It wouldn’t take too long before he would eventually recall the Gyarados and leave the Hydreigon out before they finally slowed down and he could slither to the ground; gasping out of sheer, utter terror.

He thought he saw something through the dense, thick white fog when he heard a familiar voice calling to him—wait, was that another one of the tricks the fog was trying to entice him to fall for?!

No, wait, it was…

“Miss Elise?!” he exclaimed, letting out the biggest sigh of relief he didn’t realize he was holding in.

“I am so f—fucking glad to see you!” he wailed before approaching her and just. Shaking like a leaf.

His Hydreigon, on the other hand, could only sigh out of exasperation. Some tough guy his human companion claimed to be!

Putting him, ghosts, and Mount Pyre in the same sentence (or location, even) was bound to end all in disaster…

For now he was being chased by spirits that looked… less than human. Oh, no!

“A-a-a-a-a-a-are you k-k-k-k-k-kidding me?!” he whined, the last part of his sentence drawn out like a wail. And much like the malefic energy they represented, the specters were hissing. Hissing his way, however they were speaking… huh. He couldn’t understand what they were saying! What was up with that?

Were they whispering things unknown to him, or were they warning him? Who knows?!

“No, no, no, no, shoo!” he wailed, quickly pulling out two Pokéballs and then flicking them forward at random; finding himself with Hera the Gyarados, who roared at the spirits upon emerging; and his yet-to-be-named Hydreigon, whose mouth-hands began snapping angrily at the specters.

“G-get them away from me!”

Before long, the Gyarados would roar again; before unleashing a powerful burst of Hydro Pump at the other malevolent specters that were gathering; and he had a moment’s notice before the Hydreigon’s tail lashed down against the ground as he made a flying leap and got on the draconid’s back to ride out the Earthquake that shook the immediate vicinity, as if warning the corrupted specters to stay the hell away from them.

“L-let’s get out of here! H-Hera, help!” he stammered, as the Hydreigon made to escape the rampaging Gyarados who then fired off Ice Beam, afterward snapping and biting at any spectral being that dared come too close.

Several minutes after him and the Hydreigon had disappeared into the rolling fog, the Gyarados would catch up with them; at least they were on the right path!

…somehow.

Why did he feel like he was being chased by that masked killer from a certain movie franchise that made phone calls before attacking the longer he wandered through this mess of a maze…

He was deliberating laying down a piece of red string to mark his path so far, however he had a feeling that there were more malevolent forces at play…

“Come on, come on, come on,” he hissed, closing his eyes as he tried to calm himself down and tried to reorient himself.

The next thing he comprehends after fleeing those creepy ‘ruins’ is another Hoenn; it reminds him of the time when Mount Chimney almost blew up in the middle of the night, and his friend had come out of it with a selfie that had a rampaging ‘legendary Pokémon’ in the background…

“I know you,” he began quietly the moment he realized who his friend was talking to… it was…

It was the very same man that he’d encountered at Mount Chimney when he’d brought the drum from another realm there.

Looking over at what had seemingly appeared near them, he shook his head.

“Why would we destroy something sacred to you?” he followed up Remiel’s statement in agreement. Oh, the things he knew about Mount Chimney…

“I don’t want to blow up an active volcano. No way,” he added with a shake of his head.

If he had only been slightly afraid of the dark, then running through the damned simulation would only make things a whole lot worse, all things considered—

As the floor began to crumble, he had to bite down a scream because holy shit on a stick, why did everything in here feel so real?!

“Come on, come on, come on! No time to dawdle around!” he yelled as he closed the distance between himself and his companion—and whether the other would like it or not, he would attempt to pick the younger man up and make a break for it as fast as his long legs could carry him.

However, the land would eventually recede and crumble to nothing, which would mean they would fall into another chamber; never mind if he’d almost crash-landed, fact of the matter was that the Unown were spelling out creepy words all over the place.

“Clearly that shit’s not a riddle!” he exclaimed.

‘Coming down, from the top rope, it’s Hawlucha with—’

The imaginary commentary in the Hawlucha’s head would eventually get cut off the moment he realized that the Blissey—of all things, a Blissey, had managed to imitate his signature move and—

And knock him down!

