“I’m here, babe. I can see the Unown myself.” Rowan responded to the feed from Adrian Malcolm with an amused smile, turning his camera around to show the swarm from his view. “I’m going to get on that bloody Unown Report, even if I have to stay here all night.” Amber eyes narrowed on the sight of the nearby Unown that resembled the letter ‘K’, corresponding to his lucky number eleven.

This was the one. Rowan grabbed onto a Pokéball on his waist and tossed his chance into the lot, hoping he could manage to snatch one of the enigmatic Pokémon.

Sickness churned in his stomach as Rowan stood outside the entrance to the Verdanturf Gym. No matter how much he willed his shaking legs to move inside, he couldn’t. Knowing what was inside was enough to make him break down right here in front of the doors, forcing himself to choke back the lump in his throat. “Come on, Rowan…” One step, and then another. Before long Rowan was standing at the receptionist desk for the building, waiting until they weren’t busy before speaking.

“Is Noah Faber here?” Rowan managed to keep his voice in check, despite the trepidation that was eating him from the inside out. “Just a moment, I’ll check.” The receptionist responded, though Rowan knew the answer already. “No problem, I can wait.” He took a step away from the desk and crossed his arms, amber eyes fixated on the clock that was hanging on the wall. Was he making a mistake? What if Noah recognized his voice from Sootopolis? Maybe he should just leave while he can...

“You don’t have to trust them, Adrian. You only need to use them.” This was how Rowan saw Team Rocket, especially since he’d become disillusioned with certain ideals and aspects of the organization. “I didn’t join Team Rocket because I agree with them. I needed their resources to get what I wanted.” Gavin recruited him in a desperate time, but he’d warped the situation into one that benefitted himself and he’d even gotten a Legendary to notice him in the process.

“Besides, Lulu isn’t Gavin. She seems more trustworthy and less invested. I think she can help you.” Lulu had helped him before without asking for anything in return, despite being in the position to do so. “I just want to see you get better, my love.”

Andy Blackadder was as crass as ever, but Rowan couldn’t deny the truth of what they were saying. “Agreed.” Problems in Galar seemed infinitesimal compared to the ones he faced now, between Team Rocket and the responsibilities he now held in the organization. Andy could never know about those, though. “Can’t imagine how I would have turned out should I have stayed there the rest of my life.” He imagined he’d be married to @izzy by now and miserable as ever, albeit not because of her specifically.

Rowan was hesitant to share anything honest about his current life with Andy Blackadder but he couldn’t help the curiosity that overcame him, especially when it came to someone as travelled as the younger man. “I did actually have something strange happen to me, recently.” He slipped a hand into the pocket of his jacket and produced a cocktail napkin, stepping forward and placing it on the table positioned over their hospital bed. “Don’t suppose you’ve seen this Pokémon in your adventures, have you?”

    Rowan visibly tensed up the moment he’d heard Melody’s voice calling out from across the way, having dreaded this eventual confrontation for weeks. Yet, he was equally confused when the other wrapped their arms around him in a friendly hug. What the hell was happening? As though answering his internal question, the mystery was soon revealed. She didn’t remember.

    Did she erase her memories with her Hypno, or was this the work of Cillian Quinn and Chu-e Choi ? “Hey Mel.” The facade of a smile cracked his solemn expression, masking the sick feeling that curdled inside of him. “Mistral is around, causing trouble no doubt.” A small glance about the room found the Prinplup with no problem, stuffing their face once more with the assortment of food at the buffet, uncaring about the meteoric event.

    “Yeah, it’s been nice.” Rowan responded, locking eyes with the strange Pokémon that accompanied Melody Miro, unfamiliar with the species but unwilling to ask. When he thought things couldn’t get more complicated, lilith eirwin approached them from behind with her usual mild demeanor. “Lilith, good to see you.”

    He’d make space for her in the conversation, pleased to have another buffer between him and Melody at the moment. “This is Lilith Eirwin, a friend of mine from Galar.” Introductions would be made for Adrian Malcolm and Melody before he chugged down the rest of his champagne in a single gulp. There wasn’t enough alcohol at this Soiree to make him feel better, but this was a start.

    What are you? Rowan stared at the picture he’d sketched of the Pokémon he’d seen in Sootopolis City, unable to uncover anything about them. Gavin mentioned that he’d seen the Pokémon around Kyle Lopez, at one time or another but something told him that what he’d seen was untamed and unfettered. Flowing mane and twin ribbons were painted in his mind, able to still feel the chilled northern wind that followed them.

