He crosses his thick arms, but he seems friendly in face. "hey." The trainer does not speak much, but when he does, his voice booms deep and rich. "your pokemon have to strike my togedemaru three times without hurting themselves. got it?"[break][break]

The triangular markings are excited, pushing outward into spikes as the Togedemaru executes, SPIKY SHIELD.[break][break]

Around the room, an inscription is written:[break]

Now this quote was quite straightforward. It certainly brought Remiel's mind back to the SPLASH PLATE he held in his possession. He found himself ruminating over it almost every night, tracing his fingers along the chiseled words upon it. Then, inevitably, having to dry them off afterwards.

It wasn't called a 'splash' plate for nothing, after all...

Regardless, the prince settles his attention back onto the challenge at hand and summons a SHINY DECIDUEYE. There was no better contender for this type of thing than TELL, he thought. With his LONG REACH, the Decidueye could make any of its attacks feel like a close-quarters stab or punch.

And, on this occasion, it employs a shadowy force (PHANTOM FORCE) in the shape of an arrow that shoots between IRON BARBS and a SPIKY SHIELD in the blink of an eye. Remiel claps.

"Well done, Tell. Excellent accuracy."

Then he looks expectantly at his teammates afterwards, eyes softening at the sight of luka chêne.

With the challenge won Salem moves to his trainer and climbs within the other's jacket in order to warm up. "Told you that was stupid," he grumbled to the cat who just snuggled up more into his trainer's jacket. Though he perks a bit when Remiel Calcifet speaks about Dynamax energy as it still reminds him of the piece of rock he has. "Dynamax is mostly only in Galar isn't it?" well save on instance but he rather not think about that day. [break][break]

As they make it to the next room Razz's eye narrow at the new passage being shown about the plates. Thinking of his own plus the others that all met up in the church that one day. As he calls for his Decidueye, Link, the bird listen's to his trainer's whistle on what to do. Though seeing the other shiny decidueye part of him is almost offended because clearly he was the superior shiny bird between the two. As it makes sure to show off his beauty and superior movement to strike the challenge pokemon with LEAF BLADE and with his LONG REACH, avoiding damage was easy. [break][break]

Link looks back to his trainer for approval and Razz makes sure to give a thumbs up while Salem gives a clap. Salem's a bit more genuine as Razz knows the other just likes to show off. "So far most the riddles seem relating to something found here in Hoenn, think this is possibly their way of showing they've been spying on us?" Razz ask making sure his voice was low so that the man giving them the challenge didn't hear.

Another room, another snapped photo, another poem that she doesn't understand. Only one stanza stands out to her: "with eternal prayer's verse..."[break][break]

It reminds her uncomfortably of the church basement she'd found herself in all those months ago. The skin of her throat itches, and Luka instinctively reaches for Remiel Calcifet's hand to ground herself.[break][break]

"Mmm..." Razz Kingsman's question brings a soft hum and raise of the brow. "Probably, right? I mean...t-there's been a lot of legendary Pokemon here, apparently. And that man from earlier...since he was the one who gave us those devices, he must know something about what's been happening here." She hums again. "Unown, dimensions, t-the dream zone...I don't know how any of it's connected, but he kind of seems to be at the center of it, don't you think?"[break][break]

She sends out her Cleffa to face their next opponent. Tart offers little battle prowess, but is still able to skip over and deliver a pound that hits as hard as a cream puff against a pillow. The Togedemaru's iron barbs don't harm her, though she does topple backwards with a startled little squeak.[break][break]

From her chair, she speaks, "congratulations on climbing this far. the dark is comforting isn't it? you're concealed by prying eyes. anonymity is an oft forgotten blessing, as we've realized by way of the ultra beast war." She talks calmly, voice enunciating each syllable with refined clarity and tone. Any attempts to identify her will be futile, for the darkness around her seems... impenetrable. "your challenges will become more complex from this point forward. consider this to be the great filter of the fleur tea atelier."[break][break]

"Something big from Galar? Just what have you seen?" he can't help but ask curiously as they've completed the challenge, making sure he heard the answer before moving up to the next floor where darkness and a voice greeted them. Razz focused on Salem as he took a deep breath as he made hold himself back from just creating fire to light the place up. As the possibility that these people weren't affiliated with the avatar hunters wasn't 0. [break][break]

And he rather be safe than sorry, as it was they probably knew Remiel was an Avatar, no need to tempt them with another. [break][break]

So for now he just attempts to strain his eyes looking toward the voice as the dimly lit room barely gives her silhouette. Razz just giving a "Tch," in response as while she claims they're safe in the darkness he highly doubts that. From his pouch he takes out a pokeball can calls on his Lunatone and gives a whistle for an order for them to follow. With a glow of their form MAGIC ROOM is casted.

