It's irrelevant. It doesn't matter how expert Ollie's hands are from the years of him being a ranger alongside Laurence Anderson; it doesn't matter how much of illeana reyes's healing powers would be able to rouse it. The Persian comes back to life and there is a brief moment of respite, before suddenly the wild cat is growling and snarling with all the vehemence of a ruined beast, it's fangs sinking deep into Ollie's forearm.

[break][break] Panic suddenly rises fast and true in Ollie's chest, reminded of that moment on the shores of that mythical island, from the time that Cillian Quinn resurrected Nugget.

[break][break] And just like that day, the Persian disappears the second the wisp disappears into the sea, and the world vanishes as the simulation shifts into the next stage.

[break][break] Ollie can still see the nightmare behind his eyes when the pixels spread into a nighttime sky. He looks down at his arm and finds nothing, no gash-wound where it should be.

[break][break] It's jarring to say the least.

[break][break] "Where... where are we?" he asks, brow furrowing. "Woah!"

[break][break] Suddenly the ground lurches from beneath. And then there is a massive hand reaching for them.

[break][break] Ollie is quick to react. The ship rocks with the heavy weight of his Venusaur, who's vines reach out towards the hands with a PROTECT.

Though he would've probably done whatever illeana reyes said, he's secretly glad that she agrees with him. Killing Slowpoke tails for sport - or even for food - just made his stomach turn in an uneasy way.

[break][break] Unlucky for them, though, the Butcher doesn't agree. He shouts at them, spittle flying from his fat lip, and Ollie winces.

[break][break] "H-hey, we can talk about .. oi!"

[break][break] When the Butcher throws a knife at them, snarling, Ollie grabs Illie and ducks them both down from the damaging weapon. He snaps his head behind him, eyes wide as he notices the notch it's made in the wall.

[break][break] "W-well, let's go Illie!"

[break][break] The Head Ranger is quick to leap away when the opportunity presents itself, dissolving into the next portal.

[break][break] The sight that greets them next is... breathtaking. Or it might be, with the open skies and endless sea, if not for the sight of withered Crystablooms around the island.

[break][break] As a Ranger, Ollie is - of course - drawn to the pokemon that lays beneath the shore. Wisps of something malevolent and untamed ripple outwards from it's cream-colored body but Ollie is unafraid. He'd touched many a feral pokemon before.

[break][break] his words lash out like a firecracker, heated both because of the reminder of the deed that she'd done and from her ENVY that suddenly coursed through his veins.

[break][break] ollie hated everything about this moment, this party, and the circumstances that had led him to believe that PENELOPE LIVY would care about him the way she cared about other people — the constant way she looked after the people of hoenn, confided in everyone but him, and even the way she once cared for a man with scorching red hair and amber eyes that burned.

[break][break] he despised it all but most of all, the resentment in his heart that had reached a boiling point.

[break][break] hatred spilled into love ignited back into a fire that burned when ollie suddenly lurched forward, grasping her jaw as his lips pressed fervently against hers, spilling all the burning, complicated feelings into the intensity of the kiss. he hated everything and himself most of all, but what he needed now was for her to understand. it didn't matter who he looked at. it didn't matter who he kissed. everything - all his hate and love and hate - would always come back to one thing.

Ignorant to the attention that his friend was giving him, Ollie crouched gold-touched in the sunlight, smiling bright, as if blessed by something that was greater than God.

[break][break] The Horsea squealed first with surprise before then letting out a noise of release as the healing pulse wandered over his body, filling in the tiny cuts and crevices caused by human's worst design. It stitched him true and healed him whole, so that when Ollie leaped to his feet, he was more than pleased.

[break][break] "Thanks," he said, cheeks dimpling, as a pokeball pressed against the Horsea's spine. One more for Pokemon Home. Melody Miro would be pleased.

[break][break] But of course, a Ranger's work could never end.

[break][break] A sudden beep on his watch alerted him that there were more pokemon in need. A nearby civilian spoke swiftly of a bee-infested cabin that was - ironically - only a few yards away. They could get rid of the pests and in exchange, have more pokemon for the Pokemon Home project too.

[break][break] Ollie's eyes find his, amber-gold in the sunshine.
