this is not the first time he's rivaled Zev Harcourt on the battlefield; he is reminded of annalise henderson's rescue; how he had struggled to break through their crystalline armor, let alone leave a dent. but as their crystals are still not visible, he has yet to make the connection.[break][break]

however, he is quick to make another connection.[break][break]

both ENVY and GRUDGE flare, boiling to the surface only to be left blueballed when kyle lopez engages in combat; a move he'd expect from himself and not the top champion.[break][break]

The recognition in kyle lopez's face was oddly gratifying, as was his declaration. Kyle knew him, Zev was certain, though he couldn't figure out why that was the case—or why he was so sure. They had only known each other for a short while, and Zev had worn his civilian mask the entire time. [break][break]

Right? [break][break]

That black knife came swinging. Zev blocked it with a crystalline hand, his movements second nature. The blade did not shatter. Of course it didn't. It was forged of the same impervious metal as the Beast himself. [break][break]

Kyle and Zev had only fought once before on that new island on Route 105. Yet Kyle's hand-to-hand fighting style seemed so familiar; Zev's body reacted almost instinctively. Every dodge, parry, and counter tugged on dust-laden memories buried deep in his subconscious. [break][break]

But before even the hint of one could surface, an EARTH SPIKE barreled at Zev from the side. Thankfully, TRICK ROOM slowed the attack; he had just enough time to react. Deciding to tank it, he increased gravity's hold on himself so the impact wouldn't send him flying. [break][break]

Stone broke upon his torso, ripping through his jacket to reveal cold, black crystal underneath. [break][break]

"Elisabeth! Do something about Silph!" Zev shouted. His gaze remained fixed on the Top Champion in front of him. Crystals spread across his neck and head, pockmarking his face with spots of void. "Leave Kyle to me." [break][break]

Zev lunged, raking claws seeking to tear Kyle's flesh. His Genesect continued to fight with Matias' Mr. Mime, shooting an ELECTROWEB at the clown. [break][break]

the chingling floats in the distorted space, knocked out by the wo-chien. kyle wouldn't be able to recall it back, but he can bring it back if its life does cross over the edge.

"you should listen to him," he tells the florist without moving his eyes away from zev.

he retracts his arm, holding the knife up close in an attempt to hold off the brunt of zev's attack. it doesn't carve through his flesh, but it's enough to rip off clothing and narrowly drawing blood.

"you were killing the fun, you know."

kyle was a pacifist, which was a complete inverse of zev. combat training had been the middle ground of their interests, conditioning him to an attachment to the clashing of blades.

for elisabeth to disturb the fleeting feeling of sentimentality, kyle figures the moment is spoiled, or rather, ruined. he calls for the only remedy he knows.

"blow up the stage, matias!"

levitate had been bestowed on kyle through the chingling's entrainment, having used it immediately after trick room. using the force behind zev's strike, he launches himself above the ground, where matias is free to detonate the entire piece of earth underneath their footing.

A GIGA DRAIN stretched towards the man, seeking to drain him in tandem with the effects of the nearby BARREN TERRAIN. It sought to fatigue him, dragging him and kyle lopez down, down, down as their GRUDGES lessened their strength only to empower her own.[break][break]

the shadow-touched mr. mime is what stops matias from blowing them all up in the first place. for whatever reason, he feels less impulsive around it which has given him the clarity of reading the situation better. for that reason, kyle lopez's ask goes unanswered, at least for now as GIGA DRAIN holds them down.[break][break]

but it does not anchor them.[break][break]

doing what he does best, he quick swaps his trapped mr. mime out for charizard. immediately, MEGA EVOLUTION happens, forming a DROUGHT in the small space within AREA ZERO.[break][break]

Alarm bells rang in Zev's head. If a detonation of some kind was about to happen, he needed to get Elisabeth Fiorelli out of there—immediately. So when MATIAS SILPH's Charizard MEGA EVOLVED and HURRICANE winds started to pick up, Zev rushed to her side. [break][break]

"We need to get out of here now!" he shouted over the howling gale. A deft flick of his wrist recalled his Genesect, even as they began to lift off the ground. [break][break]

Out of another Pokéball emerged his Golurk. The spectral golem snatched the two humans and Wo-Chien from the air, then turned and began to FLY away, as quickly as possible. [break][break]

Just in time, too, as the ground erupted in a devastating display of earthen fury. And from the shattered ground emerged an unlikely sight: a Regirock. [break][break]
