Ahead of Zev, a strangely-colored Dhelmise rose out of a nearby lake. He'd never seen one so red before, with its kelp-like strands reminiscent of spilt blood. [break][break]

He nodded at his Kecleon, who waddled forward before unleashing a plume of BURNING JEALOUSY at the ghostly anchor. An unearthly scream emanated from the wild Pokémon, who lashed out with POWER WHIP. [break][break]

A well-aimed ANCIENT POWER smashed into the Dhelmise's eye, temporary blinding him. Zev took that opportunity to throw a Safari Ball.

When presented with their "training," most of the gathered Rockets exchanged glances, some more uncertain than others. One did not, however. Hitoshi moved with such conviction, and without any hesitation, that it startled some of his peers. [break][break]

Zev watched with a critical eye as one of the other grunts tried to grab Hitoshi's arm and stop him with a, "Wait! We don't know—" [break][break]

But the S.P.E.C.T.R.A. agent ignored her and carried out the bloody deed. [break][break]

Neither Zev nor the other leaders of Team Rocket knew what Ruination exactly entailed. The lack of information frustrated him, but he got the impression from conversations with Elisabeth Fiorelli that she did not know, either. [break][break]

That perhaps she and jayden cross were merely ignorant vessels. [break][break]

"You're right. Fortunately, this is just a training exercise." [break][break]

Still, a dreadful atmosphere descended upon the underground facility as a wormhole opened above the gathered humans and their Pokémon. Zev's shard of Necrozma emerged from the gash in space-time, scanning its surroundings with the keen eyes of a predator seeking prey. [break][break]

Elisabeth Fiorelli and Wo-Chien stepped forward and began their assault. As the POISON GAS spewed forth, the Necrozma shard remained high above it to blast the Ruinous Beast with SIGNAL BEAM. [break][break]

Zev was peering down the sight of an assault rifle when Yuan's comment drew his attention. Putting down the gun, Zev walked over to inspect the loose part indicated by the scientist. [break][break]

At Hitoshi's warning, a few of the grunts exchanged uneasy glances, then bowed out of the group to approach fern delaney and Tapu Koko instead. Zev didn't care. Either way, Team Rocket shaped their agents into whatever tools they needed them to be. [break][break]

"The rest of you," Zev addressed the remaining grunts, including Hitoshi, "come with me." [break][break]

He turned and began a short walk up Sootopolis' modest beach, toward the warehouses lined up near the docks. Many of them stored supplies essential for the upcoming conquest, but one had been set aside for an entirely different purpose. [break][break]

While the hacker assigned to assist him typed away at his laptop, Zev stood directly across from the captured League official. [break][break]

Instead, he summoned the source of his strength. As he leaned his hands upon the interrogation table, black crystals spread across his skin, turning blunted fingers into wicked claws. [break][break]

Disguised as his civilian alter ego, Zev strode down the main trail of the Safari Zone, his Zoroark-as-Obstagoon padding after him. Accompanying them was a Pokémon the man rarely used, a Kecleon. While his Zoroark maintained their illusions, Kecleon would do the actual fighting. [break][break]

Work for Team Rocket had grown even more demanding ever since his promotion to God General. Zev didn't mind the work itself; he'd once been a low-ranking officer in the Kanto Army and knew what preparing for war entailed. And where he'd once suffered under the demands of hierarchy, now he was equal to the underbosses. [break][break]

It did mean, however, that all manner of people were demanding Zev's attention. This trip to the Safari Zone was a brief respite from all the grunts, associates, executives, and leadership who needed to talk to him. He knew he couldn't ignore them forever, but he could at least ignore them for the moment. [break][break]

And that was more than enough.
