What stroke of ill-fated luck had Barnaby had, that day of the first distortion?

When he had been engulfed in an oppressive haze, separated from his coworker and made to witness the painful evolution of his STANTLER?

It had been a terrifying moment, all things considered. But it had set him up to be the point-person for future reports on the distortions. Something about experience being a valued asset going forward. Right.

This time around there were rumors of a distortion appearing at the Mossdeep Space Center Observatory - and, for better or worse, these rumors proved to be true.

The rift between space-time was just as insufferable as the last. Barnaby felt himself careen and bend from the inside out, as if part of him was resisting the chaotic energy that swirled around his body.

The Pokémon he had brought with him, too, was fairing poorly - wait, another strange evolution? Much like the STANTLER before, Barnaby's QUILAVA let out a piercing cry as its body convulsed. Sparking energy whirled around the Fire-type, crackling and spinning until an entirely new Pokémon was revealed.

He hadn’t come back here since the Soiree. The wounds still fresh. He hadn’t seen @artemis , and he missed him dearly even if he said he didn’t. This place was the start of it all. Or…maybe he was just deflecting blame from himself again. Whatever the case, he’d been curious about the distortion and had stepped into it willingly. Cacio snarled as they entered shaking off a wave of nausea. Mint meanwhile gagged as bilet rose up in his throat. [break][break]

He swallowed thickly, stopping for a moment to steady himself. And then he released his newest capture. A little Zorua, shy but rather excited to stay with him. He felt bad….but he’d heard from some other people in the labs that the distortions were messing with Zoruas and… perhaps Raphael Pryde was rubbing off on him. Nevertheless his poor pokemon shook as soon as he was let out, almost crying before belching out a bit of vomit. “Amarone! I’m so sorry- I- Maybe I shouldn’t have brought you here.” He said, crouching down to gently hold the pokemon closer. His fur began to grow white and he felt a little colder. “Oh fuck- Oh shit-” he whispered in a panic. Cacio took the lead, batting away long locks and growling at the pair. They should leave. Rumblings of something angry and wild echoed nearby, too many for Cacio to keep off on his own. “Right.” Mint picked up the Zorua now bleached from the distortions power and whimpering in his arms, as the breeder tried to soothe it.

bryan delarosa ’s lilligant situation and further research had prompted her to pay closer attention to the next space-time distortion. the phenomena were substantial, and worth dropping her projects for now to investigate. it was the location of this one in particular that really had her rushing out the door.

the domed anomaly crackled out of the ground, spitting lightning and energy in new colors. flanked by her porygon, the scientist slipped into the rift, only to find that the weather was terrible. spring was ripped away, and they were plunged into cold elements that bit at even her circhesterian nose. she glared through it, pushing on in the name of science, and glory.

she would ignore the growls and hollers in the nearby distance, leaving the wrangling of such strange creatures to the likes of rocket’s beasts, like bryan delarosa , and other powerful trainers. if luck and this miserable reality allowed, she and her data-collecting team would only be here long enough to take their readings and leave.
