Nomi let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. Relief flooded through her as the Golurk backed off, clearing the way for Nomi and Kallistatus to approach Illeana.[break][break]
"I'm here for the same reason you are," Nomi explained matter-of-factly. "I'm a scientist, and I want to study the energy beneath this island. I want to understand what's going on here."[break][break]
Her footfalls were light, but determined. She stopped a few feet from the other woman, finally close enough to really take in all of her features: long pastel hair, curious crimson eyes that matched Nomi's own, graceful curves that softened the hardened heart within. They were nearly the same age. We are so alike, Nomi realized. They had no reason to be enemies.[break][break]
"Illeana, this conflict is a distraction. A waste of our time. The real war is coming, and we need to be ready. League, Rocket, it doesn't matter. God won't discriminate when it comes to our destruction."[break][break]
Nomi held out her hand, and in her palm crystals began to form. They warped and shaped themselves into a perfect bust of Nisa Holo's head, down to the permanent scrutiny plastered across her furrowed brow.[break][break]
"Do you know this woman? Have you ever seen her? She and her colleagues are called the DRK Triad, and they - not the League - are my enemy."

Her plan was effective. Perhaps too effective.[break][break]
Nomi watched as the man's Seaking courageously - and perhaps foolishly - took the full force of Python's attack, mortally wounding itself. A pang of regret: Nomi did not necessarily want Pokemon to die. This conflict is a waste, she thought, not for the first time. Needless deaths on both sides.[break][break]
All the same, she had a mission to accomplish. As she turned her attention back to the ship's progress towards the island, an ICE BEAM collided with her Iron Jugulis, freezing it in place and knocking it unconscious. Nomi returned it to its Pokeball with hasty flick of her wrist, unbothered. With the rising crystal barrier, that should be the last attack she would need to endure from her pursuer.[break][break]
All around Thomas Benoit, a wall of Tera crystal-like material would cut off his Sharpedo. If he looked closely at the reflective surface of the barrier, he would see a myriad of otherworldly eyes staring back at him...

Why did the League have to be so stubborn?[break][break]
Isaac was right: they didn't need to fight over an island. They didn't need to allow personal vendettas and past grudges and political differences guide their decision making, divert their attention from the real enemy. Their collective enemy. The island was yet another anomaly, and if they weren't careful, the DRK Triad would swoop in and attempt to use the energy beneath it for their own selfish, enigmatic purposes: Nomi did not know what those were, but she did know that they were certainly related to Hoenn's ultimate demise.[break][break]
"This war is a needless distraction," Nomi agreed. "A waste of time and resources. The real war is coming, Isaac," she cautioned, knowing how ominous those words must sound. "I have tried to get through to some of - " (she wouldn't say your people, she couldn't, not yet) " - the League agents sent to this island: gym leaders, Elite Four, scientists. Talented individuals too skilled to be throwing themselves at a pointless conflict. But..."[break][break]
She paused, thinking of Navy. Thinking of lam logan. Thinking of Greyson Connors. Thinking of illeana reyes, most of all. Had she really convinced them? And would it end up mattering? They had so little time.[break][break]
A breeze blew between them, and Nomi shivered, feeling suddenly small.[break][break]

"I need to find Arceus," she whispered, as if in prayer. "That is the key to all of this."[break][break]

Kallistatus drifted across the open ocean, sea spray glistening on its already shining body. It appeared directly above ollie morales and his Pokemon, staring down at them with an expression akin to curiosity, its singular eye full of a laser-focused scrutiny. Through that eye, Nomi also observed the Head Ranger, recognizing him in that vaguely familiar way she recognized many of Hoenn's prominent League personalities.[break][break]
Once more, she was facing someone who ought not waste their time and energy on a pointless war with Rocket. Once more, she feared she would be delayed by misguided aggression.[break][break]
"Which will it be this time?" She wondered aloud, from her own ship, a few miles away. "A fight or a conversation?"

Nomi was tired.[break][break]
The ordeal at the Cave of Origin had left her feeling conflicted and uncertain - about jayden cross's fate, about the instability of Rocket's security (how had Chien-Pao bypassed even Walsh's protection?), and about the notable absence of the DRK Triad during the entire fiasco. Whatever the Ruinous Beasts were trying to accomplish by snaring various hosts for what was obviously a more sinister version of Avatarship - or so it seemed - ought to be catching the DRK Triad's attention: after all, Avatars were anomalies they were intent on preventing. Was there some alignment with the DRK Triad's plans for Hoenn and the enigmatic Ruination these strange Pokemon seemed to be heralding?[break][break]
Nomi didn't like any of it one bit.[break][break]
But, for now, she had a task to accomplish: studying the VIOLET BOOK she had recently acquired. A knock on her door informed her that the man she'd wanted to collaborate with first had arrived.[break][break]
"Come in, Amor," she called out to him, keeping her voice neutral. Yet another small matter that required immediate remediation: the obvious tension that had formed between herself and her co-Head Scientist recently.[break][break]
They needed to work together, if they hoped to save Hoenn from an untimely apocalyptic fate.

