It'd been a minute since Lam had the chance to take on a gym as a challenger since he'd taken over things in Lilycove.[break][break]
Eventually, though, he carved out the time to make his way over to Littleroot. Allllll the way out to the tiny town tucked on the western side of the region.[break][break]
The library set up was sort of nostalgic. The moment he walked through the doors to the quaint little building, he was hit with that old, familiar and sort of bittersweet feeling. It reminded him of the time he spent at the one in his hometown as a kid. Pouring over book about flying-types after school while his dad was still at work. It was a warm recollection. A fond one that settled in as she wandered the shelves as he waited for the gym leader to arrive.[break][break]
His fingers absently drifted over the spines of books that were stacked neatly in rows on a variety of subjects. Absently, he thought that maybe he should get a new library card when the got back to Lilycove later that day.

Lateness wasn't something that tended to bother Lam. He was usually the one running behind, after all. And the way he saw it, this gave him a free day off from the steady swing of daily gym challenges. though he enjoys his job...it was still a nice breather.[break][break]

So when Genny calls out in apology, Lam waves a hand in lazy dismissal. "Don't even worry about it! I'm sure you earned the extra z's." Tapping the dachsbun affectionately, Bagel Bite rolls off his legs so that he can stand again. His arms stretch up over his head to loosen his sleepy muscles.[break][break]
It was easy to tell that Genny was much more her typical, sunny self again. The apprehension he'd felt on their last excursion fades away under the brightness of her smile.[break][break]
It's a relief, really. To see his best friend happy and cheerful again.[break][break]
The dachsbun wuffs as she trots up to greet Genny's trio. "You look well!" he can't help but comment as his own grin widens to mirror hers. He adjusts the brim of his baseball cap before his hands settle on his hips confidently. "Probably helps that the trip was close to home this time." A nice little jaunt, though the proximity to Lilycove raises more than a few concerns to address.

Lam rolls his eyes - easy going, though, as he grins. "Traveling isn't that difficult." Even if it's a bit far, it's not like he's going to a completely different region.[break][break]
"We're buds, I'm not gonna ditch you." His brow lifts curiously before another teasing smile tugs his mouth. "Aww, you worried I'll forget about ya? That's sweet."[break][break]
his tone makes it clear that he's only kidding. For real, though, he's not worried. He's not apt to shrug off friends just because they're not close by.[break][break]
"Will do. Between me n' Rook, we've probably got more stuff than we even realize." He snorts, "'Course you're invited - if you can handle that commute that's just so far."

Lam's eyes narrow at Matias as he offers his defense. "Did you, though?" Skepticism slips into his voice. Of course he didn't need more firepower.[break][break]
His attention swivels to Kyle, and he offers a playful shrug in response, smile pulling up in a lopsided twist. "Shocking, I know." Lam remains oblivious to the top champion's suspicions about his more trusting nature. It likely wouldn't take much to figure out he's right on the money about it.[break][break]
The dachsbun he was treating is soon recalled as a pair of manectric take the opposite side of the pitch. Rather than any of the birds he's prone using, a sandaconda and clefairy take the field. Spurred to assist her teammate, the clefairy's FRIEND GUARD activates in a protective shroud.[break][break]
The offer draws a laugh. "Isn't that supposed to be my line, here?" He's not going to look a gifthorse in the mouth, though. "Alright, guys - sugar 'n spice, okay?" It's the only cue the pair needs.[break][break]
The clefairy obliges first as she skips cheerfully up to the darker-furred manectric to gift it with a SWEET KISS of greeting before toddling away again. The sandaconda, far less amenable, follows in her wake - and greets the regular manectric sharply as its tail snaps out in a BRUTAL SWING at its forepaws.

