There were many things he could say about her confidently, but for now he witheld himself, if only to leave others to decide for themselves rather than take his word for granted. But the situation was far from resolved.[break][break]

"She confronted me at one point."[break][break]

Though he may have wanted to drag her name through the dirt, he didn't. Mostly for legal reasons.[break][break]

"If you want to know the specifics, you can ask Razz Kingsman. He was there." And that was that.[break][break]

"...Are we almost finished here? I gotta head out."[break][break]

With a knuckle bump they would say their farewells before heading their separate ways in contemplation of the other's words. A meeting of those from the ruin exploration...? Why? Has something else happened?[break][break]

Whatever it was, it didn't seem directly involved with his altercation, though he couldn't help being suspicious.

Often he finds himself curious about the tree's nature, but it still sends out its roots in swathes to ward off prospective threats, killing any personal interests in the tree dead in their tracks. Team Rocket only wanted their people to patrol it as ordered, and to leave the investigation to their professional hires. Still, his eyes tell him enough.[break][break]

It was dense with infinity energy, the lifeblood of pokemon. Whether that was a reflection of what remained housed within that strange world they'd once endeavored to explore, or a direct representation of the tree's latent power, he couldn't be too sure. Just knowing it was rich with the energy was enough to warn him how much Walsh and his scientists must covet this little trove of theirs.[break][break]

He was meeting Rowan here, who had either taken to their duties more seriously, or was still obsessed with a strange northerly wind he'd oft spoke of in recent memory.[break][break]

Adrian wasn't going to pry, though Rowan had already told him enough about what happened in the Tree of Life for him to have an inkling what it was about.[break][break]

"Hey, you done treehugging for now?" He'd call out to them once they fell within sight, hoping to pull him over into a little sidebar for a time, if not abscond with him for most of the evening. All the while he doesn't notice the crystablooms beginning to bud around the tree, fixating himself on the man before him if not the massive, monolithic tree looming over them auspiciously.

For now, the only thing left to do was to see their mission through to completion. Not that he entirely understood why this wasn't just a PokeJob to begin with. "Have you heard anything involving... Was it Cheren?" Between brain fog and a lack of attentiveness, he blunders over her name, but he intended to say Katherine. Although he hasn't brought it up in some time, it's not something that slips out of mind so easily.

Turned out it was still runnin' dry. They encountered another Honedge, possibly the same one from earlier, and an otherwise unaccompanied Smoochum. Was there a mother figure nearby? Taking a moment to check, Adrian didn't see anything out of the ordinary, and seeing as neither trainer had a marked interest... They let them go. "Bummer."[break][break]

"At least we can see the path." If it dipped, bended or something obstructed the path, they would know well ahead of time, which if nothing else was convenient. He supposed he could just as easily bring a torch, though.

Lilycove was just one of several port cities where Rocket's operations took place. They blackmailed, bribed or otherwise coerced incoming shipment vessels to transport their poached pokemon, captured illegaly, stolen or otherwise brought into the region against the better judgement of the League. But they couldn't unload the cargo in broad daylight or get it past customs.[break][break]

At night they sent runners in smaller, stealthier vessels that could navigate the waters faster. They would 'sneak' aboard the conveniently unguarded vessel, secure the cargo (usually in the form of crates of pokeballs, listed under the manifest as unused) and bring it to the ship before making quick their escape.[break][break]

They would even have the items written off as stolen, thus further depleting precious resources through their fraudulent schemes. Ordinarily, Adrian would want no part of this, but he was compelled to out of obligation. So long as he kept his hands clean of the petty theft, he could hold a clear conscience. Relatively.[break][break]

Overlooking the dock workers from an aerial vantage atop his Magnezone, he cannot help noticing how much worse the light pollution is in Lilycove, and how the highly anticipated inclement weather conditions have not yet struck the port. If any watchful eyes were resting on the dock that night, there would be little to keep their operation from going belly up. Without direct intervention, that is.[break][break]

Observing, he curses under his breath. Adrian's heart is not in the work.