The commentary had suddenly cut off before it could get to the good part, and before he landed flat on his back, he saw a flash of pink—and then a flash of red light absorbed him back into his Pokéball to rest.

Looking over at the Blissey from the opposite side of the field, he assessed the situation—who knew that Blissey were that durable?!

“Took splash damage from the Explosion earlier to the face, along with that whittle damage from my Hawlucha since the start of the match; and she’s still standing? What is your Blissey made of, Iron supplements?!” he teased as he approached her once he’d crossed the arena to get to her side.

“Because for your first time battling, you did exceptionally well.”

He was already holding something small and cold in his other hand, before he gestured to her to hold out her free hand (without letting go of the Skitty, of course).

“I can guarantee, everyone else’s Gym that you’re going to tackle—should you go in that direction—won’t know what’s going to hit them! While your strategy is rather reckless, it still worked nonetheless.”


Once he was done, she would find in her hands—the Skyrider Badge.

“Congratulations!”

At this point, he’d already cleared the final obstacle and was waiting outside with his relieved Flygon who was now doing loop-de-loops in mid-air; while waiting for their challenger of the day to come out…

It wouldn’t take too long for something to happen; and that something would be the sound of a cable snapping. Maybe it had gotten snagged on the other Flygon’s tail, maybe it had tripped one of the other wires, however the singular snapping noise…

…would give way to a sudden series of snapping noises from within the obstacle—

“Shalin, get out of there now!” he yelled the moment he heard the crackling in his ear and the panicked shouting coming through the reception; hopefully the other was fast enough to get out of the series of snapping noises getting louder and louder the longer they took…

Hopefully, once they were both out—the snapping noises would come to a stop; however there would be a certain section of the entire course that now looked like a tangled ball of yarn…

“You cut it too close! Even for someone who’s managed to finish this non-trad, the set up of obstacles was wild… and for the record, I was not involved with choosing any of them! It’s all randomized!” he wheezed the moment the other would get close.

He would then make a gesture for her to hold out her hand—

“You know, if you weren’t too busy riding, or trying to ride every single ridable thing that exists in the Pokéverse I’d ask you to take a part-time shift or two out here as a Gym Trainer, but I know you have other engagements to deal with, so…”

Once she would hold out her hand, he would drop something small and cold in it.


“Honestly, I have no words for your style of flying. Definitely wilder than me, that’s for sure! And you thought I was weird for doing this without a saddle…”

He let a few moments of silence pass.

“Congratulations on earning the Skyrider Badge!”

Why did it feel like he was walking around in circles for the past few hours?! Ugh, was he lost?

He could see his breath misting in front of him as he came to a stop—hadn’t he passed that tree several times already?!

  • 1. FORTREE GYM: BUSINESS, AS ALWAYS (and forevermore)[break]
    Challengers come and go through the halls of the Fortree Rescue & Treatment Sanctuary (a.k.a. the Fortree Gym), however things have been taking a rather… dark turn as of late. All things considered, while he thought Fortree was unreachable by Team Rocket’s influence, well, that all came crashing down the moment his ex, , shows up at the Gym’s doorstep.[break][break]

    While initially, things were going fine, an abrupt turn happened and now the battle lines, the inevitable battle lines, have been drawn. He now knows that his ex-partner from long ago (from just before the time he was announced as Fortree’s Gym Leader, to give an approximate timeline) is part of Team Rocket, and the shaky ‘friendship’ they had after their break-up is not going to survive the encounter.[break][break]

    All this is happening in: windbloom.[break][break]

    Challenges that have been completed between then and now include:

  • 2. LEAGUE WORK, AND MORE QUESTIONS[break]
    The visits into the Ultra Deep Sea continue; and most of the times he’s down there in the literal belly of the beast, well… it doesn’t help his anxiety one bit. Now that he’s fully aware that they’re inside the belly of a literal monster that might suddenly just squirm and digest them, he’s not too keen on visiting the place again; however science and necessity from the League deems it necessary for him to literally face his fears in the worst way possible.[break][break]

    Despite the multiple visits into the place, he’s strengthened his connections with Miss as well as Miss , even offering the latter to meet outside of the situation they’d found themselves in, whittling away at mineral deposits to take back for further study.[break][break]

