Izzy couldn't have related to doing good for Hoenn. He didn't have a connection to the region in the way he would have liked to. In other circumstances, it would have been the place he moved to escape all the shit in his old life, to finally settle down. But right now, it was just the place where Rocket had it's firm grip remaining around him. From the frying pan into the fire, he supposed.[break][break]

"Yeah... well... y'know, dream or not, don't give up on it. Maybe you'll get some old classic someday. Then you can bring it round, or whatever" As Derek gets up, Izzy takes his hand and shakes it.[break][break]

"Thanks, man, you too" He gives him half a smile before the room begins to shuffle and switch again.[break][break]

Well... if everyone else here was like Derek, maybe things wouldn't be too stressful.

Despite Myszko's puppy-dog eyes that beg for a hand to innocently chew on, he's shoo-ed away and hisses a little before retiring back beneath the table.[break][break]

"Oh, yeah, I heard the pay's shitty - especially considering you guys do all kinds of stuff, right? Sucks to like, put yourself in danger and then get pennies back for it" He shrugs - Izzy knows well enough how crap it can be to have no money. Part of him wants the chastise the League for not respecting the rangers enough to pay them better, but he doesn't want to seem suspicious.[break][break]

"I'm a mechanic, mostly freelance. Cars and bikes and stuff." Izzy remembers the stupid joke he made about Magnemites with his previous date and cringes a little bit. "So, y'know, ever need something fixed up, I'm around"

He can't help but feel a little scolded as she doubles down on wanting to share her tea with him. She's motherly in a way he can't really relate to, considering his own mother wasn't so much scolding as she was nasty, and wasn't so much wry and teasing as she was... mostly not there at all.[break][break]

"If I found your company distasteful, I would say so."[break][break]

Izzy had no way of corroborating this, of course - she could easily be lying. But to be told that his presence was okay in no uncertain terms was quite relieving, and he settled a little in his seat as he took the cup and saucer she had so delicately served. It felt a little wrong to be partaking in all this fancy politeness - Izzy had always considered himself by far more a gutter rat than a member of high society.[break][break]

"Yeah, I, uh, guess you don't need to know people's names most of the time with this kinda stuff." He makes specific care not to drink until she does. He's not worried about poison or anything, though that would be more realistic considering her occupation; but instead just doesn't want to embarrass himself by missing some important rule or something.[break][break]

"I'm... Izzy. Thanks-" He takes the sweet treat without fighting back, well aware at this point that his complaining would be useless. "The hell is this thing, some little cake?" Forever that blunt mouth betraying his lower class - he can't help but be self conscious of the way the words leave his mouth.[break][break]

Izzy turns the madeleine in his fingers for a second before looking to Elisabeth and then back, popping it gently in his mouth. The sweet little cake tasted delicious, far better than his cheap shit at home, and flavoured with loving care. "Oh, wow"[break][break]

Lawenda, meanwhile, takes delight in the meringues flavoured after her namesake, far less willing to destroy Elisabeth's hard floral work now that her appetite's been sated.[break][break]

"This place is really great, by the way. All the... flowers and stuff. I don't know the first thing about gardens and shit, but- looks like hard work."

Huh. Maybe it was the fact that this guy didn't seem to want to, like, eat him alive or something; or maybe it was the fact that Rotom powered toys really did sound cool as shit, but Izzy felt himself relax in a way he hadn't during the previous match-up.[break][break]

"Oh, yeah? That's cool as shit." He says, having the confidence now to actually look at the guy opposite him.[break][break]

Izzy craved control too, insomuch as he craved being controlled - perhaps it was the reason that, despite his guilt, he stuck with Rocket for so long and past so many of his moral boundaries. He needed someone to tell him what to do, where to go, and when. It gave him moments of release. When left alone to his own devices, things piled up, he couldn't think of what else to do with himself.[break][break]

The fact that Bee had so forcefully and calmly let him know that he wasn't going anywhere, despite the stress it caused, let slip a tiny sigh of relief from Izzy's lips. His hand is taken as Bee guides him to the couch to sit down. As he takes the éclair, he can't help but smile just a tiny bit.[break][break]

"I..." He begins to complain, but lets go with a simple "...okay, thanks. But I can help when I'm done eating"[break][break]

He takes a bite and Myszko scrabbles up the couch to rest his head on Izzy's lap. As Bee goes back over the space, the subconscious in the back of Izzy's mind thinks of the last time he was sitting on a couch next to Barnaby. His head swirls for a second. I'll stop teasing then.[break][break]

Izzy physically startles when Bee speaks again, pulled back from getting lost in not-so-distant memories.[break][break]

"Wh-- huh?-- cleaning supplies? Uh... I got like, a cloth under the sink, and I usually just kinda... get it wet. Got a little bit of bleach under there too but last time I used that I nearly gassed myself" Was there more shit that Izzy needed? What kind of other cleaning stuff was there?[break][break]