Into the Unown (S/Nomi)

The scenery around them began to change, and Nomi was, not for the first time, awed by the power of the Unown. She and Amor were whisked away from the Rocket Submarine, and deposited onto unfamiliar soil. She gasped softly, taking in the destruction around them: a mansion long destroyed, its storied history obviously fraught with violence. Her eyes found the statue of Dialga, and she suddenly understood - coupled with Amor's regretful words - that the Unown had somehow misinterpreted Amor's request. He might desire to find Dialga...but that was only the tip of the iceberg. The reason he wanted to find Dialga...well...[break][break]
"Where are we?" Nomi asked gently. She laid a hand upon the metallic arm of Amor, looked up at him with a curious expression. "Is this place...important to you?"[break][break]
Nomi understood the feeling of wanting to rewrite past traumas. The disappearance of her parents when she was a toddler had shaped the course of her life, for good or for ill. She now knew the cause of their deaths, and all it had done was harden her heart further. She would not fail Hoenn like they had failed Kanto.[break][break]

Despite her delicate appearance - small in stature and softened with lace - Nomi was the tenacious scientist Admin Bee knew her to be. It was for that very reason that, for several days following the acquisition of the VIOLET BOOK, she had stubbornly refused to accept the fact that she could not, for the life of her, figure out the meaning of all of the symbols on its cover no matter how hard she tried.[break][break]
Whenever she opened the book, and tried to read the interior, the language - though initially unfamiliar - morphed to reflect Hoenn's common tongue, as if the book somehow knew she needed the understand it and changed accordingly. It was the reason she'd been able to skim it quickly in the Cave of Origin prior to the appearance of the legendary Galarian trio.[break][break]
But the symbols on the cover? They were far more cryptic, and they did not change to accommodate her. Which was, naturally, infuriating.[break][break]
And so, because she was not actually a linguist - her expertise in energies, chemicals, and compounds frustratingly useless - she was forced to throw in the towel, and request the assistance of the newest Rocket Admin, howard slayte. It wasn't that Nomi disliked Howard - quite the contrary, he was brilliant - it was more that she never liked to admit defeat, especially not when it came to something academic.[break][break]
However, she was far too curious to let pride win. So it was with grace that she turned to Admin Bee, the book laid out before the three Rockets on the work table, and answered, "I have read the contents of the tome half a dozen times now. It is a collection of ancient Galarian Kingdom Tales. There are drawings of Dynamax Power Spots and those elusive Galarian birds, and several other scenes I vaguely remember...seeing before..."[break][break]
In that alternate Galar, she knew. The one she and several other Rockets had inexplicably teleported to during the recent conflict at the Ancient Tomb.[break][break]
"But the symbols on the cover...they allude me completely. Which is why I've requested the assistance of Admin Slate."[break][break]
She turned to face him. Kallistatus had drifted over to the man, and was hovering by his shoulder. She had a feeling if there was anybody in Rocket who might be as appreciative of the Unown as she was, it would be him.[break][break]
"Well? What do you make of this?"

Nomi was pleased to be back at the The Quaestor Lucis with Neffatari Nzingha, if only because their last visit had been rudely cut short and Nomi was keen on continuing to work with the astrobiologist on her Ultra Deep Sea studies. Ironically, the very reason they'd been forced to retreat was now floating next to Nomi, as ethereal and enigmatic as ever.[break][break]
Nomi had decided to call the shiny Nihilego Datura, named for the moonflower, simultaneously beautiful and terribly dangerous: one of the most poisonous plants in the world. It felt fitting.[break][break]
"This time, we'll have a Nihilego on our side," Nomi grinned, nodding her head to Nenet to indicate her readiness. It was time to begin their expedition.[break][break]
Curiously, Datura immediately began to float towards the wrecked ship - but not up onto the deck, where Nomi and Nenet had begun their last survey. Instead, it moved down and around to the other side of the ship, out of sight. Nomi hurried after, not wanting to lose track of her newly acquired Ultra Beast; when she rounded the hull, she could see Datura hovering by a massive hole in the rotting wood leading into what had once, presumably, been some kind of storage hold.[break][break]
"Is there something in there we should see?" Nomi asked, cocking her head inquisitively.[break][break]
The Nihilego bobbed up and down, then disappeared into the hole. Nomi beckoned for Nenet to follow.

