Summer's hands came flying down to the table, hitting it hard. Anything that was left on it would clatter, possibly fall and break on the ground. Her eyes were narrowed and hot like fire as she glared at him.[break][break]

"If you knew anything that was going on behind the scenes, Knox, you would be so happy to know that I'm losing my shit right now. But you don't. You refuse to know anything about it, no matter how much I try to convince you to."[break][break]

Her hands gripped the table cloth, her knuckles white. There was scarlet staining the table cloth from a piece of glass that cut into her hand, but she couldn't feel it.[break][break]

"You think that I want to keep this life. Things have changed. I don't want all of this anymore. And you think that I still have some little ounce of respect for the man Merrick Prescott was. You think you know who I am, Knox, but you couldn't be further from the truth."

Summer huffed. Part of her wanted to ignore him. She didn't want to give him the attention that he was trying to pull from her. But there was a part of her that wanted to prove a point. Things were still rotten between the both of them, and as much as she tried to repair them, nothing worked.[break][break]

She knew she had been a shitty sister. She had spent years playing those conversations over and over in her head. But was he still not over Ollie's death?[break][break]

"I find that highly unlikely. I think you enjoy seeing me revel in this misery."

It was sweet, she thought, how polite Gideon was. Though she knew there was awkwardness between them, he didn't bring up the most uncomfortable topic that was hanging in their presence. And for that, she was thankful. She was unsure what his feelings were about his brother and her... speed of the relationship, so to say.[break][break]

Her food was set in front of her shortly after. "Thank you for waiting. You certainly did not have to."[break][break]

She dug in though, suddenly feeling starved. She reserved her image and ate with small, pristine bites as she listened to him speak about the museum excitedly. A small giggle bubbled in her throat.[break][break]

"I'm glad things are going well. I can see you love that place and take care of it dearly. I truly enjoyed it at the masquerade. It was beautiful. Perhaps I can come visit another time when it's not in use as a venue."[break][break]

And this time, Summer would silently promise the eldest brother that she would not sneak off with Gunner Graves for a romp in the hidden displays.[break][break]

"Business is going well. It's quite stressful, but for the most part, I believe things are handled. However, I decided to step into a new type of business as well."

"So are you a student, then? It's quite impressive. Dare I say, I would absolutely hire you myself." It was, in a way, a soft offer at a job. She didn't know if the woman was done with her schooling or not, but her talent would be an asset for her company.[break][break]

She did not quite expect the reaction she received as she introduced herself to Yumi. The drippingly sweet tone and the light in her eyes would normally boost Summer's ego.[break][break]

There was a feeling of disgust when she thought about her past. Merrick Prescott came to mind. Summer was successful, yes, but would she be as successful in her own right without her father's help in the past?[break][break]

Instead, she offered a kind, bright smile, extending her manicured hand for her to shake should she choose to. "I hope you do. I would love the competition. Not to mention, I'd love another woman to be my number one contender in the business world. It would show those scoundrels their place."[break][break]

Summer laughed softly to herself, crossing one leg over the other daintily. "What do you want to do in fashion, Yumi?"

In normal situations, Summer Atreides wouldn't find herself intimidated by anyone. She was of higher priority, status, and talent than the majority of individuals in her world.[break][break]

But when she was told that she'd be assisting Cillian Quinn in a mission, she found herself questioning why she was picked out of all the other members in team Rocket.[break][break]

She'd refuse to admit something like that out loud. However, even with the status she held, in the shadows of Rocket, Summer's powers were limited. She held trade deals and information that was important, but even she was disposable.[break][break]

Their meeting point was at the bottom of Mt. Chimney, where Summer noticed he stood there waiting for her. She gritted her teeth, her jaw clenched, until she stood at his side with her arms crossed.[break][break]

"Good morning. What is our task today?"

Summer could feel herself oozing stress. Whether it was from the conversation or her lack of seeing Gunner from work, or even hormones from her growing child, she did not know. But it was all consuming, threatening to push her over the edge. However, something in the turbulent sea of emotion seemed to calm after he spoke.[break][break]

She brought her gaze back to him, seeing his lips curled into a smile. The waters in her heart were still choppy, but somehow she didn't feel like she was going to drown like she had a moment ago. There was still weight pushing her down, but it was a bit lighter now.[break][break]

"Thank you, Callan."[break][break]

The truth was, Summer didn't want to leave. Leaving meant she had to sit in her thoughts again, alone and waiting. She shook her head, waving a server over and asking to pack her own things in a to go box for later.[break][break]

"No. I already said I'm covering tonight. But, do you want to take a walk when you're done?"

Summer couldn't help an annoyed feeling creeping up. Of course, she understood a little. What if she was seen as competition? Her ultimate goal was to open her shop and partner with creators and designers. This Mila girl was probably the same, though her pieces were hand made.[break][break]

"Not even to teach me the basics of sewing?" One last feeble attempt. Because Summer Prescott didn't even know how to thread a needle.[break][break]

Summer pinned back some of the fabric on the mannequin, hugging the figure just right. She couldn't help a snorting laugh at her comment.[break][break]

"Adorable isn't the word I'd use... but thank you?" Some jewels were placed here and there as she hummed in contemplation. "I'm not one to call my own relationships cute, so if you think a paralegal and a pregnant business woman with a desire for fashion cute, have at it."[break][break]

Their relationship felt so complicated as of late, since Gunner was busy working constantly. She missed him. She missed having time with him, talking about life and what could become of it. His gentle kisses and promises that everything was okay. But could she afford to be selfish and ask him to spare his time away from work to see her even once?[break][break]

"Is the fashion industry all about making things?" Summer asked, tilting her head slightly as she adjusted a few items on the mannequin's wrist. "Fashion is expression too. Styling and wearing. While I'm not talented in creating my own masterpieces from scratch from fabric, I can surely make something new with the pieces I have already, can I not?"