    “Hey! Can you take these pictures of me real quick? I’ll trade ya the first bite of my dessert~” The sudden call to his attention snapped Rowan out of his thoughts, shifting his gaze towards the individual who had spoken. “Uh, sure.” mint frost wasn’t an unfamiliar face to him, he’d been diligent in learning the faces and names of new recruits since ascending to Rocket Beast, seeing as they were part of his duties now. Yet, they didn’t seem to recognize who he was, and that was entertaining to say the least.

    Scooping up his belongings, Rowan decided he’d play the anonymity game, if only to occupy his mind for the afternoon. “Sup.” He plopped down in the chair across from Mint, amber eyes meeting their own with a casual smile. “So, do you wanna use my phone or yours?”

“Killed me…?” Rowan’s eyebrows furrowed with concern for Adrian. “We’ve been careful, handsome. You know that won’t happen.” Yet, he couldn’t help but notice the barrier between them had been broken by the violent sleep of the other. Could he actually die in his sleep, without knowing what happened?

“Maybe you’re right.” A difficult thing to admit, considering that there was already enough separation between them. Adrian would never forgive themselves should anything happen to him, and Rowan didn’t exactly want to go to bed one night only to never wake up. “I don’t want to be away from you, though.”

“You should.” Rowan concurred with a small nod, pushing himself up from the coastal rocks. The ocean breeze was warm and familiar, unlike the enigmatic northern one he’d been feeling recently. “I’m kinda tired, you wanna go home?” He offered with a soft smile, between training and having some of his energy drained by Adrian, there was nothing better than a nap right now. “Our home, though. I need a break from Sootopolis.”

Sirocco appeared in a flash of light, allowing Rowan to climb aboard the saddle strapped to their back. “Last one there has to cook tonight.” He stuck his tongue out towards Adrian and gently hugged the sides of his Pelipper with his legs, an indication to take off towards Slateport City and their shared apartment.

A small laugh erupted from Rowan as Adrian explained himself. “You mean, darker than the bloody night sky?” Perhaps the moonlight was enough to illuminate the darkness for Adrian, but Rowan didn’t see much of a difference. “I usually bring my Chinchou down with me when I go too deep, Luma keeps things nice and bright.” He explained.

Rowan was curious what other things Adrian didn’t appreciate about the ocean, but the conversation was unceremoniously interrupted by the arrival of Shiny Slowbro. “What are you doing all the way up here, big guy?” This wasn’t the natural habitat of these Pokémon, but they were also known for being absent minded and thus prone to getting lost. Before he’d had a chance to interact with the Slowbro, Adrian moved in with Runegris and captured them, offering a small shrug. “Oh look, that ones a Meditite.”

    Amber eyes widened with slight surprise as Kyle Lopez and his Entei suddenly appeared. “Oh, hey. What’s up?” Was that too casual? He didn’t really know how to act when it came to being face-to-face with the Champion of Hoenn, especially since he’d been present at both the excursion to the Seafloor Cavern and the raid on Sootopolis. “I’m Rowan, Rowan Wrynn.” A free hand was offered towards the man, making sure to keep his demeanor steady. Any nervousness could be written off as being in the presence of a celebrity, hopefully.

    “Nice to meet you.” Rowan offered a friendly smile towards Kyle and Entei. “Yeah, we’ll be working together. Our destination isn’t exactly close, you have a Pokémon to ride on?” They were contracted to bring the Castform to Lilycove City, which was doable on foot, but they’d arrive before nightfall on mounts.

    Rowan did a quick inventory of his Pokéballs before selecting his own steed, literally. Spectrier appeared in the normal flash of light, clopping his way towards Rowan before offering a solitary nod of the head. “Let me know whenever you’re good to head out, yeah?”

“Yeah, I’ve got the device for the Unown Report, myself.” Rowan slipped a hand into the satchel hanging over his shoulder, showing off the device he’d been given. “Been more preoccupied thinking about this machine, to be honest.” Amber eyes were fixated on the message displayed, spending a number of sleepless nights attempting to uncover the secret behind them.

“No clue, really.” Rowan admitted, offering a small shrug. “None of these are familiar terms, but I was hoping you might have some insight.” A hand slipped some hair behind his ear and sighed. “All I know is that it belonged to Olivia Abbiati, and these machines were used during the war to create wormholes to Ultra Space. Above my paygrade, but this is why I want to know.” He tapped a finger against the side of the machine, drawing attention to the Wrynn Corporation logo printed on the side.
