as her presence at such an event would, naturally, be extremely unfair to everyone else in attendance. After all, she was a master painter, and most of the women around her were decidedly not.[break][break]
But when had she ever been one to care overly much about flaunting her talents? If she made anyone else feel bad, that was their problem, not hers. She simply could not pass up the opportunity to gain a little more face time with the esteemed Elisabeth Fiorelli, as well as potentially overhear some of Slateport's juiciest drama. Drama meant divorces, affairs, and any number of reasons one might be in need of a forgery. She was doing more than simply showing off tonight.[break][break]
The seats nearest to Elisabeth were taken by the time Seraphine arrived (fashionably late, of course), but a woman she did not instantly recognize nearby to Elisabeth caught her attention. Sliding into a seat next to @nikita, she inclined her head to the sophisticated looking woman, making note of her prosthetic arm without outright staring. "I don't believe we've met," she said politely. "My name is Seraphine D'Aureville." She had brought her own supplies of course - these tacky painting socials might provide decent wine, but they were always so cheap about the actual brushes and paints - and began to casually unpack them.[break][break]
Dahlia Goode was the collective muse, it seemed. Perhaps if her portrait was good enough - which, of course, it would be - Dahlia might want to purchase it. The woman must be quite stressed as of late, she thought, thinking of the meteor hurtling its way towards Hoenn. Perhaps I'll give her a discount when the time comes.[break][break]
Shaking her head in refusal as a Mr. Mime offered her some cheese, Seraphine began to sketch out Dahlia's facial features, listening idly to the chatter around her. Was that famous pop star Melody Miro over there? Seraphine would have to greet her. Next to Elisabeth, a young blond (ana fell) burped loudly, and Seraphine's mouth turned down in distaste.[break][break]

Elinor had arrived at the appointed hour. She had figured an evening dedicated to everything but work would do her good, and perhaps she could brush up (no pun intended) on her painting skills.

Elinor had claimed a spot towards the end of the gathering. Keeping her out of their immediate conversation circle but within earshot of all the gossip.

A glass of wine had been claimed, though her mouth was currently occupied with the consumption of the fine cheese offered to her by a Gentlemanly Mr. Mime.

Like many of those who had already begun to paint. She had used their esteemed dahlia goode as a muse for tonight’s painting. Currently, she had only started sketching but, it was clear to anyone with a pair of working eyes and a half-sober mind, that what Elinor was intending to paint was a depiction of their esteemed leader (clothing to be determined) laying upon a bed of laurels as she reaches towards the sky where the almighty Arceus and his heavenly host flew. Though Arceus were reaching for Dahlia as well, it did not touch. For humanity could never truly lay their hands upon godhood.

Elisabeth tentatively brought a wine glass to her lips, then scowled. "One of the only times I miss Kalos is when I drink wine," she murmured, meeting Kyrenai Black and @nikita's clear expressions of contempt with shared commiseration.

To ana fell, however, she attempted a slight smile. Her friend had invited her here, after all, and Elisabeth could be cordial. "Still, inferior wine is better than no wine." And with that, she drank deeply, with no intention of savoring a flavor she found fault with.

Her eyes took a moment to scan the premises. illeana reyes and Seraphine D’aureville were new faces, but Elinor Anderson and luka chêne received a brief smile of greeting, as did recent acquaintance Melody Miro. Once they landed on PENELOPE LIVY, however, her expression soured.

"Florists are allowed hobbies, too," she said tersely in reply to the reporter's sly commentary, and returned to her easel.

Elisabeth did have many fancy girl talents, as ana fell noted, but while sketching flowers and other plant life was second nature to her, human anatomy proved more challenging.

"My mother was a very skilled painter," she said belatedly to the blonde woman beside her, before pausing to examine the lines and colours that had already marked her canvas with irreversible decisions. "...I am not."

Calling this initial outline of a figure human would be kind.

Locke quietly sipped on their wine-which they thought was perfectly fine, not that they could really tell the difference-while casting subtle glances over at the mirrors set aside for self-portraits. A cheap set of hair extensions and a bow was all the transformation needed to pass the courier off as one of the girls, allowing both themselves and their insistent Smeargle access to the exclusive event. The only thing that might give them away is the cast still wrapped stiffly around their leg, kept carefully tucked beneath their dress while their crutch lay propped against the chair.

Thankfully, the only person they'd noticed so far who might recognize them was luka chêne, who seemed perfectly distracted mingling with the other women present.

His own rendition of dahlia goode was coming along as well as a boat on land, but it at least looked closer to the real thing than Casso-Casso's surrealist interpretation.

"Why is she blue…" he mumbled as he leaned over to check on his Pokémon's painting, failing to recognize the geography of Hoenn superimposed onto the commissioner's face and earning a sour look from the pup.

Nibbling on her grapes, Nikita tuned into the idle chitchat around her about whether the commissioner would really hang up their paintings or not. Personally, she hoped not. The last time she had attempted a sketch of her new Shinx, it looked like something a toddler might doodle.[break][break]

As she struggled to sketch a recreation of Dahlia Goode's portrait, a stranger seated herself next to Nikita. The silver-haired woman looked up from her work as the dark-haired one introduced herself.[break][break]

"Nikita Wells," she replied, putting down her pencil and extending her real hand to shake Seraphine D’aureville's.[break][break]

Then, instead of taking up the pencil again, she took a generous gulp of the odious wine, following Elisabeth Fiorelli's example. She supposed her new friend was right; inferior wine was better than no wine, especially when surrounded by that many new faces.[break][break]

"Let's just be glad Commissioner Goode isn't going to pop out of the back door at the end of the night to surprise-judge our work," Nikita joked in an attempt to join the conversation. "I don't think I'd be anywhere near drunk enough to survive that, no matter how much I drink now."
