    “Type: Null?” A hand reached out to retrieve the cocktail napkin, slipping it back into the pocket of his jacket. “Never heard of that Pokémon before.” Perhaps a related species of the one he’d seen? Rowan would keep the name in the back of his mind, something to research for a later time. “Thanks, I appreciate it, Andy.” Someone as well-traveled as Blackadder would be bound to run into the Pokémon before long, but hopefully not before he’d had a chance to see them again.

    “So, you seeing anyone?” Rowan asked with an amused look on his face, curious if someone could manage to keep up with the foul mouth of the teenager. “Just curious, since I’ve managed to wrangle someone myself.” The discussion couldn’t be locked on enigmatic Pokémon forever, after all their relationship was built on hazing each other to varying degrees.

    “The company that my family owns, yes.” He never considered how little Lulu knew about him and his past until now, amusing considering they were blood related siblings. “We’re known in Galar for making medical equipment, for humans and Pokémon. You can hardly go into a Pokémon Center back home without seeing our name on something there.” A soft sigh escaped from his throat, not expecting to reminisce about the past when coming to discuss the future.

    “Creating Shinification Machines is exactly what we do, after all they are popular on the pageant circuits. The strange part is how this one ended up in Hoenn and where that date came from.” Lulu offered to investigate the machine and Rowan nodded, hoping she’d be interested in the device. “I’d appreciate that, I’ve run out of leads and the person I’d been working with has disappeared into the wind.”

    “Risque?” Rowan could feel the heat gathering on his skin, unlike the kind provided from the waters of the hot spring. “I think you mean deadly, handsome.” He chuckled slightly and splashed some water on his lover, making sure not to touch them directly but remain close enough to still feel their presence close.

    “If you’ve got an idea on how to do that without killing me, then I’ll gladly submit.” A small smirk crawled across his lips, devious and sensual. After all, there was nothing more he wanted than to be physical with Adrian once more.

    “You’ve always been the only person I could trust, Izzy.” Rowan had a serious look in his eyes, constantly monitoring her expressions as he continued to unfold his feelings and secrets. “Ever since we were in primary school, I’ve been able to rely on you.” Fond memories were brought to mind, masking the despair that often clouded his mind. “You were the only person who could actually understand what I was going through, because you were going through the same thing.”

    She was a puppet of her family too, forced to hide her true self in favor of what benefitted them and them only. “Why should any of that change now?” As close as he was to and , they couldn’t relate to him on an emotional level. @izzy was unique in that she was a kindred spirit, and was more like him than anyone else in this entire cursed region.

    “Don’t worry, I can handle it myself.” Rowan dismissed the offer to have his phone reimbursed by Team Rocket, the last thing he wanted right now was to owe them more than he already did. “I have plenty of money stashed away.” Always ready to be withdrawn and taken on the run in a moment's notice, his exit strategy should he need it.

    “I’ll find her, it probably would be better to have a more personal touch than send a text message or a phone call.” Serena deserved better than that, she was a close friend and now that his relationship with Melody had been compromised, his circle of friends only continued to shrink. “What are you all planning to do with , anyways?”

    “Yeah, Adrian is my boyfriend.” Seemed like an understatement considering how strongly he felt about the other man, so mundane and unremarkable despite the butterflies he felt whenever they were near. “We met in Slateport, a few months after I came to Hoenn.” More details would make him seem like a hypocrite, but he wasn’t about to omit details about his own personal love story to save face.

    “I wasn’t allowed to drink when I lived in Galar, so one of the first things I did was go to a pub there in the city.” A hand reached up to slip some hair behind his ear. “I didn’t know what to order and was stumbling over my words. Adrian butted in and ordered for me, we got to talking and…” Rowan trailed off, assuming that Temp could draw the lines himself from there. They weren’t a stranger to one-night stands, he was sure.

    “You’re scared of them?” An eyebrow raised from the sudden and unexpected confession. “No need to worry, love.” Rowan smiled and shuffled closer to Adrian, setting Mistral gently on the grass before looping his arm through their own. “I’m sure there wouldn’t be a whole soiree should there be any perceived danger.” He’d come to believe Adrian was fearless, unflinching in the face of danger until now.

