"Oh-oh. Wow, that's..." For a moment she blinks at him, taken aback by his apparent eagerness to help. Perhaps it's a bit mean of her, but she assumed he would simply make a donation and leave it at that. Her professional facade cracks for a moment while she processes this, and she clears her throat as she tries to get it back.[break][break]

Happily oblivious, Sugar continues to purr as Remiel pets her. Her ribbons slowly wind around his arm as he does, keeping him tethered in place. He has no choice but to keep petting her now![break][break]

"I mean...right, okay. That's very generous of you." And she means it. If Remiel remembers anything about her, it's that her compliments flow like wine, but are always sincere. "If you'd really like to help organize things...well, I— we would greatly appreciate it."[break][break]

Luka still isn't used to having her own office. It's more conventional to hold meetings there, but it feels so formal that she still seeks outside rendezvous whenever possible. A coffee shop is much cozier, and it comes with it's own perks, such as the strawberry tea latte that sits steaming on her table.[break][break]

When her appointment arrives she stands, smiling cheerfully and holding her hand out to shake.[break][break]

"Thank you for meeting me! I hope this wasn't too far out of your way. Would, um, would you like me to get you anything?"[break][break]

The cafe has quite an extensive menu, after all. Luka sizes the man up, trying to figure out what he might order. A black coffee? Matcha? Or perhaps he'll surprise her with something full of cream and sugar.

ollie morales's office door is already standing open, but Luka knocks on it anyways. The voice that accompanies it is soft and polite, floating through the doorway like whisps of cloud. "Sorry, um, excuse me!"[break][break]

There's no reason for Luka to be nervous. Though she and Ollie have never been close by any means, he's always been kind to her. But his increase in rank means their dynamic has shifted, hasn't it? Professional politeness is always a safe fallback when she isn't sure what to do.[break][break]

Had they ever had a normal conversation? They'd never even been friends. In a way, meeting again in a professional capacity makes things easier; there's a script she can follow, and polite distance is easier to maintain. Even though Luka still remembers what had happened the last time they took a 'meeting' together, it's easier to push the memory aside when she's still in work mode.[break][break]

Her Sylveon is sitting on her desk, idly batting a pen around. When Remiel and the Golett approach, she looks up and mews softly, then extends her head, much like a cat looking for pets. Luka glances over at Sugar, but doesn't say anything about it. If her baby wants to turn traitor, so be it.[break][break]

"I see. Well, thank you for your interest. We're hoping that this event can make people view the amnesty program in a better light. ollie morales has asked me to help organize most of it, so I'm glad he sent you my way." She taps her fingertips on the table, noting with a stab of annoyance that some of her manicure has chipped.[break][break]

"What exactly were you hoping to help with?" Somehow, she can't picture Remiel being interested in the more menial labor required. "We need help with security, event planning...and funding, mostly."[break][break]

Luka beams at him, not minding the rambling at all. In fact, his immediate urge to help her out is a testament to what made him a good head ranger. He's quick to offer practical solutions— ones that sound truly helpful. How kind he is! It's a little heartwarming, honestly.[break][break]

"Seriously, I'd love that! You're so thoughtful, Monsieur." Her Sylveon flicks a ribbon; like Ra, she's eager to get to the battle. "Oh...r-right! I guess you can see how we do...a-and then we can talk about this later!"[break][break]

Sugar leaps into the fray with a soft yip, though their opponent is the one who strikes first. The Sylveon immediately raises her ribbons up as a kind of defense, hoping that they can soften the blow if she's unable to avoid the ice punch that comes her way.[break][break]

But instead of retaliating with a direct attack, a misty terrain seeps over the field, drenching Sugar in a pink fog that she blends in with rather well. Using this mist as a cover, she tries to get the jump on the attacking Riolu. As his ice-covered fists near her, she extends a ribbon and tries to grab him by the paw. He can probably see this coming, but does he see the other ribbon that attempts to snag him by the ankle and pull him down?

