Nomi frowned, trying to recall if she knew anything about Head Ranger ollie morales. Nothing particularly noteworthy came to mind. It wasn't that Nomi didn't consider the League elite worth learning about: it was more that she simply had far more pressing matters to attend to, such as figuring out the whereabouts of the DRK Triad's agents.[break][break]
She could see the amicable expression on his face now that their ships were so close, and she narrowed her eyes in suspicion. Did he really intend to carry out a peaceful meeting with her? She had not yet encountered a member of the League government willing to try such a tactic. Many were as keen on bloodshed as some of her own Rocket peers seemed to be.[break][break]
Which, naturally, was a waste.[break][break]
Very well, she could easily find out his true intentions.[break][break]
In an instant, she teleported onto his ship, appearing right next to him. Kallistatus blipped into existence by her shoulder, staring Ollie down with its singular eye.[break][break]
"You may call me The Visionary," she answered pleasantly. "And I would very much like to reach that island."

Maybe parker jones was rubbing off on her, because Nomi almost gloated. The stunned look on Greyson's face was comical: mouth hanging open, eyes as wide as saucers, arms flailing until a hand clamped down on her shoulder. The sudden contact, initiated by him, caused her to jerk back slightly, cheeks reddening beneath her mask. She regained her composure more quickly than he did, however. When he finally gathered himself, and asked the question she knew he would, she was ready for it.[break][break]
"You asked for proof. Here it is," she waved her hand at the Unown. They gathered together, and in the center between them, shimmering blue crystals blossomed, forming into a bust of Nisa Holo. "DRK Triad agent Nisa Holo tried to kill me a few weeks ago, in an attempt to prevent me from becoming the Avatar of the Unown." Nomi paused. "As you can see, she failed."[break][break]
Holo's voice - perfectly reconstructed - echoed throughout the interdimensional space.[break][break]

"I'm afraid your abomination of a world is beyond saving now."

The Unown pulsed, and Holo faded away. Nomi turned to look at her guest, crimson gaze scrutinizing.[break][break]
"These Unown are loyal to me now, not the DRK Triad. Kallistatus - " Nomi pointed at the blue Unown-K that hovered directly next to her, separate from the others. " - once belonged to Holo, but switched sides when it realized how little she cared for it and its kin."[break][break]
The Unown swirled again, and this time, the blue crystals they'd summoned darkened into a sickly black void. Within them, a vague outline of Hoenn - the region map - could be seen, slowly decaying away into nothingness: the promise of ruination.[break][break]
"The Unown call me the Visionary, Greyson Connors - and I have seen many things already. A terrible fate awaits Hoenn if we continue to focus all of our energy on personal grudges. I'm not telling you to set aside your differences with Rocket. I'm merely asking you to acknowledge the bigger picture."

The swiftness of Nenet's Hatterene saved them from an untimely death by poison, and Nomi heaved a sigh of relief as she watched the parent Poipole reel backwards from the force of the psychic attack. Before it could retaliate, the Hatterene Mega-Evolved, further asserting herself as a fierce protector of her own wards.[break][break]
"It's possible," Nomi answered Nenet. Though her heart was hammering from the initial surprise of the hatching eggs, her voice came out calm and even: she was a seasoned authority figure within Team Rocket, very little could truly rattle her these days.[break][break]
"If we can lead it away from the newborns, we may be able to subdue it more easily."[break][break]
Nomi whistled for Datura, and the Nihilego was at her side in an instant. Noticing the Poipole, the ethereal jellyfish began to glow with a crackling energy. A tendril of THUNDER shot out towards the Poipole, enticing it to battle. With a screech, the angry parent launched itself away from the nest and towards the opposing Ultra Beast. As Nomi watched, she realized that this would give the Mega-Hatterene the perfect opportunity to strike the Poipole from behind.