[attr="class","adrianwtw"]In a flash Vileplume is overtaken, its saving grace the fact that Pangoro swipes downwardly to reach it, landing telling blows against its fleshy flower cap—releasing a cloud of spores. The assault is not without its consequence, rattling the creature, but it is poised to withstand the brunt of the attack unabated. For the moment they are at an impasse, or so it would appear, hingent upon whether Pangoro exhibited any adverse symptoms to the Vileplume's volatile pollen.[break][break]

Rover doesn't back down from the confrontation, leaning into the clash, using its flower petals like a shield and targe as Adrian has trained it to over the years.[break][break]

Howitzer tries to outpace Nemo's projectile, but the Swampert's aim was true. The attack succeeds in mitigating her aggression. For a moment it's unclear whether her seemingly unsure footing is due to the watery plant growth covering the rocky outcrops, or due to an altered state of mind. Without missing a beat, Adrian is quick to bark out more orders, but not before the terrain served its purpose. His pokemon would be invigorated by the grassy terrain, which swelled with latent regenerative powers. "Howitzer, burn 'em—Rover, back her up!"[break][break]

Dazzling starlight twinkles around Howitzer as she is reinvigorated by her ally, bringing her back up to speed. For her own part, Howitzer begins sweltering with an unnatural heat. The air around them dries their throats and stings their eyes as the intensity rises, until she is billowing with a hungry torrent of flames licking at the air hungrily. Even the seaspray sizzles and vaporizes where these forces collide.[break][break]

Unsurprisingly the attack has its repercussions. Already the terrain begins to dry out and die, burning like kindling in the adverse conditions, causing the effects too to fade with the ashes. And then it blazes forward brilliantly, cascading over the water and towards the enemy that lie ahead...

[attr="class","adrianwtw"]Vileplume hears it on the wind. A thunderous cacaphony of wingflaps that suggest the arrival of something most sinister. In the distance a Beedrill picks at tree bark for any sap, finding little to nourish itself upon. There are wild Caterpie in the garden, and alongside the berry trees, it makes for a tempting affair.[break][break]

The tilt of Vileplume's petals adjusts as it sizes up the hornet. It hasn't notice it yet, blindly pursuing the berries that are beginning to bud from some of the plants. The Caterpie huddle together defensively, hoping not to be bothered. Vileplume waddles from its station, a movement the Beedrill doesn't fail to notice.[break][break]

Adjusting its position in the air deftly, it takes one look at Vileplume before lunging towards it, a massive stinger leveled at the Vileplume's head. With all the confidence of a seasoned warrior, it simply lowers its head expectantly.[break][break]

The pokemon lodges itself into the flower cap atop its head, when a sickly sweet sap begins excreting from the wound like an unsightly pus. It attempted to free itself, but the sticky substance merely gripped it within the massive, fleshy petal. And slowly, Vileplume would absorb it, until nothing remained but a blemish upon its brow.

They would have to test a few approaches somehow, emulating the methods of the Unown assassins as best they could. Little did he know they had a carbon copy, but that would be a revelation for another time. For now, his Ekans became the center of attention to a few curious pokemon calling the mountain home.[break][break]

A hostile aura pervaded the area as he became woefully bored by the present pokemon, which would flee rather than understand the intentions of this freak of nature. After intimidating the wild pokemon, he turned his attention towards Ekans: "Can you use your spotlight up ahead? I want to see what's up there."[break][break]

He was still getting used to the idea of a snake with a flashlight. It didn't quite feel real to him yet.

If love is a lie, then why do we need it...

While they're forced to wait in line, he briefly scans the area, watching on as families and couples while away the evening hours in their own way. In them he can see snippets of his time growing up with Serena, and their parents; he wonders if Rowan has the same experiences.[break][break]

"Have you heard anything since Sootopolis?" Adrian knew they had to speak discretely, but he was more than curious if their title had afforded them any privileged information. Perhaps he shouldn't expect so much, though.
