Easy Peasy, Sea-Breezy! [SW]

today could be described simply: fishing with friends day! as in, momo plans to go fishing, but she also plans on catching a new pokemon, and bringing home a new friend as well. setting up a spot on slateport beach, momo casts a rod and anchors it in the sand afterward, waiting for something to catch. then she brings out her two best pokemon friends in the world out to play! "aimi and silque, come on out!" the tinkaton and the sylveon, respectively, appear from their poke balls. their cries are cute and bright as they greet their trainer, and momo peppers them both with big fat kisses—smothering them with hugs and squeezing them as tight as her little arms will allow. [break][break]

it's not until aimi playfully bonks momo with the the side of her hammer does momo realize what it's trying to convey to her: the line is moving! momo gasps and picks up her rod from the sand, pulling with all her might! aimi comes up behind her and tugs, as well, and together the two pink girls pull something out of the sea!! [break][break]

"aw, it's just a boot." and an old leather one, at that, not even a matching pair! gross! momo leaves it on the side of the beach for now, ready to throw it away once she's done here. with a sigh, she resets her fishing rod with new bait, and waits for the next pull on the wire. [break][break]

silque the sylveon, however, has another idea in mind. the ribbon pokemon cries softly, and tugs its trainer to look at the end of the beach, where a wild pokemon is seen walking along the sand. "oh?" momo looks through her pair of binoculars (gotta be prepared for anything, after all) to see just what kind of pokemon it is, and whether it's a potential friend or not...

momo missed home. it wasn't as though she denied this sentiment often, yet she wasn't always honest about her origin, to start with. kanto was the cautionary tale that team rocket spun for itself, the proof of an ambition strong enough to topple an entire region—the cruelty of many hearts to see hte ambition through. while she'd never fully accept what happened to kanto, she couldn't completely cut off ties to her home region, either. [break][break]

but when she visited rustboro city, she heard tell of a store that featured imported goods from kanto. while momo was excited at the prospect, the locals were less eager to mention it, as though such a storefront was a stain on the city's good name rather than a sparkling accomplishment. the dodgy talk of the place was enough to ward most others away, but not momo. [break][break]

matsubara generals. even the name reminded her of some storefronts back in kanto, her heart yearning for simpler days. she wasn't sure what she'd find inside, but if it was anything even remotely close to home, she'd be all the more happy for it. [break][break]

opening the door heralded the sound of a ringing bell, and momo smiled as she entered, giving a nod to the young man sitting behind the counter. "hello," she said to him in polite greeting. "oh!" she drifted closer to the memorial section, smile faltering with reverence as she looked upon the fixtures, hands slowly hovering over the kantonian-styled aspects of it all. "ah, this...it's been a while since i've seen anything like this," she mused aloud.

when maki speaks, momo finds herself surprised at how strangely magnetic she is. she exudes an air of refinement and elegance that momo finds enviable but also admirable, practiced in the way she carries herself, a steady lull and rhythm that contrasts against momo's sporadic bursts of energy. [break][break]

"it's nice to meet you, maki! and you've got that right, though i've still got a long way to go before i can call myself a pro, hehe." which is true enough, since momo's last home, the kanto region, hadn't exactly been known for their contest scene. hoenn is a different beast altogether, though, and despite everything the region has been through, its upkeep of its flashy contest system still remains. "but thanks! what about you, are you a trainer? because your houndoom looks—" scary, momo thinks inwardly— "experienced! and really strong!" [break][break]

at the same time, momo's pokemon are also wary of the others, but in different ways. silque the sylveon looks innocently intrigued by maki and her pokemon, while aimi the tinkaton looks naughty and stances itself in a way that implies it's ready to fight at a moment's notice. [break][break]

wow. even just by sitting there and smiling, julie has this wonderful aura to her, breath-taking and charming and sweet in the way that she doesn't even bat an eye at being seen in public. oh, but this has got to be a common occurrence for her, right? how could anyone not recognize her in public, anyway? the only thing that doesn't completely give julie away is the fact that her bewear isn't beside her, though in a cozy cafe like this, the large bear pokemon would stand out like a sore thumb. [break][break]

