Due to being extremely distracted by what was going on around him, little did he realize that he’d flown into a sudden burst of fog that obscured his field of vision.

“Wha—?!” he trailed off, caught by surprise at the obscuration, before looking around wildly.

“Miss Elinor? F—Memo?! Wh—where are…?!”

And that was before forgotten images of memories, quietly lurking in the back of his mind, began rising to the forefront. As he continued to fly around aimlessly in the fog, he could hear voices. Voices echoing all around him as he looked around wildly, reacting to things that only he could see and hear.

(Unfortunately though, someone among their little traveling party would realize what’s up.)

The more he dawdled around in the fog, the more the voices got louder; at least until such time he’d found his way out, and his gaze fell on the other male travelling with them.

Strangely, or terrifyingly, rather, he was glaring Memo down.

“Why… didn’t you tell me everything?”

“You… you better get that Salamence for me,” he continued in that same quiet, but doubtful tone. Those carnival booths were fucking rigged, and he knew it!

(See: the countless times he’d tried to win one for himself whenever there was a ye olde ‘faire’ around these parts.)

Once he mentioned caramel apples—if he had Growlithe ears they would’ve perked.

“Extra caramel for me, please,” he added once they were close enough.

Their drinks sat on the table, forgotten (for now).

“Aren’t we going to go to the next bar, or something after this?” he continued a few minutes later after they pretty much stared into each other’s eyes like the blithering, blushing, bumbling lovestruck fools that they were.

“Not think so, I know so,” he corrected in that same, quiet little voice. “You know how everyone has their own inner voices and stuff, right?”

He let the silence fall between them before going on.

“…mine never sounded like that. I’m certain that… that… he’s still there. Even when I’m not doing anything, or even while I’m sleeping, I’m just…”

His brows furrow together much more than they’d ever done so far.

“I c-can hear… him in here. Up, up in here. Like… like I’m going crazy.”


timeline: close to present day. Happens several weeks after by the dawn & fly me over yesterday; definitely after Frog’s birthday so yes they’re already boyfriends by this time

He didn’t realize that his voice was going toward the hysterical.

“Haven’t you realized something—something else? I can protect myself j-just fine! I know y-you can fend for yourself, but oh my god, are you going to th-throw everything out the window? E-even if you know that I can fight on my own footing?”

He didn’t realize that his mouth was moving on its own accord.

“I know I’m weak, and afraid of death; but holy shit, d-don’t kill yourself while trying to protect me! You. You told me I’m not allowed to die! Well guess what?”

He then turned around to face the other man.

“You’re also forbidden from dying.”

He continued to look at the Wandering Stormbringer, wondering if the other could really understand human speech.

(Admittedly he’d gotten a little spoiled by the other Tornadus who talked to him previously.)

“H-honestly, I’m a-afraid. Afraid… of so many things.”

Was it alright, to speak his mind? So openly, with the small piece that was travelling with him?

“Afraid of… of losing him. I-I mean, you saw him, r-right? Like… like the life’s being drained out of him. I-I… I don’t want… how should I even say this?”

He then pinched the bridge of his nose.

“I don’t want him risking everything just to protect me! I can protect myself j-just fine!”

Just as his partner finally came around to thinking logically, he found who he was looking for—hilariously it was his male Kirlia that had the exact combination they needed.

“Hiding somewhere would be best, since I’m pretty sure that the Abra line can understand human speech. I mean, you’ve seen a Kadabra and an Alakazam, right? They can supposedly understand human speech, so…”

Running over to the terminal to retrieve the Kirlia’s Pokéball, he then popped the aptly-named Pokémon out.

“Alright… let’s go. Have to hide somewhere… and you, can hide along with the Wooloo,” he said in the Kirlia’s way, dragging along the other man so they were both out of sight.

Just how weird would the offerings get? He hoped it wouldn’t be as weird as the shit he’d seen being sold in Nimbasa, all those years ago—the expensive, sugar-dripping (which looked spiked) milk shakes, for one thing. There were also quite a number of street foods that he had survived on—

“Oh, over there!” he called out, running forward and pulling the other man along with him, stopping right in front of a shawarma food stall.

“Can we try this first?”

And out came the puppy-dog eyes of begging.

As he continued his approach, he realized something.

The one single thing he never wanted to see again had—reappeared. Was there a crack in reality nearby that they had to fix?!

“What earthquake? Are you alright, I—” he trailed off, realizing that the fucking pink mist (it looked more purple to him on this side of the room) was there once again.

“Oh, come on!” he hissed, bracing himself as he hung apprehensively on the opposite side of the room.

“Take a deep breath, Frog! It’s just, it’s just—” he continued as he realized that the longer they stayed in here, the more the mist would spread and—

Due to being triple-booked for so many challengers coming by for the badge, he had little time to go out to Rustboro and visit his friend.

(Who, surprisingly, was not the Galarian ambassador anymore. Had he gotten tired of handling diplomatic relations? Or was it because of the news that Galar had been supposedly ‘blighted’ he’d stepped down to handle more personal business? He would never know.)

So, hinging on the hope of something that his friend was free, he sent a message, with a little invitation of tea and macarons to catch up.

Yes, it had to be macarons.

And besides, the last time they actually talked was back in the hot springs… that was so long ago.

He was prepared for this.

“Since nobody wanted to teach me how to make a bow, I had to do it myself. Bow and arrows I have on me? I made it myself. I’m part of the evening watch for Hammerlocke—surely you know that is doing the same, but for the daytime.”

Sharper eyes were definitely needed in the evening hours, because who the fuck knew when another horde of poison-monsters would come crashing against the city’s battered walls.

“I can’t run a gym out here, I don’t have all my Pokémon for both challenges. I only have six. I’d rather leave the gym business to other people who want to try their hand at it.”

And besides, gyms? In this ye olde world? What even was that kind of concept? It was as alien and strange as working electricity.

Oh, boy, opening up that can of Orthworm was definitely a bad idea. Nope.

(Especially when you had a partner who got insanely jealous because of all the exes you’ve previously had. Hello, , for one thing.)

He then scoffed her way the moment she mentioned how she was queen.

“You know as much as I do that true royalty don’t just sit on a chair and do absolutely nothing. Try to get involved… like how is, mustering up a company of knights and training them to be ready at a moment’s notice. Or like , whose ‘queen’ established the postal service. You wouldn’t want to be remembered as the Lazy One, right?”

He cackled to himself quietly. Well, who else better than to inspire the people into action than seeing one of their rulers themselves getting involved in the thick of it?