By the time he gets to where the carrots were planted, stars spread across the clear sky. It's a nice site - the light pollution from places like Slateport and Mauville made it hard to see the stars as clearly as this. Yet another reason why Mt. Pyre was a calming place.[break][break]

Despite the atmosphere, though, he couldn't help but feel watched on the ascent. It's not an entirely uncommon feeling, considering the amount of curious ghosts that made their home up here, but Izzy stayed aware of it nonetheless, just in case.[break][break]

As he harvests the carrots, judging them as finished growing by the size of their leaves. He pulls them free and looks around, feeling those eyes once again on his back. The stars still shiny like they did before, in exactly the same places. In fact, nothing about anything seems to have changed, nor time passed. Mist piles in around and floats around his ankles, and Izzy looks up to a chilling sight.[break][break]

A figure of a horse floats hauntingly in the mist, maybe ten feet away from him. He stands stock-still - this was no mere wild pokémon. It approaches half-silently, and before Izzy has a chance to say anything, it fades away into the mist once more.[break][break]

He waits for a second, wondering if it was just his imagination, but the haunting atmosphere still stays. The horse is still here. [break][break]

Hesitating for just a moment, Izzy holds out a carrot to the empty air.[break][break]

"I think... this is for you."

A deep breath parts Izzy's lips as his next partner takes a seat. His previous date - was it a date? It was more like a conversation, really - with BARNABY FINCH had gone pretty much as bad as it could've, panic attack notwithstanding. So, surely, things could only get better. Right?[break][break]

Izzy gives him a polite nod as he sits beside him, placing a little Sobble on the table. Myszko, Izzy's Salandit, sits on the floor under the table between Izzy's feet, sniffing at the air as he can smell the water-type just above.[break][break]

"Hey- uh, not a lot, honestly. I got signed up by someone else, so, uh..."[break][break]

He pauses, then speaks up again. "Oh-, uh, what about you? You lookin' for a date or something?" Just saying the word date brings pink to his cheeks.

He sighs, running a hand through his hair. Nervousness had gotten the better of him by miles, and it was embarrassing and aggravating - he hadn't even wanted to go to this stupid thing anyways. On the one hand, the night was young, and things might only get better, but on the other hand, this might be the high point of a night that only gets worse.[break][break]

Either this Finch guy was really good at acting chill, or he was used to the kind of awkward nervousness that Izzy exhibited, because he didn't seem to care too much. Izzy opens his mouth to say something else but is cut off by the bell signifying it was their time to move on to the next eligible bachelor.[break][break]

Izzy takes his hand hesitantly and gives it a solid, single shake. "Right... yeah, you too. Seeya 'round"[break]
Ugh. He sure hoped not. If luck was a kind force, it would make it so Izzy never met this guy again.[break][break]

As his partner turns and walks off, Izzy can't help but stare. His eyebrows knit into a frown. Adieu. It sounded so much like Bonjour Izzy and Izzy, mon chou. Kalosian, obviously, but there was something in the voice, in the accent, in the way it was said. It sounded familiar. Painfully so - not like someone from the TV.[break][break]

He shakes it off and goes to find the next person he's deigned to ruin the evening of.

Izzy can't help but widen his eyes a little as his date for the moment begins to laugh. There's an immediate reaction of oh god, he's laughing at me, but the laugh felt genuine. He pushes the worry away and forces a little smile back, surprised at how easily it comes. Maybe he really did know this guy from elsewhere?[break][break]

"O-oh. Right, yeah, that... makes more sense" He internally facepalms at how obvious it seems, and how immature it makes his original answer seem. "I guess I'm mostly not here for business, then. Unless someone wants to hire me..." He trails off in thought at the idea - maybe someone's car broke down on the way here? A quick buck'd be nice to go home with![break][break]

Raising a brow at just how ridiculously self-confident Finch is, Izzy leans in a little onto his elbows on the table. "Oh, I'm a mechanic. I work on bikes and stuff, cars, sometimes a Magnemite or two. N-not three, though, that'd-- that'd be a Magneton... ha..."[break][break]

At his own... joke? Statement? Attempt at some cutesy wordplay? Whatever the fuck that ways, Izzy makes a face that suggests he's fighting off the instinct to douse himself in oil and light a match. Did he seriously just say that? Oh my god.[break][break]

"...Uh. What's your... favourite colour?"[break][break]

The sun was already getting low as Izzy made yet another trek up the mountain. He'd made this journey so frequently recently that he could probably do it blindfolded. To soothe his ghost pokémon, to have some alone time, and to plant some carrots. The latter was what he was focused on today.[break][break]

It had been a decent amount of time since he'd planted and watered them, keeping an eye every so often, sometimes with luka chêne , sometimes just on his own. It had made for a meditational new hobby, just wandering up and offering some water to the little carrotlings as they grew. It was kinda nice to care for something and watch it sprout a little more each time he returned.[break][break]

With Mara at his side, he continues to climb as the setting sun spreads shadows of trees across the floor.