She blushed - for his assessment was, at least in part, the truth of it - and though she could swallow scientific failings with a measure of pride, for some reason this made her feel stupidly, utterly foolish.[break][break]
"That's not why I want you to back off," she insisted, sucking in a breath and, with a great effort, forcing aside the indignation that threatened to bubble over. "I was just spying on you and you attacked me, I - "[break][break]
He chuckled, stunning her into silence. Worse yet, he did not take her bait. She'd hooked two of his peers, but this fish was stubborn. All the more tragic, but not entirely unexpected.[break][break]
"I understand what you think you want," she replied with a huff. "I understand that you see the presence of a Rocket on this island as a threat to the success of your mission."[break][break]
Kallistatus began to glow with a soft, rutilated white light.[break][break]
"But I do not see the League as a threat. My enemy is far greater and more complicated, and I am giving you one last chance to believe me when I say that Hoenn's survival depends on people like us setting aside petty squabbles and going our separate ways."[break][break]
She paused.[break][break]
"I can leave at any moment, and you will have no power to stop it. Talking to you is a choice I am making, because despite my initial impression, you are too talented a trainer to be ignored. Your skills are needed in the real war, the one that's coming for all of us, and God will not discriminate between League and Rocket - of that I can assure you."

Oh, Parker will kill me, came the unbidden thought, as she allowed herself to be soothed by Isaac's familiar and oh so gentle touch. And of course, he was right: she would never be alone, so long as the Unown were with her. For a girl who had spent the majority of her life abandoned by family and too brokenhearted for friendship, the greatest gift the Unown had bestowed upon her by choosing her as their Avatar was the promise of constant companionship - and the knowledge that they, too, had been waiting. Waiting so very very long.[break][break]
Waiting for someone to love them.[break][break]
She ignored his compliments - not because he was wrong to give them, but because she didn't have time to dissect them, to take them apart piece by piece and hold space for them. There was simply too much at stake to really enjoy it, which was its own tragedy.[break][break]
"The Liberator," she repeated, the rightness of it rolling off the tip of her tongue. "It's fitting." He'd betrayed Rocket by freeing a prisoner from his cage. But other signs had been there, hadn't they? Isaac was as independent as they came, the heart that beat beneath his chest had always resisted chains.[break][break]
"The Unown call me The Visionary," she answered in turn. Kallistatus bobbed beside her as if in agreement. "They showed me a vision in the Unown Dimension, when we were escaping Holo. He called her out for her aggressive approach, and Nomi had to admit: he had a point. She wasn't going to win him to her side if she continued to threaten him, even as a back-up measure. She bowed her head apologetically in classic Johto fashion, then recalled Python to its Pokeball, ending the threat of the HYPER BEAM and any subsequent attacks in one decisive action.[break][break]
Now she stood alone. Well, not alone: Kallistatus was with her. Her bond with the Unown meant that she would never truly be alone again - which was perhaps, for a girl who had spent the majority of her life alone, the greatest gift they had given her by naming her their Avatar.[break][break]
"How's that?" She asked, rhetorically of course. She glanced at the Altaria in all its Terastallized glory, wondering if he would keep his end of the supposed bargain.[break][break]
His reaction to her bold statements elicited a laugh. "You should take this information to your scientists, and they should look into it." Crimson eyes flashed with a sudden intensity. "I dearly hope they are already looking into the threat of the DRK Triad, but if they are not, right this second would be as good a time as any to begin doing so."[break][break]
She considered her options. Kallistatus stared at the man with its singular gaze, unwavering.[break][break]
"If it's proof you want, I can show you a piece of the puzzle. Not a report, but something perhaps equally persuasive." She paused. "If you are willing, of course."[break][break]
Not to sound overly ominous, but it wasn't exactly easy to digest the altering of reality.

The man was quick to avoid the poison, and the kicks of his Pheromosa were quicker still. Datura was pushed back, forced to summon a shimmering MIRROR COAT in hopes of deflecting the incoming damage. The clever bug with her nimble fighting style easily bypassed the attempt, however, due to her grit and physical power. The Nihilego keened softly, a haunting sound. Nomi sighed, realizing the mismatch in speed and typing.[break][break]
Another gym leader? She thought, frustrated.[break][break]
"I'm sick of this," Nomi muttered. Talent, wasted. Time, wasted.[break][break]
Closing her eyes, she focused on Kallistatus. In an instant, she teleported from her hiding spot amidst the TOXIC SPIKES to directly beside the man with the Pheromosa. She returned Datura to its Pokeball before speaking.[break][break]
"Hello," she greeted him pleasantly, smothering the irritation bubbling beneath the surface of her otherwise calm demeanor. "I've never seen someone wear a Comfey like that before." She cocked her head, and though the mask hid her smile, she found that she was genuinely amused. "In any case, I must ask you to call off your Ultra Beast. You're something of a nuisance, and I do not have time for it. None of us do."[break][break]
She needed to get into the cave system, find the source of energy below. The more the League acted as a barrier, the more time there would be for Nomi's real enemy to make a move.
