he thinks: this is it. adrenaline sings in his veins and something bubbles in the back of his throat and then he realises it's laughter. he could embrace @zacharias. he could lock everyone below them in place and watch them all reduce to ash.

the snarling of his houndoom snaps dominic's attention down to watch as a woman launches herself with her pokemon at priam conrad. he doesn't need to do the gesture, the pokemon doesn't need a signal to do what it wants to do regardless. all the houndoom needs is the trainer's permission.

"throw her off!" dominic calls out.

it happens immediately; the houndoom lunges forward as a projection of its fangs - black as ink and searing - manifest around Kaida Adachi and her pokemon. jaws snap around them in an inescapable cage as Z-MOVE BITEY BITE takes hold, burning with enough intensity to vitrify. after latching on, the attack will attempt to throw the target downward, using the momentum against them.

at the peak of the houndoom's jump, dominic recalls the pokemon to its capsule. he sneers down at the woman, unable to taunt her only because the rush of wind rips the words from his mouth as the noivern hurtles on ahead. they fucking did it.


tldr: SAFEGUARD (4/5) and LIGHT SCREEN (3/5) are active. with @zacharias and his noivern. klefki is on dominic's person. houndoom uses Z-MOVE BITEY BITE on Kaida Adachi / her seviper to stop them interfering with priam conrad. recalls houndoom. he's leaving lmao.

the corners of dominic's mouth curl back; a cheshire cat smile. the serrated edge is still there even when the passage of time erodes the bite.

"and you're right here with me."

here, at the lair of their quarry. here, on hoenn's shores once again when they all had the option to run. dominic draws closer for a moment and drops his voice to speak, conspiratorial.

"says a lot about you."

another grin accompanied by unbroken eye contact. dominic flicks a wrist to release a pokemon from its capsules in a lightning-fast gesture - after all, whole battles often hinge on quick release and withdrawal. the garchomp towers over the pair of men, testing its wings against the wind whipping around them.

he wants blood, he wants sulfur and brimstone. dominic feels his heartbeat thrum in the back of his throat, the adrenaline making him see in everything so sharply in the gloom and smog.

as Kazimir Wynter and his dracozolt attempt to approach the tree, the ground underneath them will open up, swallowing them into the hungry mud as bisharp pulls them down with its DIG. the pokemon won't remain out long enough to see if the attempt to stall and drain the water works; dominic recalls it to its capsule with honed reflexes.

where they stand, dominic feels a droplet of something grace his cheek - he recognises the healing properties of a LIFE DEW.

"block them," he orders the klefki, even as he's making his way through the mud and grime to rejoin the others. the HEAL BLOCK is practically invisible in its conception - a momentary outline of white envelopes both the tree and everyone near the LIFE DEW'S source.

dominic whirls around to face his group just as the blacephalon is released from its confines. seeing the eerie spectral shape of the beasts elicits a grin.

as more water surges around them in a crescendo he yells out a string of profanity to @zacharias and closes the distance between him and the man's noivern. dominic grabs the pokemon's leg and allows it to raise them into the air. branches burst out once more, violent in their release. the klefki flits through them to rejoin its trainer, using its tiny size and agility to its advantage.

once they've ascended to b2, dominic watches for a moment as the ultra beast's flames begin to rise higher and higher. he reaches for another capsule and releases houndoom alongside the small collection of gathered league and rocket alike.

"burn everything," dominic says, and the pokemon does exactly as directed, summoning a raging INFERNO to lash at everyone in its vicinity.


tldr: SAFEGUARD (3/5) and LIGHT SCREEN (2/5) are active. bisharp DIGS underneath Kazimir Wynter , attacking him and draining some water. bisharp is recalled. klefki uses HEAL BLOCK on the tree, and every league member in the vicinity of LIFE DEW - it will then attempt to flit through the branches to return to dominic's side. dominic backs up to @zacharias and gets picked up by noivern. at the b2 level, dominic releases houndoom and uses INFERNO to set everyone and any threatening branches alight, empowered by FLASH FIRE triggered from blacephalon's attack.

two things happen in quick succession.

first, zacharias sticks his hand directly in his face, coming dangerously close to gouging out an eye.

and second, a pikachu is hurled directly at his face, naturally. dominic snarls and throws it directly at the magby, eliciting a squeak and a little jolt of electricity. dominic shoots a glare down at both pokemon to silence them.

"elly..." he echoes priam, smiling vacantly for a long moment until realisation dawns on him and his brows knit together. a sour expression pinches at dominic's features.

"wait you mean gardner?"

dominic flops back further in his seat, busying himself with dislodging a can for zacharias before firmly pressing it into the outstretched hand. the task required enough brain power that it didn't really register that a spewpa had struck the backseat window and was sort of... oozing? he's glad he kept the window closed.

"i guess we have enough to beer to share..." he says, reluctantly.

it's the cacturne's humanoid shadow that throws him off. dominic sees it from the corner of his eye and whirls around, tossing his weavile's pokeball toward the wild pokemon with an order before he's even sure who or what is approaching.

it's a feral instinct, something that shoots adrenaline through his veins when something approaches from the shadows.

dominic exhales sharply, relieved, as he watches his pokemon hack at the wild cacturne. ribbons of green leaves are sliced by vicious claws until dominic finally fishes out an empty capsule and silences the cries.

capturing!

the brochure for the safari zone crumples as dominic clenches his fist. he's been long overdue a visit, and the current species swarming the perfectly cultivated pocket of wilderness is... acceptable.

today, dominic will be a normal fucking person. he dressed decently, and hey, he shaved today. he even resisted climbing the gate, having paid for a ticket and entered through the front gate like a proper civilian.

fire flashes in bursts, visible through dense foliage and high above the tree-tops.

dominic takes a detour to watch the blaziken train. although their kicks and punches emit heat fierce enough that and observer can practically feel it, dominic can see they are careful and calculated enough that it is mere training for the species. no matter how potent their attacks, none will result in a FATALITY.

he paces for a little while longer until he opts to let loose an empty capsule for a capture attempt.