Luka announces herself with a cheerful sing-song, for her hands are otherwise occupied. Luckily, the doors to the lab aren't locked, and she's able to nudge one open with her hip.[break][break]

She's come to visit illeana reyes, as promised during their VCT match. On her way, she had stopped to pick up two coffees, which she hopes the other woman will appreciate. From what she remembers, Illeana is the type to prefer caffeine over sleep.[break][break]

However, she hadn't expected Eva Morales to be there as well. Which is silly— she works here too. Though it's a nice surprise, Luka quickly realizes that she doesn't have enough treats to go around, which means sacrificing the drink she'd bought for herself.[break][break]

"I-I hope you don't mind me barging in," she says with an apologetic grin, "But I come bearing gifts!"[break][break]

She holds both drinks out and quietly mourns the loss, though the brightness of her smile doesn't waver at all.[break][break]

After taking a little break, Luka and Sugar feel refreshed and ready to go![break][break]

They'd sat out of a few matches, but it's probably for the best. After all, potions can only do so much. But now that Sugar has been able to properly rest, she's practically sprinting towards their next match![break][break]

Luka arrives shortly after her Sylveon, her skirts fluttering around her legs and cheeks flushed with exertion. But she still grins brightly at her opponent, waving at him from her side of the field.[break][break]

"Pleased to meet'cha! Wait, I mean...to beat'cha! Shoot..."[break][break]

Aww! She'd spent, like, five minutes thinking of that one![break][break]

Living in Hoenn means that one starts to get used to all kinds of strange things. Still, Luka hadn't expected her opponent to show up wearing a skull on his head![break][break]

If it's meant to be intimidating, it's working. Still, she smiles and tries not to let her nerves get the best of her. This is just another person, after all, and it would be cruel to make a judgement based solely on their choice of headgear.[break][break]

"Um, hello there!" she calls from her place on the field. "I'm Luka...a-and I'm sure this will be a really exciting battle! Good luck!"[break][break]

Though between the two of them, she's likely the one who needs it more.

Sugar balks at the suggestion, clearly affronted by the mere idea. The Sylveon huffs as she hurries off to their next match, flicking her ribbons over her shoulder in a show of exaggerated annoyance.[break][break]

"Ehe...sorry, sorry! I was just kidding! You're doing so well, sweetie!"[break][break]

Sugar yips her agreement, and it's clear there are no hard feelings between the pair. Although as they approach the field, Luka can't help but privately worry. She really doesn't want her partner to push herself too hard...[break][break]

"Hello there!" she calls out, pushing her worries aside in lieu of greeting their next opponent. "I'm Luka...and this is Sugar!" Sugar dips her head in a cute little bow, her ribbons curling lazily around her.[break][break]

"Is that Smeargle your partner? They're soooo cute! I'm sure this will be a super fun battle— good luck!"

Her Sylveon responds to the praise with a happy yip, preening as her trainer showers her with compliments. Luka herself isn't much of a battler, so it's not as though they're dominating the competition. Still, the fact that she and her partner have lasted this long is a feat in and of itself, as far as she's concerned.[break][break]

They approach their next match in high spirits, waving in tandem at the man who waits for them on the other side of the field. Luka's smile is bright and bubbly, and her Sylveon's ribbons form a cute little heart to greet him.[break][break]

This isn't the right time to get distracted. Even so, Luka can't help herself! She's always been weak to pretty faces, and with pink hair to boot...well, it's a dangerous combination![break][break]

The Sylveon by her side glances up, then tugs at her hand with a winding ribbon. After a moment Luka startles back to reality, blinking down at Sugar with a blank, quizzical look.[break][break]

After several battles, Luka and her Sylveon are starting to feel a little worn out. But to their credit, they're doing a good job of hiding it! The pair seems cheerful as ever as they approach their next match, Luka with a spring in her step and Sugar trotting adorably by her side.[break][break]

They've never formally met, but Luka recalls seeing him around the ranger bases before. Isn't he a friend of ollie morales? Perhaps that's why she remembers him, or perhaps it's because she never forgets a handsome face.[break][break]

Whatever the reason, she's got to focus! Now that her partner is a little worse for wear, it's more important than ever to stay on their toes.[break][break]

Sugar deserves, like, a million pokepuffs after all this. But luckily, their next opponent is a friendly face! Luka doesn't know Elise nearly as well as she should (and that's all fishie's fault sob), but the other woman is familiar enough that she feels a little less nervous.[break][break]

But just because they're facing a beautiful woman doesn't mean she can let her guard down![break][break]

"It's good to see you again, Mademoiselle!" The soft Kalosian lilt in her voice carries cheerfully over the field, and her Sylveon echoes the greeting with a cheerful wiggling of ribbons.