Navy had been full of a righteous heroism ripe for manipulating, any animosity towards Rocket swiftly set aside when the bait of a larger threat was dangled in front of him. lam logan had been too humble for Nomi to stoke his ego, but open-minded enough that it hadn't mattered. This man, however, held tight to his principles like they were made of gold. His hatred of Rocket was a palpable thing, a dark history fraught with betrayal.[break][break]
She would not win this man over easily. She might not win him over at all.[break][break]
But there was one thing she could do.[break][break]
"Proof," she echoed, ignoring his speech about the League's merit. Neither side was blameless. No government was perfect. She knew for a fact there were members of the League as monstrous as some of her own colleagues. She'd seen for herself through the eyes of her Unown.[break][break]
"Okay. I'll give you something tangible, Greyson Connors," she agreed, finally realizing who this man was - up close, the contours of his face were familiar enough to accurately pinpoint. Elite Four were often televised, their names splashed across newspaper headings.[break][break]
Without giving him any time at all to react, she reached out and grabbed his arm. Summoning the power of Kallistatus, and all of the Unown that were bound to her (mind, body, soul), she yanked Greyson and his Pheromosa right out of Hoenn and into an entirely different plane of existence.[break][break]

"Welcome to the Unown Dimension," she announced pleasantly. She glanced at him, knowing the transfer would leave him in a temporarily disoriented state. "Did you know that the Unown are the oldest living creatures? Save for Arceus, of course."[break][break]
All around them, the Rocket Unown - the entirety of the alphabet - began to swirl and dance in unison amidst a backdrop of purple and blue galaxies full of winking stars.

"We aren't the only Avatars," Nomi laughed, though there was a somewhat forlorn cast to her gaze. How much easier it would be if his "us against the world" attitude had merit. "We need to rally the others to our cause. And not just them - there are other powerful men and women on both sides, talented trainers and skilled leaders, who will be critical in the war to come. You need to help me recruit them."[break][break]
One face in particular came to mind, then - because of course it did - and Nomi felt her chest ache. Wars had costs, she knew. Just because they all might finally be fighting for the right reasons didn't make it any less safe. Any less tragic. Any less painful.[break][break]
"Parker's angry with me," she admitted softly, an abrupt change of subject. "She wants me to stay away from you, because of Cillian. Because of Walsh. She doesn't get it. The DRK Triad, Arceus, all of it." Nomi clenched her fists, frustrated. "It's not that she isn't smart enough to make sense of it. It's just...she's afraid. She doesn't want anything to happen to me."[break][break]
And could Nomi blame her? A sudden vision of Parker's broken and bleeding body, a useless arm that would never function quite right ever again, a toxic wasteland of a battlefield that had claimed so much of their joy. That had not been real (or had it?), but the horrible memory was as clear and crisp as ever.[break][break]
She almost asked him about Cygne, but instead she murmured a different question, even as the emotion drained from her body, leaving only a softness that was neither pitiful nor heartening.[break][break]

"Yes, the illumina phenomenon can be found in the wild. It is rare, but possible."[break][break]
She glanced down at Valerian. Though he was technically glowing, it was harder to see beneath the fluorescent lights of the lecture hall. It would be much more obvious were they standing in a dimly lit room.[break][break]
"In many cases, a Pokemon that already belongs to someone will encounter the right, hm, conditions to become affected by illumina energy. My Valerian here did not start off this way, but began to emit the illumina glow after we had a particularly intense experience inside of a powerful space-time distortion."[break][break]
She smiled pleasantly, as if it were perfectly normal to find one's self inside of such an anomaly.[break][break]
"In any case, why do you ask? Are you hoping to acquire such a Pokemon?"

