It wasn't a crown, but Gavin's just excited to have found something other than a pokeball. He hadn't been able to see what he was grabbing through all the silt stirred up by other divers, so the circular object had been a disappointment until he surfaced and found the pearl clutched between his fingers. His mood only improved further when he learned of its value.

Still hoping for a crown, he dives back in.