momo makes a noise that sounds halfway like a squeak. "i, i'm a big fan!" she manages to say. and it's true, she really is, though despite julie's numerous vlogs in hoenn, momo hadn't ever expected to meet her in person like this! "oh, my name is momo! momo sakai! and this is my sylveon, silque!" momo's sylveon waves its ribbon feelers in greeting, smiling calmly in lieu of its excited trainer. [break][break]

now momo certainly isn't internet-famous, but she figures she could add a bit of her own talent and repertoire to the table... "i'm a coordinator, actually! and you've been a really huge inspiration for me." wait, but aren't being internet-famous and contest-famous two totally different things? she explains herself by saying, "because you're so charismatic, and awesome, and plus i really love your vlogs!" she'd been watching one just now to pass the time, but figures she shouldn't mention that in case julie thinks momo is a total nerd after all this. but who wouldn't nerd out when one of their faves is out in the wild like this?! but from the growing murmurs and pointed glances around them, momo figures she's made nothing short of a scene by acknowledge julie out in the open like this. "oh, um, hehe...i guess i got ahead of myself there, sorry!"[break][break]

"i'll be careful!" momo summons her chikorita, lovingly named chica, out to accompany them. the little grass pokemon had once belonged to genevieve, so it means so much to momo that big sis genny would entrust the pokemon in momo's care, instead. chica coos happily, and momo keeps her close, motioning to look out for something interesting. [break][break]

"wait, i think i hear something rustling over there!" the coordinator points to a small grove of trees and the tall grass between them. she hears the cry of a plusle, which prompts her to put a hand on her pokeball. but then, but then she sees it. the butt, the heart-shaped butt that belongs to only one pokemon (that she knows of, anyway). [break][break]

"yamper, you're coming home with me! chica, use razor leaf!" the chikorita sends out a flurry of sharp leaves in the direction of the wild yamper, and the electric dog pokemon yelps out in surprise: perfect. momo tosses a pokeball, and once the capture is complete, looks at big sis genny with stars in her eyes. "i did it!! wow, do you think we could keep going? i wanna find more friends out here!"

"thanks again for helping me out with catching some pokemon, big sis genny!" the coordinator alights at the simple act of being near the senior ranger, a woman more experienced and reliable than momo could ever be, but whose kindness and warmth makes momo comfortable enough to be in her presence, nonetheless. and on top of that, the roads outside of oldale town are picturesque and quaint, making momo think that this scene really is out of a storybook, the kind she used to read when she was younger! [break][break]

"ooh, i hear some rustling, maybe a little guy's nearby?" momo glances around them, curious. she has pokemon and pokeballs for the occasion, she just needs a sign for something that's right for her and her other poke-friends, as well!

momo is so thankful for the rangers of hoenn! they're always willing to help, and so when momo mentioned that she wanted perhaps someone to accompany her to catch wild pokemon, alia song happened to be on standby. of course, momo's pokemon had some battling expertise, but their strengths are more suited to the stage. if anything, she hopes this will be a chance to grow strong, and plus, she's met someone cool as a result! it's practically a win-win on her end! [break][break]

"what do you think we'll find out here, alia?" momo asks, her eyes sparkling with hope and curiosity. "ooh, i just can't wait to find out!" at the moment, the coordinator has her tinkaton out and about with her, though sylveon's pokeball is just a click away should extra poke-power be necessary for today's adventure! though the hammer pokemon looks all too eager to pulverize the nearest unsuspecting pokemon, momo will make sure it doesn't happen so violently. plus, she has a ranger with her! maybe she's about to be blown away by some ultra-cool ranger technique! [break][break]

but if not, it's still fine. momo stays close to alia, and keeps her rosy eyes peeled for any wild pokemon action.