The depths of the ship were a dark, dreary, claustrophobic expanse of stacked boxes and debris...until the space opened up into what Nenet's flashlight revealed to be...[break][break]
A nest?[break][break]
Nomi's jaw dropped, and she gasped in awe. Never before had she seen such an intricate network of Pokemon egg clutches, stacked one after another throughout the entirety of the storage chamber. Why, there had to be dozens, if not hundreds - [break][break]
Where there are eggs, there are likely protective parents, Nomi thought, but before she could voice her realization, Nenet grabbed her and dragged her over to the nearest collection of eggs. The other woman's excitement was palpable, and Nomi couldn't help but smile even as the faint sound of warning bells chimed in the back of her subconscious.[break][break]
"They are! The deep purple color is quite beautiful, isn't it? Reminds me of..."[break][break]
- A toxic sludge coating the ground, seeping into what should be holy baths of heroic purity - [break][break]
"...poison."[break][break]
A crack. Then another. The eggs were wobbling - quivering - shaking. Tiny forms began to emerge, the same venomous purple as the broken shells. Their forms were vaguely familiar, and Nomi tried to pinpoint exactly what they looked like, even as she jumped back to give them space...[break][break]
Datura hissed a warning. Nomi whirled around, and found herself face-to-face with a fully grown Poipole, its saucer-like baby-blue eyes glaring at her angrily.[break][break]
The babies were Poipole. Yes, that's what they looked like. And now Mamma had arrived...

"Is this ongoing conflict the cause of the instability, or does the instability necessitate an ongoing conflict?" Nomi asked softly, in response to Isaac's existential inquiry. The Torchic or the egg, which came first?[break][break]
Isaac was correct, however: it was too late to waste time on trying to answer that question. The Triad's minds were made up: they would destroy the Origin Point and everyone in it, and there was no going back from that decision. Nomi had seen the look in Holo's eyes when she'd threatened to end their lives - it was pure, unfiltered, unshakeable resolve.[break][break]
They are zealots, Nomi thought. Which was the most dangerous type of enemy a person could face: faith was a shield stronger than any metal.[break][break]
Isaac made a suggestion she hadn't yet considered, and she paused. Our own people, he'd said. Who were they, exactly? League and Rocket? Or some strange hybrid of the two, cherry-picked individuals. Was she still "one of his people"? She dare not ask for confirmation, though the fact that they were still only mere inches apart seemed to suggest - to hint - that she might be. The possibility was enough.[break][break]
"It's probably futile to suggest you stay away from tempting fate," she murmured, a small smile spreading across her lips. He might be the Liberator now, but he would still be Blackjack, now and forever: trickster, jokester, survivor. "If you intend to speak to other Rockets besides me, please be careful."[break][break]
Too many of her colleagues held onto grudges like they were million dollar bills.[break][break]
She glanced out at the horizon, the swirl of colors threatening a sunset, as if searching amongst the clouds might reveal some hidden tidbit of information about Arceus.[break][break]
"Well, if it is the end of reality we'll be facing," she murmured, finally, ripping her eyes away from the sky and back to him. "Then it will be up to me to protect it. Perhaps you've noticed - I've got some measure of control over reality now." She nodded at Kallistatus, eyes shining bright. "The Unown have tasked me with "seeing to our end." I refuse to let Arceus decide what will happen to us, Isaac. The Triad seems afraid of the outcome should Arceus perceive us, so I will find it and force it to perceive me. I'm not going down without a fight."[break][break]
She had a feeling he would understand the sentiment.

A powerful sheet of ice coated the Rocket vessel, the force of the blast causing it to rock violently backwards into the waves. Nomi caught herself on a railing, salt water splashing against her cheeks. Her eyesight switched from Kallistatus back to her own crimson eyes, a jarring change of perspective.[break][break]
Come in peace? That hadn't felt particularly peaceful...[break][break]
"WHO comes in peace?" She yelled back, as loud as she could, hoping her small voice would carry across the wind.[break][break]
The League ship was next to them now, close enough that she could make out the man and his Pikachu with her own eyes. Kallistatus blipped back to her side, appearing out of thin air. Noticing the Gastrodon responsible for the ice, Nomi unclipped a Pokeball from her waist and released Dandelion. The Clodsire would watch over the ship from beneath the water, putting her on equal footing with the Head Ranger.[break][break]
Whether he was friend or foe remained to be seen.