It was rare that Summer would be impressed with someone else's outfit. Typically, others would gawk at her style and ask for her recommendations too high out of their budgets. But this woman had taste.[break][break]

"House of Glaus has an enormous standard to stand up to this year, if I do say so myself. I feel like they'll have an interesting time competing against Mystic Masquerain this year. As for Primarina... I'm interested to see the collection myself."[break][break]

The woman certainly presented with a knowledge that even certain people attending the event didn't have. Summer wondered how invested she was in this field of work.[break][break]

"Casino Starlight!" Summer exclaimed, almost causing a disruption. "My dear friend Killian owned it before you did, Miss Yumi. So you're his successor."[break][break]

Killian Decker. Summer had almost erased the moment she had wandered into that control room drunk and called the admin Killian Dicker. The memory still haunted her to this day, as did the work he put her in to make up for it.[break][break]

"Ah, my apologies. I got excited. My name is Summer Prescott. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Hasegawa."

Summer listened to him with furrowed brows. Of course, she understood that Callan would be uncomfortable stepping beyond something that they'd once had. But, at least in her mind, things between them hadn't changed much with what she asked for. Unless her judgement was clouded by something else she didn't realize was there.[break][break]

But what really struck a chord in her was his questioning of Gunner. Was he assuming that she was here against his back, to bring some sort of rise out of him?[break][break]

In the past, Summer would do that sort of thing for attention. But in a devoted relationship, and certainly one with Gunner, she wouldn't ever hurt him like that. No secret was held against him.[break][break]

Except the biggest one of all: her allegiance to team Rocket.[break][break]

"I don't know if I was clear or not when I spoke. I'm not asking for much to change, Callan. All I want is a friend right now," she reiterated plainly without added words or floral details.[break][break]

"As for Gunner, I don't lie to him." A lie. She's been lying the entire time. "I told him the truth. I was meeting you to catch up. He's an important person to me, and I wouldn't do anything to hurt him." On purpose.[break][break]

Summer sighed, taking her hand that had been stretched out and raking both of them through her hair. Suddenly, her drive to eat was gone. Maybe she'd just get the food to go. "I just wanted to see how you were and talk, Callan. There's nothing behind the scenes going on. I'm sorry for complicating things."

Summer wouldn't say she had skill in creating new clothes. But she knew how to dress up a person with different items of clothing and jewelry. Accessorizing was also a skill she had.[break][break]

"Do you think you could teach me a thing or two about making clothes?" she asked as she straightened the outfit onto the mannequin.[break][break]

"He's not in the industry. He works for a law firm as a paralegal. As for my stuff, he's seen my style. He's definitely supportive of my endeavors."[break][break]

Ah, a question Summer knew she'd be asked a lot. "I've donated quite a large amount to charity. But I wanted to save a few items as stock for my store, if that makes sense. I don't have talent in making things. I wasn't supposed to be doing this, according to my father. They're my starter items, unworn and unused."

"What I've learned is every profession has vultures. You deal with them as they come, one way or another. I don't care what people have to say for me, so long as I make a name for myself," Summer said with finality.[break][break]

However, seeing Mila walking around prompted Summer to get to work. She stood, taking a second to avoid any dizziness or nausea that ran to her head, and settled for a mannequin nearby. Wheeling it over, she began to work a few pieces onto it.[break][break]

"So you have an upper hand in these things. What I mean, you know what you're doing. Five years is still experience," she said, giving her a look with her eyebrow raised.[break][break]

"I wanted to try something new. I've always been into fashion. Slateport Fashion Week, galas, you name it. And I mentioned to my boyfriend that my company wasn't making me happy like it once was. His encouragement really helped me decide to do this. So, I decided to open my own boutique. I have a million outfits I've never worn, and I want to do something to make myself happy instead of drowning myself in paperwork all the time."

Summer offered a smile, smoothing down some of the material of her dress as the woman analyzed it with quite the detailed eye. Though it was an outfit she liked, it wasn't a risqué piece she'd normally go for. When she was getting ready, she felt herself hold back.[break][break]

Perhaps because she was in a relationship, no matter how strained it was. And she was pregnant. Would it be unbefitting for her child to look back at his or her mother and see her showing off her breasts during her pregnancy? The thought made her determine this was a better choice.[break][break]

She'd even sent a photo to Gunner, hoping he'd have some time to react to it at some point.[break][break]

"Thank you. It's been sitting in my closet for a while now, so I thought it was time to pull it out. Yours is a lovely piece too. The sleeves hanging at the sides instead of your shoulders. Do they have something sticky to hold them in place to make sure they don't fall? I haven't seen them slip once since you've sat down."[break][break]

Summer watched a few more models trek up and down the runway. Nothing yet.[break][break]

"I want something new and fresh. I feel like everything I've seen so far has been done before, or it looks like it's cheaply done. It's not what I'm hoping for. I want a designer's style to catch my eye and say, 'this is the line you've been waiting for,'" she said, her hands waving in the air for emphasis.[break][break]

A glance to the woman. "Have you been here before? Who's style has been a favorite of yours?"

It never fails to bring a feeling of pride and egotism when someone recognizes her, either by face or name. Summer held back the attempt to smirk and say "of course I am." She was here to build friendships and alliances.[break][break]

This wasn't the business world. She needed partnerships and anyone who'd be willing to join her for collaboration.[break][break]

"Trust me, I've already been sent several articles. I don't really give a damn what the press or business community says, though." She gave a scoff, rolling her eyes at the thought of them. Cretins, vermin. All of them.[break][break]

Mila offered her hand, so amicably, she took it, shaking it formally. "Nice to meet you as well. How long have you been doing this?"
