selena only encountered hoennian pirates once, the circumstances of which were not as pleasing as this one. but at least, then, selena has the advantage to turn the tables against them. this time, however, the safety of castforms is at stake.[break][break]

“let’s hope they’re just pirates,” the gym leader responds with a rhetoric. she knows even as pirates, they are far from invincible. but what if they are not? “but you’re right. it’s best to report this to the rangers, especially if the castforms will be unprotect.”[break][break]

boreas’s push with hydro pump is so accurate, it is as if they teleported right into the tower island within split second. “hey vera,” she muses as she alights the boat with the herd of cloud pokémons floating around her. “i guess i needed your help after all. thanks!”[break][break]

another safari ball slides her satchel. what appears on her side is a castform tucking itself in selena’s side. the first thing on the gym leader’s mind is it also wants the biscuits she have for others. unfortunately for it, it finds itself a capsule as a new home. fortunately for her, the castform is a rare find in the region.[break][break]

wet noses press into both her palms playing under the table. where dahlia goode’s stoutland touches one, her boltund meets the other. raijin chooses to lay down her side as the gym leader watches the commisioner’s presentation.[break][break]

in all of selena’s tenure as lilycove gym leader, it is the first time she receives a summon. such occassion is rare for hoenn league, especially when gym leaders are even invited. she hears of the challenges hoennians have to face throughout the years and yet she only takes the job as a mere tool to cut off her leg work hours. but the crown weighs heavy with each passing hour.[break][break]

she sits with a comparable discomfort as everybody else. beneath the pale lighting, the flashes of colors from the screen, sapphire orbs shift through faces as the commissioner speaks. selena knows she cannot blame them. ultra wormhole, war, champion, avatar. all of these are too much to be taken at once.[break][break]

Katherine Fairburne responds the obvious to the query skyler dross makes. ALEXANDER STONE follows with his own proposal. the kalosian thinks he must be only looking out for his city, like how other gym leaders would, but selena thinks sootopolis isn’t the entire hoenn.[break][break]

“make lilycove one of our strongholds,” her voice is stern but modest. “petalburg and slateport, too. i think wormholes can only manifest by the sea and not in-land. that’s what happened in mossdeep and slateport. i may be wrong. i’m not even a strategist. but she already spotted one just outside my city. if we can block their potential entry points, we might stand a chance. besides, we have Laurence Anderson’s rangers on the east, too.”[break][break]

on the subject of a provisional champion, selena is indifferent to dahlia’s persistence to produce one. she appreciates the value that comes with it but she knows if they cannot regain the public’s trust to prepare for an upcoming war, so as an appointed champion. however, she chooses to refrain from making a comment.[break][break]

when the surge of yellow washes over the dark conference room, selena tries to compose herself in front of power. a legend graces their presence within the walls of league headquarters. its power overwhelms selena.[break][break]

“and we’ll win with tapu koko,” soft words escape her almost sealed lips. it is only a myth for quite some time, a story passed from one generation to another about certain island guardians. it is a only for a brief moment, but when the guardian’s eyes meet with selena’s, she begins to understand the power it possesses.[break][break]

but when dahlia speaks, selena stays mum. does she have the confidence of tapu koko? the kalosian doesn’t know. she might not know, for only the legend can choose an avatar for itself.[break][break]

“you're right. i have an idea!” the gym leader calls on the serpentine at hand. medusa coils from inside the boat before she plunges into the water. “medusa will break their boats before they can even strike again. but we need to cover these castforms first.”[break][break]

luckily, she brings with her another useful pokémon. an arctovish leaps from the capsule into the water before popping its head back into the surface. “boreas, push as further into the tower island. leave a trail of ice for medusa to follow,” she gestures towards the castforms, still floating midair. “you go inside. we need to protect you from them.”[break][break]

beside the feeding tympole, an anorith breaks through the water. selena notices its difference in color, but not after she steals the tadpole's biscuit.“hey! you shouldn't do that,” she speaks with harshness, the fossil mon floating with a frown. selena sighs and breaks another piece of biscuit and offers it to the anorith. “you can just ask instead of stealing someone elses food.”[break][break]

selena stands up and continues walking, but the anorith decides to follow her. one swift drop of pokéball and the creature is already hers.[break][break]

the gym leader does not realize she's already allowing the lady to the speedboat until it's too late. her cheeks flush the same pink when vera corrects her, realizing she may not have been really around the way she is supposed to be.[break][break]

“it's just around the corner. there's a weather station tower a few rocks outside lilycove. we moved it so our celltowers don't interfere with the signal.” she muses as she ready the speedboat to action, crossing the shallow waters into the deeper parts of the eastern seas. “wait, did you say lab? so you're a scientist?”[break][break]

“that's why i haven't seen you around yet.” she explains. “i don't know when you've last stayed here in lilycove, but a lot has changed. i hope it's for the better.”[break][break]

she hops into the boat before offering her hand once more to aid vera. the seven castforms, on the other hand, assist biscuit by laying on top of each other to form steps.[break][break]
