THIS IS NOT A CELEBRATORY DINNER. In fact, it’s anything but. Where one front succeeded, the other failed. But no one mentions that aloud. Not when the soldiers on the front line still wallow in the outcome. He gives them a chance to nurse their wounds.

Meanwhile, Fernando resorts to the one attraction that seems to bring everyone back together: dinner. A casual invite is sent to those he knows. The likes of kim cole-essam, Laurence Anderson, kyle lopez, Razz Kingsman, Katherine Fairburne, cait alfric, zenji jabami, illeana reyes, and Stormy Silph are brought together. Whether or not they show is up to them.

More official invites are sent to the League personnel affected. Gym Leaders, both current and old, are sent a message through the League’s main method of contact. noah faber, Zac Ramsay, and John Sullivan are the obvious choices but the spotted appearance of DEREK HOFFMAN earns him a message as well.

A cursory invite is also sent to Remiel Calcifet after deliberation. His thumb hovers over the send button with the same reluctance the Prince had shown with Zekrom. Ultimately, Fernando wagers Zekrom’s presence supersedes his current opinion of the Galarian Ambassador.

“Will you be needing a bigger section?”

Fernando turns his head to reassess the blocked off portion of the restaurant. Several furnaces burn in anticipation of the hotpot to come, and he nods his head.

“A few more seats, please.”

Official League forces on Mount Chimney, such as MATIAS SILPH, Eva Morales, @jess, and Greyson Connors will find an invite their way as well. Kaida Adachi, a ranger Fernando is familiar with, and noted for her appearance at Sootopolis, is summoned too.

Given proper prep time, their section is set well beforehand. Fernando enters first, taking a seat somewhere in the middle. This time, he works out paying for the meal beforehand, mindful of his abrupt departure last time.

No post order; will be posted in regularly to keep up the tempo.

For someone who liked her grand entrances, Katherine arrives without the spotlight of blinding lightning or the sound of deafening thunder. The league, on all accords, suffered a major defeat in Sootopolis despite her efforts.

In her eyes, she wasn’t to blame— but did that matter? The mere thought that she belonged to the losing side for once, that her hometown was conquered by the very same organization she defected from, was appalling. katherine fairburne does not lose. Not battles and not wars.

The first to arrive after FERNANDO SILPH, she claims a seat by his side. Her countenance remains neutral, distant, and almost cold.

Until her lips part to speak.

“I didn’t take you for the type to host a party to celebrate your brother’s promotion,” she jests, a smile breaking the tough exterior she’s maintained until this very moment. “How cute. Were we supposed to bring gifts?”

SHE SMILES. He scowls. One’s amusement comes at the other’s expense. Fernando answers her directly as he always does—through an expression. A scornful exhale intermingles with the cloudy steam in front. It gets lost between the sound of boiling bubbles.

A rare occasion in public brings the two of them together. Alone. With his eyes on the entrance, he feels comfortable enough to entertain her. There’s no amusement on his side. He’s serious.

cait had entered without fanfare, but was perfectly content with doing so as the staff directed her toward the reserved section. she had decided to wear a simple and light yellow dress for the occasion, the visibly pregnant woman's feet covered in sandals with her make up lightly done.

"...?"

once those who were presently in attendance came into view, her gaze immediately caught upon katherine. cait's frown and furrowed brow was immediately apparent, but she quickly schooled her features to appear at least outwardly lukewarm as she greeted fernando.

"sir," she chimed, flashing a hint of teeth. "thank you for inviting me."

cait pointedly ignored fairburne as she moved to offer the man a light squeeze in the form of a hug. she moved to claim a seat for herself as she pulled away - settling at the end of the table.

“I HAVE NONE.”

His stance remains resolute. Despite whatever lies or excuses he may make in public, between those he trusts, Fernando Silph is the only Silph. The rest are just remnants of his parent’s charity project. They share neither the blood nor talent dignified of a true Silph.

“Unless you go by the tabloids.”

He caves not because he agrees but because he can understand the confusion. A shared surname means more to the normal person than it does him.

“They’re no more related to me than you would be if I were to propose to you right now,” he goes on to elaborate. The analogy makes sense in his head but that’s only within the mechanisms of the way his brain paints subjects with broad, generalizing strokes.

Another exhale. Another muted expression of annoyance.

Before he can answer her about Sootopolis, cait alfric enters.

Eyes move from her face toward her belly as he makes a note of her status. Internally, he bites his thumb, sorely disappointed. But that’s where his mood and expectations go to die. He stomachs it with an appropriate smile and warm welcome with a wave of his hand.

“Alfric. Glad you could make it.”

He returns her hug, gauging her current weight as his arms wrap around her. Still light enough to throw down a flight of stairs—a pleasant surprise that makes his smile that much more genuine. Perhaps there's hope in her yet.

“Will Mister Game be joining us today?”

Not that his last encounter with Sénon Game had been bad enough already.

cait reaches into her purse as he inquires about Sénon Game 's whereabouts. she pauses briefly, a hint of a grimace forming.

"tch."

the woman gave a roll of her eyes, pulling out her bottle of green gloss to reapply a fresh layer of colored shine to her lips.

"you already know he won't be."

she proceeds to mutter under her breath, resisting the urge to produce a disrespectful smack of her lips at the thought of her fiancée.

