Summer sighed against his lips, breathing deeply as he pulled away. What she’d do to spend the rest of her life just like this, sitting in his lap and engulfed in his arms. To bask in the sunlight and never have to worry about a thing besides when his next kiss would be.[break][break]

She shook her head. ”I’m not adorable…” she pouted against him, leaning her head against his chest.[break][break]

The rumbling of his stomach stopped her from proceeding further. She laughed before she sliding off of him. ”Let’s finish eating.”[break][break]

The food and drink was delicious. But once it was time to go in, the game was on. Summer was all purely innocent and angelic until they reached the bedroom, closing the door quietly. The second it was shut, however, she practically lunged at Gunner, grabbing him by the shirt and pulling him to her. While still romantic and passionate, her kisses were hungry and filled with desire.

Summer allowed him to engulf her, savoring his kiss as she leaned into him. As close as she could humanly get in the setting they were in. She drew her hands over his body, sighing contently into his mouth as they broke away. She looked at him intensely, but nothing could prepare her for what he said next.[break][break]

”I love you.”[break][break]

Did she hear him right? Her ears were buzzing as she stared almost dumbly at him, face turning a hot shade of red as her brain processed what he had just confessed. So, Gunner felt that way… too?[break][break]

Overwhelmed with a surge of emotions, Summer grasped his face and kissed him again. It was fueled with passion and fire like no other before, as she held him close like she would lose him if she let go. But when she broke away, she replied, almost shakily.[break][break]

”I love you, Gunner.”

Eris's attempts to quall Summer's fury were pointless. Because the inability for her to see just how terrible this situation was made it worse. Summer's jaw tightened, and she sighed in defeat, dropping her head down.[break][break]

"You don't have to tell me everything if you don't want to... but not everything is your fault, Eris."[break][break]

Releasing her hand, Summer scooted to the end of the bed and stood up. She rubbed her forehead with one hand, thinking before letting out another long breath.[break][break]

"What do you want to eat? We have anything you want or could want here."

There was a feeling in her chest, like a butterfly trying to escape, when he stated he trusted her. Summer bit the inside of her lip, looking at his features with earnest as he went on to speak.[break][break]

And Kanto was brought up. Summer wasn't ever near Kanto when the war had taken place, but she'd seen footage of it. The wreckage, the destruction. She remember her father talking about it, how Rocket should have done better despite everything that happened. The change of power was a shame, in his eyes.[break][break]

It made a pit of guilt form in her stomach, one she tried to bury as she listened to him. Summer reached up, smoothing her thumbs across his jawline to focus him on her again.[break][break]

"I don't want you to think I'm disregarding that part of your life. I'm proud of you for having served, even though it caused a great stress on you. But you're here now. And I will do anything in my power to make your life one you deserve. I will do anything to make you happy, Gunner."[break][break]

Summer spoke earnestly and truthfully. "If you ever have to wake me up because of Kanto, or it's interfering with your life, I will be there to fight it for you."

Summer allowed him to tilt her face up and brush away the tears, sniffing like a child. She couldn't help but give a small laugh when he spoke about his mother.[break][break]

"She sounds wise." She wondered what her own mother would have said.[break][break]

Wiping away the rest of her tears, she sat up straighter, though she kept herself planted on his lap. Summer placed her hands on his shoulders, brushing her thumbs over his neck tenderly as she looked at him.[break][break]

Summer turned, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying herself in his shirt. Losing herself in a moment of vulnerability and grief as she wept in Gunner's arms.[break][break]

Summer nodded. For a moment, she was silent. Thrown back several months ago when she was standing in front of her father with a gun in hand, asking for his final words.[break][break]

She closed her eyes before she spoke to Gunner again. "He was strict. And he was cruel. Did you know that I have a younger brother? knox prescott? My father practically disowned him from our family because of life style choices. He wanted nothing to do with him."[break][break]

Summer felt his lips against her shoulder, and she leaned against him, savoring his presence. "I had to protect Knox, when I figured out the truth. That my father was brainwashing me. I had no childhood. When my father decided I was the next to take over the company, I was thrown into classes and etiquette to become the ideal business woman."

Summer felt their tension and intimacy cease, popping like a balloon when Gunner brought the conversation back to the beach. It deflated her a bit, but it was her fault. Maybe she should have said it.[break][break]

"I used to, when my father was in charge of the company. I don't have a lot of time for myself now, though," she admitted with a gulp of wine.[break][break]

Summer herself took a sip of wine, daintily eating here and there as she listened to Gunner speak. She looked over at him, practically beaming, as he gushed about their vacation that had just started.[break][break]

Reaching over, despite both of them having eaten something, she reached for his chin, his jaw, and pulled him closer. To kiss him. It was sweet and intimate, fueled by something that was new in her. "I..."[break][break]

Gunner's words touched her heart in a way she didn't expect it to. Summer felt her cheeks warm up for a moment, though she tried to hide their redness by appearing busy for a moment or two.[break][break]

What's with him and the sweet compliments? She could kiss him right now, if they weren't busy getting ready to head downstairs.[break][break]

The trek to the sand was a short one, since her home was beachfront. The expanse of sand and the ocean was a private strip she owned, fenced around the sides so no one was allowed to come in. And it gave her privacy as well.[break][break]

"I think this is it. We can settle right here."[break][break]

Her staff was there to set things up, placing their meal on their large blanket and providing wine for them to drink. Summer thanked them, their cue to disappear. She settled on one side, waiting for Gunner to join her.[break][break]

Summer found herself visiting Elisabeth Fiorelli in her friend's flower shop. Was it probably a bad idea? Of course. She was susceptible to the pollen that liked to find itself around this time of year, and being around flowers that were probably ready to pollinate?[break][break]

She could imagine her allergies were going to have a fit about it later.[break][break]

But she wanted to join her companion for tea and speak to her about several things. Namely, Gunner Graves. There weren't many women that Summer considered herself friends with, and Elisabeth was one she felt she could trust, not to mention she valued her input.[break][break]

Sitting quietly as she enjoyed a cup of tea, she hummed as Elisabeth handled the dealings of a customer before they left. "I'm glad your business has flourished, Elisa."

Summer chuckled, sipping her drink with a dainty air before she spoke. "On a much needed vacation. I have a home here in Lilycove, so I decided a trip to the beach would be nice."[break][break]

A pause. "Though it's hard for me to relax. Work is always on the back of my mind."[break][break]

Another sip. Summer turned her gaze to the woman who so contrasted her in appearance: all fiery and warm toned while she was cool and blue. Raising an eyebrow, she rested her chin on her hand as she propped herself by her elbow on the counter, tapping her chin.[break][break]

The fact that he wasn't listening didn't bother Summer much, since she was speaking about the company. Her company, now. But, she could tell with each sentence, he was slipping further and further away, lost in his thoughts as he stared at his ring on his finger.[break][break]

She was behind a lot of their news. Since trying to repair her relationship with her brother, she tried to keep in touch. But it was hard to stay in touch when effort wasn't put in on either part.[break][break]

She was still a kid. She'd been through this much already. It was unfair. Summer understood a lot of what she experienced, having no childhood of her own. And she couldn't stand by this.[break][break]

"Eris," she stopped her, her tone serious and firm. Summer's gaze never lost its concern for her, but her voice changed.[break][break]

"From what I heard, you almost died. Stop speaking lightly of such an event! I don't care if they patched you up and you're feeling better. It shouldn't have happened in the first place. You deserve so much better than a world of pain and suffering!"[break][break]

Summer's hand that didn't reach to hold onto Eris's own balled into a fist, angry and frustrated. "What happened?"
