After his many iterations within the RKS Simulation, Barnaby now knew one thing for certain:[break][break]

This technology was dangerous.

It could tap into its user's memories and recreate them. Worse still, it was likely that the DRK Triad could somehow access this information, too, if Maldacena's warning rang true.[break][break]

This realization made Barnaby wary of returning. Digging deeper than that, however, was a resistance to experiencing moments from his past again. He'd blocked so many from his memory, like the one now freshly recollected.[break][break]

Hollowly, Cillian Quinn's question hung in the air between them. Barnaby didn't reply right away. Instead, his eyes appeared unfocused on the underboss.[break][break]

Distant, forlorn. [break][break]

"... just something from my childhood. Nothing monumental, though. Odd..." He finally muttered, shaking his head to try and rid it of the tiny, terrified face imprinted there.[break][break]

"Is that a challenge?" He asked Cillian, arching a provocative brow in retaliation. "You should know that riding wild beasts is one of my favorite pastimes."[break][break]

In Slateport on business for HNN, BARNABY FINCH had decided to check out the local carnival at the end of the day (once he was able to sneak away from his coworkers).[break][break]

Accompanying him was his ever-effervescent companion, Pepin the EEVEE. This was just the sort of environment the Pokémon loved, filled with people and colorful amusements to experience and enjoy.[break][break]

In all his excitement, Pepin leapt from Barnaby's shoulder and bolted ahead into the crowd. Unbothered by this, the journalist continued to leisurely stroll forward, perusing the nearby booths as he did so. Barnaby even stopped for a moment to watch a MR. MIME and it's trainer perform a mime act together.[break][break]

He trusted Pepin to come back within a moment or two. The EEVEE was impulsive but loyal; he could handle himself and knew Barnaby's expectations for him.

Another familiar scene materialized around them. Fuschia City, sometime in the past during ROCKET's takeover of Kanto. Barnaby recognized the younger declan walsh from when he happened upon this scenario with jayden cross.[break][break]

"What do you suppose he means by the real him?" Barnaby posed the question to Zev Harcourt, realizing how odd the phrasing sounded this time around. Was it simply just in reference to the mirrored copies surrounding them?[break][break]

The ROCKET Admin/Boss gave them no choice but to go on the offensive. He was immediately aggressive, striking out from the mirrors with his Pokémon, which begged a second question...[break][break]

Pushing himself off the pillar (while simultaneously avoiding Pepin's excited scrambling upon seeing his master), Barnaby strode through his kitchen and plucked a glass from one of the cupboards and an appropriate red wine from the rack on the counter.[break][break]

They'd each have a bottle of their own. It was that sort of night, Barnaby figured.[break][break]