"that man is too difficult sometimes, i swear."

but cait still can't help but adore him.

It was always a special occasion to lay eyes on Cait. When first they met, Katherine judged who would later become her predecessor as a gym leader. Then, her work and contribution as an Avatar were examined with a hint of visible envy in Kat’s tone. Their last clash, during the AQUA ASSEMBLY, signified the start of a great rivalry.

… And this gathering marked the end of it, in Katherine’s eyes. After all, her prophecy had come true.

“It’s good to see you too, Cait,” one of them was at least well-mannered enough to greet the other. “I suppose congratulations are in order, hm?”

“Either way,” she jumps right back to where their conversation abruptly ended, “Brace yourself for what you’re about to hear. You won’t be pleased.”

The ranger is a bit unsure about the invitation. Since the fall of his home city he's been struggling on how to do things as he was mostly a creature of habit and routine. But Rocket has basically stabbed the routine in the back and now he was unsure. Thankfully he was able to sneak it on grab most of the pokemon he had left, Salem being an important one. And its the cat who ends up convinces him to go. [break][break]

Attempt something 'fun.'[break][break]

Not that a group dinner was fun for him, but maybe appearing like things were normal was fine. As he comes in the only one he's actually familiar with was FERNANDO SILPH as cait alfric he only knew from the Ranger Banquet Sénon Game. She was his partner or something like that. Razz didn't fully understand, and the Elite 4 member Katherine Fairburne he's never interacted with before. [break][break]

There is an odd tension in the air as he arrives, but he can't really pinpoint the why of it. Before he takes a seat a few chairs down from Fernando Salem makes sure to tap his head while clinging to his trainer's shoulder. Right, "Uhh thank you for the invite sir," he' formal like usual before giving a nod to the other two.

when you gotta preside a funeral at 8 and dine with Silph at 9.

The funerals for the soldiers fallen to Yveltal's rampage were still ongoing. He should've stayed there.

But FERNANDO SILPH was not his friend. He did not invite him to hang out. He needed to know what happened next.

So he arrived in full, formal uniform, expression blank and eyebags the deepest they had ever been as the waiters crowded around him for his jacket and cap.

His gaze falling upon Silph and his ladies, the youth made a bee line towards them, nodding sharply at the man as greeting towards the man as he did.

Katherine Fairburne was there, but he couldn't summon the vitriol he usually did at the thought of her. Given she had actually fought for them, he couldn't complain much about her.

cait alfric was there as well... hugging the iron man. He wouldn't have expected Fernando to be close to her, or to human beings in general, but what did he really know about anything.

Razz Kingsman was there. Neat.

"What's this about." He asks bluntly as he comes to stand near them all, tone flat.

For him, maybe. The further the wedge develops the easier for him to snatch Celebii’s avatar right out from under him. A child, he can mold, but a grown adult, much less her husband? Tedious. Almost not worth the trouble.

Thankfully, a picture is worth a thousand arguments.

“Failure?”

He fashions a guess before hushing himself to give Katherine the floor to speak. A curt wave is tossed Razz’s way, “Kingsman.”

And, naturally, Fernando scoops a ladle of pure broth into a cup. It’ll sit and cool, ready by the time more arrive.

"Dinner,” he answers. “A brief respite to enjoy a moment of peace before we steady ourselves again.”

The same cup is presented to Doug.

Adorning a somber expression as he entered, the atmosphere of the room was no different. Cait, who was apparently pregnant now, could be heard lamenting over some individual. Two others, Fernando Silph himself and an individual Derek was unfamiliar with appeared to have little good to talk about as well. It was written all over their faces, if not actually said aloud.

Reluctant to change the tune to greetings between him and those he'd been familiar with, Derek quietly waved and took the seat furthest from them all and leaned in to rest against the table. He doesn't bother thanking anyone for anything because, quite frankly, this didn't seem like an occasion for them to enjoy.

cait turned an icy look upon Katherine Fairburne , detecting the underlying smugness that was present within her tone of voice.

"they are in order," she responded, plainly. "but not from someone like you."

the civilian dismissed her immediately afterwards, refusing to acknowledge the uppity female any further.

"john?"

her move lifted the moment John Sullivan made his entrance, but the look upon his face was an unfamiliar one. there was a flatness present she wasn't use to, one that caused her features to convey a hint of concern. his attire was perfect and pressed, the young man appearing like a soldier - and not the youth he was underneath the formal cloth.

his inquiry was a good one. there was a reason behind this meeting - and her guesswork wasn't good enough to accurately determine what. as FERNANDO SILPH made an attempt at easing their worries, she beckoned for John Sullivan to settle beside her; a hopeful smile tugging at the corners of her lips.

He almost slaps the cup off the other man's hand.

He grabs it instead, staring into the surface at his own reflexion and breathing in, then out.

Maybe he should've just stayed in the funerals after all.

"I see." He said, swishing the broth in its cup.

His attention is drawn away towards Cait before he gets his answer, gaze shifting towards her.

"Ms. Cait." He offers in response with a nod, his expression wavering slightly as she gestures for him to join her.

He found himself rooted in place however, expression souring.

"Do we have a complete toll yet?" He asked with all the subtlety of hammer on anvil, diving right for the failure.