    Excursions that have been completed include:

    Additionally, now that the question of Dynamax spots had come up, he is on the side of the fence where this strange, ‘new’ phenomenon should be studied first before just rushing into it all willy-nilly; because as a conservationist he also cares about Pokémon—seeing as he oversees the Sanctuary’s operations in Fortree alongside his Gym Leader duties as shown here as well as here.[break][break]

    (And then there’s the little surprise of him finding out through the gym leader chat much later that Miss Desiree, as well as Miss Elise have minor league gyms of their own.)[break][break]

    Now that the RKS simulations have opened for the League, he is also looking to resume the search for clues regarding his djinni companion—heck, him and have agreed to run through the simulation as many times as needed, since they’re both looking for answers to the respective ‘secrets’ that they have with them (Uxie for Hideo, not that Alex knows about it yet, and his very own Tornadus).


  • 3. CONNECTIONS DEEPEN, AND THE EVERYDAY LIFE[break]
    Despite his obvious affiliation with his froggy partner and love of his life , Alex here has strengthened his connection with Miss in particular especially in the aftermath of the alternate Galar happening and changing their outlook on the world in more ways than one.[break][break]

    Maybe there was something lingering from the time they were blasted into that alternate Galar, or maybe it’s because she reminds him of one of his two sisters is why he would bend over as much as he can to help her out—especially when is busy with other things taking up his time.[break][break]

    Hell, the moment he’d been informed that she was kidnapped, he wasted no time to make the trip in her cousin’s place and get her the hell out of where she’d been left—never mind if he intimidated a poor Team Rocket mook along the way with his angy angry angery Salamence.[break][break]

    They also have their own downtime moments too, with her teaching him about the Galarian Farfetch’d variant that he finds absolutely hilarious, alongside with learning that there is actually a certain Pokémon that is both Ice and Dragon-type (the poor thing).[break][break]

    Alex also made true on his promise to to meet outside of the interesting ‘situation’ they previously found themselves in, and he’s touring her around the Sanctuary, which is a nice and absolutely welcome change of pace from the time that they had first met each other in the Ultra Deep Sea.[break][break]

    Another old friend makes a reappearance in his life, none other than good ol’ , who gave him the rundown of what happened during BMI and had to deliver the not-so-savory news that the Megalopolans the ‘space cannibals’ have returned, and may be looking to encroach on Fortree’s borders due to proximity and location.[break][break]

    He is also finding it rather difficult to comprehend that his friend had been part of Team Rocket previously, however Alex just happens to be one of those people that takes whatever confession is thrown at them; comprehending and understanding what happened. The two friends actually talk about and make a postulated guess that miss is no longer of this world, all things considered—yet he will always be ready to help the other out at a moment’s notice, big secrets aside.

For once, for fuggin’ once, he stopped to stare for a few moments.

“You have no idea how much that means to me, Miss Desiree,” he admitted from his side of the field. While he was aware that his two Pokémon were fighting as hard as they could, he very nearly missed the cue that the Minior was up to something—

The Gliscor realized what was about to happen, and attempted to Screech in the two pink Pokémon’s direction before being caught up directly in the explosive attack!

“Whoa, what was—” he blinked, realizing that a sudden flash-bang equivalent of light had gone off, but in a violently shade of pink rather than the usual white shook the entire battlefield!

He barely got his arms up to his eyes in time—the afterglare coming from this was going to be extremely bright!

Once he’d managed to clear his eyeballs out some, his Gliscor had crash-landed on the ground with no fight left in him; which left the severely-exhausted Hawlucha wibbling, wobbling on his two feet, before being forced backwards by the second instance of Disarming Voice, hating the way it echoed in his ears.

“Come on, I know you’re not going to quit over that!” he exclaimed in the dual-type’s direction; before watching the Hawlucha square his shoulders and took a running start—before launching himself into a Flying Press situation.

Wow, that Blissey was hella stubborn…!


Gliscor and Hawlucha are is out on the field!

Gliscor attempted to Screech across the opposite side of the battlefield before being wiped out by the Explosive attack!

Hawlucha is dangerously close to being knocked out; however in a show of pride he doesn’t back down from the Disarming Voice, taking it head-on before going into a Flying Press attack on the Blissey!

