BARNABY FINCH rolled his eyes as Caleb Harcourt replied, all spit and venom. In the admin's estimation, the other man wasn't playing his part very well in public at all. Roaming eyes and ears could easily misconstrue what was happening between them.[break][break]

The animosity was tiring, so Barnaby ended the conversation with a lazy, "Sure. Of course you do."[break][break]

Didn't they all?[break][break]

MELMETAL was a testament to Barnaby's own motivation to protect. Not people, necessarily, but his best interests. The Pokémon was a stalwart defense against many threats; in a way, this tournament was simply a test of its limits.[break][break]

Though the metal titan could not completely dodge Lyra's TERA BLAST, its trunk-like arms converged to block most of the attack. In return, it struck out with a THUNDER PUNCH.[break][break]

Speed was MELMETAL's downfall, that much had become obvious over the course of the tournament. It was not a Pokémon meant to compete with those that moved with elegance and grace. It was a stalwart defender.[break][break]

That was where it thrived. And so when the PSYCHO CUT came its way, this time it erected its SPIKY SHIELD in time, sending steel spines jutting forward to injure IRON VALIENT.[break][break]

"Don't let it dance away~!"[break][break]

MELMETAL didn't stop there. Invigorated by Barnaby's order, it smashed its fists into the court below its feet, creating fissures all around and breaking off huge slabs of cement. Taking these between its iron clutches, it'd hurl concrete at Roland to try and bridge the gap between speed and power.[break][break]

PALKIA emerged from its rift, sending the already chaotic landscape into a dizzying, destructive freefall. THEO BECKETT's call for retreat was a more than reasonable decision.[break][break]

"Go. Join squadron three and regroup at the rallying point." He instructed, dropping Steven Campbell off behind an erected STONE EDGE boulder. They'd gone over all of this before joining the battle. He had confidence that the grunt would make it out of this alive.[break][break]

In the meantime, comms were buzzing in Barnaby's ear, with one thread of conversation standing out from the rest. Zev Harcourt questioning Flint, Lulu Flint sprinting toward the chasm, and a familiar LAPRAS approaching her.[break][break]

BARNABY FINCH whipped his GENESECT around to follow. When he arrived Barnaby alighted from his Pokémon and placed himself between the two, though he was noticeably closer to his ROCKET compatriot.[break][break]

"Shouldn't you be focusing on your own safety? Leave." Caleb Harcourt would recognize the way Barnaby's voice bristled, despite being distorted as it was behind the mask. [break][break]

Glancing over his shoulder, Admin Bee directed his next order to Lulu Flint, "Whatever you're doing can wait until after the threat has passed. We can't afford to lose anyone else right now." [break][break]

There was little time between order and execution. Barnaby bolted toward the concrete barrier at the side of the elevated highway and vaulted over. From behind, Aurelie Lefevre might have been startled at the sudden suicidal jump.[break][break]

The villager ran off, though Barnaby guessed it was only partly due to the Avatar's inhuman display. Crystals hardened across Zev's body at the real threat: a SPECTRIER trotting over, though it left no hoofprints in the snow.[break][break]

"I do." Barnaby stood unhurriedly, brushing powder from his pants. "They're very proud creatures. Unyielding until you've proven your strength."[break][break]

Out of the corner of his eye the admin noticed a barrel with its lid slightly ajar. [break][break]

"Or if you have the right treat." Plucking a carrot from the container, he then approached the spectral horse slowly yet confidently, with the vegetable held outward for SPECTRIER to take.

BARNABY FINCH supposed he'd have to try at least a little bit, then, if he was going to make something out of this match. [break][break]

But he knew it wouldn't be easy. Navy wasn't a pushover by any means, like other competitors had been. The annoying Marianne Lovelace came to mind.[break][break]

"Block it—" He attempted to warn, but the IRON VALIENT was lightning-quick. Before MELMETAL could even set up its SPIKY SHIELD, the TERA BLAST connected and did big damage, as evidenced by the sizzling hiss of energy warping metal upon contact.[break][break]

MELMETAL's counter was more reflexive than innately trained. Pain motivated its DOUBLE IRON BASH, using Roland's now close proximity to its advantage.[break][break]

That was one of Barnaby's favorite things: weaving a web of his own creation in a way that bent information to his benefit. It was one of the many reasons he kept up the ruse of BARNABY FINCH, HNN broadcast journalist.[break][break]

Another was to interact anonymously in mundane ways like this one, especially with others in positions of power. Navy more than qualified.[break][break]

Barnaby lobbed a Luxury Ball onto the field, revealing his MELMETAL. The titan clanged its fists together upon seeing Navy's IRON VALIENT, ready for its next brawl.[break][break]

The futuristic CYCLIZAR he rode was not meant to be ducking out of alleyways. This Pokémon was augmented for speed, and that was exactly what BARNABY FINCH was going to exploit.[break][break]

"Try to keep up!" The admin yelled back over his shoulder to a nearby Aurelie Lefevre, straddling her own CYCLIZAR.[break][break]

Together they would weave in and out of traffic, dodging TECHNO BLASTS along the way. Knowing the this was a simple simulation, BARNABY FINCH had little inhibition in the way he guided his mount — it was almost as if he was playing one of those videogames Steven Campbell had mentioned in passing.