[attr="class","text"] The double-edged attack finds its mark, though not without winding the brightly hued zigzagoon. Before Jam Jam can safely retreat to his side, the vaporeon's retaliation knocks into him, and completely sweeps him off his feet in a volley of irritated splashes.[break][break]

"Rebound, Jam Jam!" he calls out to the zigzagoon who lets out an angry titter as he tries to shake the silty, muddy water from his fur. "Do some uprooting!" His fluffy body wiggles, and Jam Jam darts forward again toward the source of the wave that bowled him over. Roots pull from the earth and crawl ahead of him toward the vaporeon. Dense tangles of foliage anchor from the source, the GRASS KNOT attempting to pull Slushie off of her feet.[break][break]

Mallow, having fluttered up to avoid the nasty tide, resettled on the pitch with an irritated coo. There was nothing the altaria hated more than having the soft white feathers of her wispy wings sullied with mud and detritus. Shaking them out as if attempting to shake of the dust that had never graced them, she observes the flickering in the dragonair's light screen and seeks her opening.[break][break]

She finds it in the right moment - the haze parting for a flash of blue and a crackle of lightning. Unfortunately for the avian dragon, the thunder wave travels straight for her and volts up her dainty, taloned feet in tandem with the MOONBLAST she fires off toward Aeris.[break][break]

The shimmering pink beam cuts straight, though, but her satisfaction is short-lived as her limbs lock with the lingering shock to her system.

Lam definitely did not carry cuffs with him—even for the panache and flair of it. Stepping back, he hefted the other back to his feet. If he was going to pull a fast one, Lam was sure he would’ve done so at that moment, if not before.[break][break]
A brow lifted at the mention of Sootopolis. Well, he wasn’t about to attempt teleporting there, in the middle of Rocket-occupied turf. Luckily, the other didn’t seem keen to get back to the city, either. Lam puffed out a breath, and mulled it over. A slow nod as he tried to figure out what would be best.[break][break]
“We’ll just go back to the nearest base, I guess. Figure out where to go from there.” Maybe he’d be reprimanded for being so benevolent, but the steadiness in the guy’s stare assured him that he was not trying to pull one over on Lam. “There’s programs and shit, y’know? Stuff that can help you get your feet under you. Get you someplace to stay.”[break][break]
Maybe dropping him with ollie morales would be smart.[break][break]
“Lumi, you know the gig.” The xatu cooed, and though she was trying to be friendly, she still looked supremely unnerving in the long run. She came by it honestly. Her wings extended and then curled around the pair before her eyes glowed red again, TELEPORTING them off the beach and further into claimed League territory.[break][break]
Before he left Dwayne there to return to his patrolling, Lam cracked a somewhat sheepish grin. “Sorry about the theatrics, by the way. Gotta really sell—but don’t make me regret this.” He paused, and left him with one last after thought. “I’m the gym leader over in Lilycove. You ever need a hand, you can find me there. Sound good?”

“Hm.” Maybe it would come back to bite him later, but rather than knock the poor guy down more, or slap him with a citizen’s arrest, Lam shifted on his feet and then offered him a hand to pull him up if he took it.[break][break]
“Alright.” For some inexplicable reason, he believed the stranger. “Where ya live, kid?” Because that’s what he looked like, didn’t he? Barely older than a teenager, out of his depth and in over his head. Green eyes cut to his xatu in subtle acknowledgement, and though Lumi still hovered beside them, she stood down.

Suddenly, the Iron Bundle didn’t seem quite like enough. Maybe he wasn’t quite versed in working with the robotic bird yet. To be safe, as Lars’ salazzle slunk forward ahead of them again, Lam released a second pokemon. The galarian zigzagoon yipped excitedly, his raspberry pink and white fur bristling with excitement.[break][break]
A tera orb was pulled from his pocket, activated in a fluid motion to encase Jam Jam in a bright, shimmering light that left him crystallized in a violet hue. The blazing glow of the salazzle’s FLAMETHROWER reflected off of the zigzagoon’s terastralized exterior.[break][break]
Following Lars’ lead with a nod of agreement, he ushered Jam Jam to make use of the surprise launched by the salazzle, and he aimed a hefty GUNK SHOT at the first of the rockets’ pokemon he encountered—luckily, an unsuspecting Aromatisse that shrieked as toxic goo spattered its soft, pink fur.[break][break]
“Set up a defense for us!” he instructed the Iron Bundle meanwhile, and the bird seemed to register the command with more automated quarks of sound before its eyes closed with blue light. As the group came down on the rockets, an array of gradient, colorful light fell and shrouded them in an AURORA VEIL.