Nomi laughed, musical and amused, ignoring the slight shock of realizing she'd never actually considered such a possibility before.[break][break]
"I don't think so," she answered, keeping her voice even. Confident. "It's never happened before."[break][break]
Surely Kallistatus would be able to un-stick her, should such a thing actually happen (right?).[break][break]
She stepped up to the Unown-A and held out her hand in a friendly gesture. It floated closer, and she focused on it. She reached out with her mind, probing at it, attempting to connect like she could with the Rocket Unown or Kallistatus. For a moment, nothing happened...[break][break]
Her eyes flashed a stark white, and her vision changed. Instead of looking at the Unown-A, she saw her own face through its singular eye. Mussed pastel pink hair, flushed cheeks, dark circles under pupil-less eyes, a brow furrowed with focus. She smiled, wide and delighted.[break][break]
"It worked!" She exclaimed. "How fascinating. This is very useful data, Marcus. It means that, perhaps, I can do the same thing to the DRK Triad's Unown...which are Unown I'd very much like to win over to our side."[break][break]
It occurred to her that perhaps she ought to test this on a League-owned Unown, as well. Marcus's Unown might not necessarily be bonded with her, but it was still aligned with Rocket.

As the Altaria returned to her Pokeball, Nomi let out a small sigh of relief. The man approached her, valiantly overcoming the apprehension he clearly felt in response to her somewhat cryptic statements. Nomi respected his grit, and the willingness to give her plea a chance.[break][break]
"Don't panic," she murmured, stepping forward to meet him half-way. "All you need to do is pay attention."[break][break]
She reached out her hand, and with a graceful flick of her wrist, the scenery around them began to warp and change. Eerily similar to the effects of dream mist, a hyper realistic recreation of an entirely different environment began to coalesce, the details of which were made from a shimmering blue crystal akin to Tera Crystals (and the same exact color as Kallistatus). Nisa Holo appeared, threatening in disposition, exactly as she had been in the RKS Machine when she'd attacked Nomi and Isaac Merlo. She snarled, her voice an exact recreation of the real thing, an echo of her true self:[break][break]

"Your universe is the only one that has been able to get this far. You use powers that will be the end of all of us. Powers your tiny little minds can not comprehend! Frankly, you all contribute and my job is to ensure that Arceus is blind to your faces."

The scene shifted, pixelated, the jumbled digital landscape reassembling itself. Holo attempted to seize a figure that Nomi knew to be Isaac, though she had no way of knowing if the man before her also recognized him.[break][break]

"I'm afraid your abomination of a world is beyond saving now. The only way you two can help us would be to die."

The scene froze. Then it melted away, leaving Lam and Nomi standing exactly where they had been, on the beach of a mysterious island neither of them truly understood.[break][break]
"That woman, a member of the DRK Triad named Nisa Holo, attempted to kill me - and my companion - simply because I was interested in befriending the Unown." As she spoke, Kallistatus drifted back over to her and nudged her affectionately. "That was an exact recreation of what I experienced. She and her colleagues want our world destroyed, and it won't matter what side any of us are on when it comes to their judgment. Rocket, League, it's all the same to them."[break][break]
Silence fell between them. This man did not carry an air of righteous heroism about him like Navy had; instead, he struck Nomi as far more humble. A humble man was harder to convince of a dire alternative to what he already believed threatened him: the lack of ego would keep him grounded in what he perceived as the more believable reality.[break][break]
All the same, she had to try.[break][break]
"If you don't believe me, find a man named Isaac Merlo. He will corroborate my story. Tell him the Visionary gave you a warning."

Once Nomi reached the island, she recalled Lilac. She then collapsed onto the deck of her ship, chest heaving. One last look through Kallistatus's eye confirmed that her pursuer had been bested and was turning back; she breathed a sigh of relief, then allowed herself to give into her exhaustion.[break][break]
Nomi's eyes fluttered closed, and she telepathically reached out to Kallistatus to request that it watch over her for a few minutes. She'd won that particular battle, but she'd used up quite a bit of energy in the process. She was still getting used to her powers, and did not yet know her limits.[break][break]
I will need to be careful on the island, she resolved. Things would only get more dangerous from here. Better to rest now while she could, rather than rush ahead. She had a feeling she would never every ounce of power she could muster for what lay ahead.