They were both definitely struggling at this point—after three successive insane obstacles, this last one was meant to be more of a reprieve—but it almost also proved to be ’s undoing had he not noticed the cable that had snagged around—

Okay, to be fair, it was either him or the Golurk that would’ve gotten stuck had they not noticed in time that they were going to get strangled by accident!

With the way the ropes were all crossed together, it would prove to be difficult—even for Alex himself—to maneuver through this last obstacle! At least the good thing about this was that they could finally catch their breath before clearing this last hurdle—

For the greenette, the penultimate hurdle would present itself to be some of the thinner, finer cables snagging on her Flygon’s tail; should they inch forward with sudden movement, then they might get bucked off and tangled themselves on the obstacle altogether!

The last stretch, the long haul, before—

A sudden blob of dirt and muck struck both the Noivern and rider the longer they delayed out there—because the more the wind began picking up, the stronger the rain would become.

And the rumbling would be a cue for them to get the fuck out of there!

He’d already cleared the final obstacle and was waiting for her to catch up when he squinted back towards the torrential downpour—and saw that she’d run into a smidge more of bad luck!

“Come on, Miss Elise! You can do it!” he cheered from his own Noivern, who was now coasting on an updraft while he waited for her to emerge.

When she would finally emerge from the downpour, he would immediately call for blankets and hot chocolate—as well as tea, knowing her—before pointing her downwards towards the very same waiting shed where he’d taken the younger Josh after the other had gotten struck during his challenge.

“I’ll meet you down there!” he called as his Noivern then took a tight turn; several in fact, before finally coming to a landing and letting him slide off, before shaking his wings once he was out of splatter range.

The blankets and the hot drinks were waiting for them in the waiting shed once she would arrive, and he was already holding something small, and cold in his hands.

“One thing’s for sure: you had a better success rate than little Josh did. He literally drew a big, fat zero when he completed his run of the obstacle course! I mean, you’ve seen the replay reel, right?” he cackled.

“Another thing, you didn’t give up, even in the face of the odds stacked against you. For perseverance, keeping calm and not losing your head… hold out your hand.”

Once she would do so, he would drop the special something into it.


“Congratulations! You’ve won the Skyrider Badge.”

It would take a miracle for him to find his way out of the disorienting… fog.

The gloomy atmosphere was rolling in, all things considered—even though he knew the holidays were in full swing; this was why he always left all the scary spooky stuff to because he knew the other would take to Halloween like a fish to water!

Whereas he… him… well, he would be the specter under a sheet, only shooting up as he grew taller before he was banned from ever going out of the house and—

“Get a hold of yourself, bitch,” he growled, slapping his cheeks to focus.

Okay, how was he going to get out of this maze? Everything was starting to blur together…!

“All’s fair in love, war, and contests, right?” he added with this grin on his face; looking over to what his Pokémon were doing right now.

While the Hawlucha had managed to score a direct hit on the Blissey, the sudden noise coming from the pink egg Pokémon threw him off-balance; because holy shit what was that noise?! Why was his head starting to spin?!

“Snap out of it!” he whistled in the Hawlucha’s direction; while the Gliscor got pummeled full in the face (and body) by the Power Gem attack; before closing the distance and attempting to smash into the Minior with an X-Scissor attack coming from the pincers!

(Never mind that the Gliscor was starting to feel woozy right about now; aftereffects of being poisoned.)

Once the Hawlucha had shaken his head to clear out the ringing in his ears, he would then close the distance and attempt to land a Drain Punch on the Blissey—seeing as they’d healed themselves up; why not try to flip the tables on them again?

“You’re doing a great job so far!” he called out from his side of the field.

“My Hawlucha’s actually forced to think now, all things considered! Plus—bringing a Blissey to a fight will swing the odds in your favor when you time things right.”


Gliscor and Hawlucha are out on the field!

Hawlucha is caught off-guard by the Disarming Voice, getting disoriented as the attack sinks in! Gliscor, on the other hand, is hanging on like a champ however the effects of being poisoned is starting to sink in—

Hawlucha then used Drain Punch on the Blissey; while Gliscor used X-Scissor on the Minior!
