The former pair's tactics overcome the latter pair's brute strength, ensuring the victory of Gerald Kaiser's CHARIZARD and Fenelle Miller's ORTHWORM over dorian westcliff's GOUGING FIRE and Hitoshi Inoue's KINGAMBIT.
kepler brueshaber and Kazuya Yoshida duke it out with their GOLURK and WOOPER, respectively. While both manage to survive their brawl, they land devastating blows on other enemies.
parker jones and DANE FAIRCHILD separately join the fray with her IRON BOULDER and his TYRANITAR, but both Pokémon ultimately fall after unleashing only a couple of moves.

Getting knocked out round one was unfortunate, but demonstrating her ability to strategize with traps was better than getting knocked out for fighting with wild abandon. [break][break]

She smiled at Aurelie's surprise to see her and Rhys. "Unfortunate, I know," she mused. She was glad to see Aurelie. Quite a bit of time had passed since their excursion in area zero where Aurelie had confirmed what Amor had alluded to months ago - that Megalopolans were cannibals - and in all that passing time, Ameena had even encountered Megalopolans herself. "I see a lot of excellent fighters below." She stood beside Aurelie, watching the contenders. She turned back to the woman as she referenced the prison in her conversation with THEO BECKETT ; she was in full agreement with Aurelie's assessment that there was no way to prepare for the worst anymore. "And it feels like little was gained from the experience. That Megalopolan bracelet I snatched," Ameena offered, referring to what had fallen off the child she'd tried to take from the ship, "is just an unusual mineral make-up, but nothing of value. No odd energy signatures, nor tera or toxic chain relationship."

[attr="class","aurelie_body"]Aurelie smiled warmly at Ameena, feeling oddly flattered that the dream scientist still remembered her despite their joint excursion into Area Zero happening several months ago. The Megalopolan prison hardly counted, considering their chances for meaningful interaction inside had been nearly nonexistent outside of the dream, where they hadn't met.

"Hopefully, if either of us ever attend another competition like this, we'll both fare a little better next time," she replied optimistically. "You're right, though, there was definitely some stiff competition this time."

Watching the clashes still going on in the arena, the redhead tried to study the fights with an analytical eye. Nodding at the two trainers partnered with a Charizard and Orthworm, respectively, Aurelie went on, "Maybe next time, you can even team up like that couple there! It didn't occur to me at the time, but it definitely seems effective."

Even if Ameena demurred, the redhead at least felt better seeing others bringing Pokemon like a Golurk and a Gouging Fire. At least, it made her feel like her choices of Pokemon were solid, even if her tactics might not have been.

When the dream scientist mused about their experience in the Megalopolan prison and mentioned the bracelet she'd picked up therein, Aurelie's head whipped around so quickly she practically gave herself whiplash. Her uncovered eye was wide and fascinated.

"Did you say...an unusual mineral makeup?" she asked eagerly, her face shining with unabashed enthusiasm. "Do you still have that bracelet? If you do, I'd love to study it. I love learning about new and undiscovered materials and seeing what they can do."

Well, if someone could get value out of the bracelet, Ameena was happy to pass it along. It was worth nothing to her projects. Aurelie's excitement was a little gratifying, that for all Ameena had been through in the prison, at least she had something to show for it (at least, as far as one person was concerned). It was still disappointing that the bracelet was no secret key to dimensional travel or anything, but beggars and choosers... [break][break]

"Of course," she smiled. "I have it in my laboratory. I will have it sent your way. It does not appear particularly sturdy or otherwise useful, but the novelty could be fun." She wasn't too familiar with the finer points of blacksmithing and related crafts. [break][break]

Ultimately, it was rewarding to get the bracelet out of her sight. Perhaps, some day, she would have a successful Megalopolan relic that contained answers for her. She turned her attention to the two newcomers of the spectator pool and waved at the strangers. "Welcome in," she greeted. Turning back to Aurelie, her amusement was plain on her face. "Kazuya Yoshida and Gerald Kaiser went out just like me and Rhys Collins . A little self-destruction is great for thinning the herd, but less direct assaults are more effective in a competition like this, it seems." [break][break]

Unfortunately, Gerald Kaiser had not lived up to Zev's expectations of him. When the grunt left the arena following his elimination, the Rocket Beast grimaced. Finally allowing himself to leave the observation deck's glass railing, he made his way to the liquor table to pour himself a drink. There, he caught sight of Adrian Malcolm, standing apart from the rest. [break][break]

After pouring himself a whisky on the rocks, Zev approached the former Avatar of Yveltal. His Lycanroc followed at his heels. [break][break]

"You disappeared for a while," the assassin said, though in truth, he'd simply stopped noticing Adrian's name on recent reports. "I thought you'd retired." [break][break]

A joke. There was no retiring from Rocket, not for most people. [break][break]

Zev took a sip of his drink, savoring both the richness and the burn. "What brings you back?"

It had taken time to come to grips with the fact he had been discarded. Perhaps he simply cursed the creature for entering his life, forcing him into this decision, just to abandon him to it.[break][break]

Perhaps it left him questioning his qualities as a trainer, or even a person. But if nothing else, it had wounded an ego that had long been nurtured by the adulation of one-time fans.[break][break]

Zev took another sip from his glass, peering at Adrian Malcolm over the rim of it with his cold, critical gaze. Whatever thoughts ran through his head, they did not show in his expression. [break][break]

Instead, the Rocket Beast turned his attention to the nearest screen depicting the all-out brawl between kepler brueshaber's and Fenelle Miller's Pokémon. "Good. The upcoming operations will require all our effort, regardless of whether a person is an Avatar or not." [break][break]

He cast a sideways glance at Adrian. [break][break]

"If you need a refresher course or any supplemental training, Neon and I oversee group sessions on the submarine." As mint frost had shown up in his operative disguise, it was clear he didn't wait his real name thrown around in such mixed company.