    “I’m sorry for rushing you off, by the way.” Rowan lowered his voice, making sure the other was the only one who could hear him. “I just don’t want to see Melody right now.” He hadn’t told them about what happened between him and Melody on the submarine, how she knew about him being a member of Team Rocket and cursed him for lying. Their friendship had been dissolved, before the memory altering intervention of Rocket and now he didn’t know how to face her. “Let’s just enjoy the meteor shower, yeah?”

    Rowan watched the others introduce their Pokémon with ever mounting anxiety. Acting was second nature to Rowan in order to survive, but crafting an actual performance was another monster entirely. Others came out onto the stage with impressive displays, meanwhile he was hoping to not come off as too awkward to compete. had convinced him to sign up against his better judgement, otherwise he would have opted to be in the crowd instead of in the limelight.

    “Here goes nothing.” A deep breath and Rowan strode out onto the stage with a smile on his face, careful to curb his usual mannerisms in favor of appearing more confident. “Hello everyone. I’m here today with my Inteleon, Natasha.” On cue, the Shiny Inteleon burst onto the stage surrounded in a torrent of water, shimmering underneath the spotlight as the beads rolled off her scales. “Watch out, you never know when she’ll strike...” Natasha aimed her finger-gun towards the audience with a sly smirk stretched across her face. “...and she doesn’t miss.”

    Love? Arceus, they’d only been dating for a few weeks. “I see.” The relationship seemed rushed, though some might have said the same thing about his relationship with . Rowan couldn’t help but awkwardly glance about the shipping container when Temp spilled their guts about their feelings for , conflicted between hearing sickeningly sweet things about his brother and the romantic inside of him that fell head over heels for his own soulmate within a short few months. “Alright, alright. I get the idea.”

    A hand reached up to tuck some hair behind his ear, letting out a soft sigh of resignation. “No one who could go on like that with a stranger has cruel intentions, I trust you.”  seemed utterly enamored and for the most part harmless, there didn’t seem to be any chance of them being the one committing the heartbreak should their union part. “I felt the same way about Adrian when I met him, so I get it.”

    “Getting drunk? Of course not, handsome.” Rowan flashed his boyfriend a smile, even though he was lying. “Hold still a second.” A hand reached up to brush some of Adrian’s hair back into place, having been disheveled during the whole Unown incident. “There, as radiant as ever.” At least he could keep his focus on them for the time being, thinking about Melody not remembering and the implications behind that was too difficult to handle at the moment. “What about you Lilith, did you come with a date?” He knew the answer, but he couldn’t resist teasing her.

    Mistral waddled up to Rowan with a full stomach, letting out an exhausted series of trills before stretching their flippers upwards towards him. “Oh, so now you want me to carry you, huh?” Bending down, he picked up the Prinplup and carried them in his arms. “Bloody hell, you’ve gotten heavy.” Rowan grunted, attempting to shift them into a more comfortable position. Last time he’d held Mistral like this, they were still a Piplup.

    Amber eyes shifted towards the ceiling as it opened, the announcement from Dr. Holo that the Litleonids were soon to be falling. “Hey babe, did you want to watch the meteor shower from outside?” Rowan asked, glancing up towards them with a curious look. It would be rather romantic, after all.

    “Shit!” Rowan exclaimed as he withdrew his hand from the rubble he’d been moving, a clean slice across his thumb from a hidden shard of glass. “Damn it. Spike, can you clean this for me?” The Pyukumuku scuttled forward and inspected the wound before using Purify to clean out the wound, preventing any infection. “Thanks, mate.” A smile was given to the Pokémon before offering them a friendly pat with his non-bloodied hand.

    “Hey, Adrian? You don’t happen to have any bandaids, do you?” Rowan asked over his shoulder, hoping his boyfriend had been more proactive than himself. A number of Rockets were present at this event, almost overwhelming the League civilians. Not a surprise considering they’d been helping out , but he certainly wasn’t expecting and to show up as well.

    Religion wasn’t something Rowan held in much regard, as the people of Galar weren’t nearly as superstitious as those in Hoenn or other regions, but also because he believed that destiny was his own to claim. The idea of some creator or overlord to guide his path was distasteful, considering how horrible his life had begun and the sacrifices he’d had to make to crawl out. If there was a supreme being, they were a real asshole.

    Yet, a path to the unknown was revealed to Rowan from some sort of divine intervention. Drops of blood he'd shed didn't remain still on the ground, instead they began pooling towards a single location, a depression in the ground that lead into the hidden staircase the others had found.