As Illeana began to speak, tension drained from Nomi's body. She relaxed, a fist releasing curled fingers. The League Head Scientist's words were a breath of fresh air. She clearly understood the gravity of the situation, the immense interdimensional threat all of Hoenn was facing. This would not end up being the intellectual battle Nomi had feared it would be; instead, she felt a natural kinship with Illeana, as if the two of them had always been fated to have this discussion.[break][break]
Nomi met the other woman's eyes. Nomi willed the bust of Holo to change to that of Father Winter's face. Then Maldacena. Then the nameless white-haired woman who had saved Holo from the Rocket interrogation.[break][break]
"Yes," Nomi affirmed. "And I suspect they've been around since before all that, too. They've been keeping an eye on the Origin Point for a very long time."[break][break]
She paused, then motioned for Kallistatus to come closer. The shiny Unown-K floated over to Illeana, circling around her with a curious scrutiny.[break][break]
"We have lost too much already, it is true. But, we are not helpless. There is hope, even still." She smiled, and it was a fierce thing. "The DRK Triad thinks they know everything that will transpire here, but they have been wrong more than once now, Illeana. Unexpected Avatars, for example. The Visionary, the Liberator. Titles they did not foresee."[break][break]
With a sudden shimmering burst of light, the illusory recreations of the DRK Triad members disappeared from Nomi's outstretched palm.[break][break]
"I'm telling you this because it is a priority. What if the energy here is the herald of some new legendary Pokemon, ripe for Avatarship? We need to ensure the outcome is yet another deviation, something the DRK Triad cannot manipulate. You are a brilliant mind, and Hoenn will be better off if we work together. What do you say?"

It is good to hear from you; for a moment there, it seemed as if you were no longer with us, though I have long suspected that you would return to Hoenn.[break][break]
It is something of a PARADOX, is it not? To have been a witness to your very definitive death, and yet also know that you would most certainly appear again, as you always seem to. It does cause one to wonder: are you somehow harnessing the power of DIALGA - going backwards in time, in order to alter the course of your own fate? The temporal legendary has been missing ever since the meteor nearly destroyed us.[break][break]
That being said, there are other means of manipulating various timelines. CELEBI, for example, could be aiding you. There were rumors of its death, but we both know there are many versions of each legendary Pokemon, given the multiplicity of universes within our existence. What is death, really, to a time traveling Pokemon?[break][break]
My request for Wintertide is a simple one. I want to talk. If a private venue is required, I can provide one. I want to meet in-person, and I want a chance to ask you some questions that have been plaguing me as of late. I think you can likely guess what they relate to.[break][break]
The desire to change the past is a pointless waste of time, but I will entertain you - for I understand that there is at least some wisdom in giving voice to regret (for if you don't, it almost always festers, eating away at the heart). I would change the fact that my parents died before I could ever truly get to know them. Perhaps there is a version of me in some other universe who had the privilege of knowing their love. I wonder if it ends up making any difference: perhaps they are always destined to die, but in at least some timelines, I get to know them first. Which is the greater tragedy, do you think?[break][break]
The present is a tricky thing, for it is always in a constant state of flux. Every second that passes becomes the past, and every moment not yet experienced is the future. What does it mean to truly exist between those two states? If I could change anything, it would be for all of us - League, Rocket, civilian - to stop wasting our time on conflicts that distract from the real threat we all face. You know the one, surely. Instead of throw our best resources, minds, talents, trainers at the impending apocalypse you and your peers are so keen on facilitating, we howl desperately at the moon like a frenzied LYCANROC, knowing full well it can't hear us.[break][break]
You ask about the future last, as is logical, but surely you already know what I want. I want to save Hoenn - the Origin Point - and all of its people from utter destruction. Can you blame me? The Unown have tasked me with "seeing to the end", and I am not willing to relinquish control over our fates to Arceus, if that's who's truly behind all of this.[break][break]