talking to shigure is always a delight. momo has so much to say sometimes, but so few people actually listen to her the way shigure does. or maybe it's more accurate to say that he just gets her, so she can save so much time explaining and just getting to the heart of the matter. it's just like old times! as though the two of them were still in lavender town, letting the calm breeze wash over them, glancing up at the pokemon tower and whiling their time away. [break][break]

those days may be far behind them, but this moment isn't! "but, like, the streamers are so cute! so maybe..." her latest idea about coordinator routines doesn't go without input from the legend themself, shigure. even if it looked like he was nodding off just now, he's quick to give input, and his statement brings the flighty momo back to reality. "you've got a point. maybe i'll stick with the stars and lights that come out of the light screen, instead! yeah, wouldn't want to give aimi a hard time, after all..." though it would be cute to see the tinkaton flail with all the ribbons about, it wouldn't be very professional and professional is important to consider in the world of contests! [break][break]

oh, but that reminds her... "do you want a snack? you look a little tired, so maybe one of my sweets will give you some energy!" it must be hard working at a daycare all day, so helping out a friend is the least she can do to ease the burden. "look, i got these from a shop that sells all sorts of candy and sweets! aren't the star-shaped sugar candies just the cutest?" she says while practically pouring half the package into shigure's open hand.

it had been a completely innocuous afternoon. as in, momo had taken up one of the tables in a cute coffee shop, ordering the pinkest drink for herself, and waiting for her order to be called. after getting her drink, she connected her wireless earbuds to her rotomphone, and started up her required watching for any meal. [break][break]

pau & u!♥ momo smiles: there are countless vlogs in the world, but the one created by julie is, by and large, the best one out there. momo just appreciates how effortlessly cute the woman and her pokemon are, and the different types of content they make. it's her favorite thing to eat meals to and just burn downtime with, and momo would be lying if she said it wasn't great inspiration for her own coordinator performances. how can she encapsulate the essence of cuteness that julie has, and in front of a live audience, no less? [break][break]

"pink drink for julie!" one of the baristas calls out. momo glances for a moment and sees a woman with long hair and a beautiful dress and impeccable nails come to collect the drink, with a dazzling smile that even from the side, momo can tell would cause others to smile, in turn. the coordinator laughs to herself, thinking wow it's crazy how much that woman looks like julie! [break][break]

but the second momo looks at her rotomphone, the world freezes. stops. doesn't move. her eyes slowly, slowly....blink. she inhales deeply, a thousand emotions and thoughts coursing through her. her eyes widen bigger, and bigger, and bigger, and bigger still! she looks from the phone, to the woman! the phone! the woman! the phone! the woman!! [break][break]

"i must be dreaming!" momo actually says aloud, startling the poor guy on a laptop sitting at the table adjacent to hers. "there's no way!" she sees the julie take her order and sit down at one of the empty tables, and momo's heart practically leaps out of her chest. that is her. wow. julie, in the flesh! right here! where momo also happens to be![break][break]

the coordinator brings out her sylveon, silque, from its pokeball. "come with me, just come on!" together, the pink duo slowly makes their way across the cafe, and she waits for julie to set down her things before setting upon her, speaking to her in a voice that's half-excited, half-disbelieving. "excuse me," momo finally says, "but are you the julie?!"

even when contests aren't being held, every moment of practice counts! that is momo's firm belief, and so when she finds that the next event isn't going to be held for some time, she doesn't let that be an excuse to rest on her laurels. slateport is the perfect place to hone her talents! momo finds an empty space near one of the contest halls, and brings out her pokemon to practice. [break][break]

"aimi and silque, just like we practiced, okay?" in a flourish, momo stands off to one side of the space, while her tinkaton and sylveon position themselves opposite of her. "silque, start off with misty terrain! and aimi, follow that up using play rough!" [break][break]

the sylveon hums, its ribbon feelers twisting and turning, eyes closed as a beautiful wave of pink light and sparkles emanates from its very being. the grass beneath their feet is transformed temporarily with a light illusion, the smell of faint flowers and perfume wafting through the air. at the same time, the tinkaton begins moving in a fast and energetic manner, dragging her hammer around and showing off some footwork, playing through the fairy field like some sort of whimsically bizarre figure skater. [break][break]

all in all, it makes for a pretty but perhaps flashy performance, and momo is pleased. as the misty terrain wears off, she notices the sparkles and glitters and hearts start to fade away, and the image of a girl can be seen through the disappearing terrain. "oh, hi there!" momo greets the other, giving a wave. "i'm momo, and my pokemon and i were just practicing one of our routines for the next contest! what'd you think?"