Green eyes flit between Remiel Calcifet and Eris Halla and fixate on the latter, squinting in the dark. It's not appropriate to bring up now, but she can remember her conversation with Remiel about the Darkest Day, passed on through a game of telephone with Martín del Mar at the helm. Is Eris somehow tied up in all of this too? Luka's face crumples. The poor girl is dealing with enough as it is.[break][break]

"Hold my hand, Eris," she suggests kindly. "If you want. I'd hate for you to trip and mess up your dress!" She masks concern under darkness, though Remiel might feel her fingers tighten around his.[break][break]

"And for now, let's...w-well, let's just get through this together, okay? We, like...totally need our thinking caps on for this, right? But I'm sure we'll be able to figure it out!"[break][break]

Tart remains outside her Love ball and wiggles away before Luka can withdraw her. The roly-poly Cleffa bounces along as cheerfully as anything, chirping happy despite the gloom around her. Though Luka attempts to call her back, it seems that Tart's disarming voice has done the job for her, each cute chirrup impacting their opposing Polteageist from behind it's substitute.[break][break]

It seemed the group might need to have further discussion after they reached the summit of this challenge tower. Offering luka chêne a reassuring squeeze of his own hand, Remiel nods with approval at her support of Eris. He'd offer words, too, but the next test awaits them.

Pleased to see it was a Pokémon he was quite familiar with, Remiel summons his own POLTEAGEIST into the fray: a veteran butler from the same academy EARL GREY had come from. This one, named PENNYCOOK, encircled the opposing Polteageist with an air of elegance and superiority. It very quickly realized it was a SUBSTITUTE.

"You musn't hurt it," Remiel explains, narrowing his eyes at the MYSTERIOUS WOMAN engulfed in shadow across from them. Something about her seemed familiar. But perhaps he was wrong. "So invite it to a spot of tea, instead."

With a haughty chuckle, Pennycook summons the ghostly apparition of a tea-table and tea set, compelling the other Polteageist to participate in this TEATIME and devour its SITRUS BERRY.

WELCOME TO AFTERNOON TEA

YOU MANEUVER THROUGH THE DARK TO THE EIGHTH CHALLENGE. It is dark here too, save for the fading light of waning candles. The trainer ahead of you has their Dragalge before them.[break][break]

TOXIC SPIKES are scattered across the Fleur Tea Atelier's floor. You can hear the sound of a coin being flipped before it is pocketed.[break][break]

"i thought my time was being wasted here— but i finally have some visitors." The voice is muffled somewhat, obscured by some covering of fabric across the mouth. Then again, it is impossible to discern who this person is in the dark. "here's your challenge. if you fail, don't cry when you go home empty-handed. springtime blessing, bah."[break][break]

The mysterious man explains the challenge. Any attempts to find or identify him through light or physical touch will result in him disappearing into the dark.[break][break]

Around the room, there is no inscription visible.

TIP: if there are characters or pokemon left who have yet to act, but have not participated in the completion of a challenge, feel free to have them knock out the opposing pokemon.

It's dark on the next level. So dark, in fact, that it brings new purpose to holding each other's hands.

"I'm certain we aren't the first to greet you," Remiel remarks to the obscured man, reaching to his belt for a luxury ball. "Nor will we be the last."

Tossing his ball forward, he summons a large SWANNA that hovers airborne in the air with steady flaps of its impressive wings. Having noted the gleam of TOXIC SPIKES on the ground ahead of them, Remiel points forward. "Clear the terrain, ADMIRAL."

And, with a powerful gust from its wings (DEFOG), Admiral does just so. Though that leaves the DRAGALGE lurking in the dark ahead of them, untouched...

Feeling that actions are much stronger than words, there is no need to berate the man hiding in shadow for his arrogance. But with this challenge there is definitely a problem with it. And while he doesn't know much about luka chêne he knows the other two are dependable at least. "Eris if you can change it's type" he tells her as Razz grabs a PokeBall. [Break][break]

From it comes out a Toxapex, which thankfully is immune to the spikes and would absorb any the DEFOG didn't get rid of. Once Eris Halla would rid their opponent of their poison type as it would try to attack Razz would whistle for his Pokemon to protect against it with BANFUL BUNKER.

Luka shifts from foot to foot as her team barrels ahead, already with a plan of action for the next challenge. This must be what it's like to be a competent trainer; being able to assess and plan in mere seconds, and having the means to carry out objectives with ease. Meanwhile she's barely managed to get a hang of the basics. The twelve year old holding her hand is a far more advanced battler than she. Razz Kingsman is right to entrust an important task to her instead.[break][break]

So Luka holds back, unsure of what to do with herself when left to her own devices. But she can't just stand there. Notably, when it comes time to choose another Pokemon, she lets go of Remiel Calcifet's hand instead of Eris Halla's to grab another Love ball.[break][break]

She adds her own measly two cents to the group endeavor, releasing Sour Drop once again. The shiny Rotom's pink plasma casts a light about the dimly lit hall, but it's not enough to make out the shape of their challenger in any detail. They cackle regardless and send a thunderbolt towards the Dragalge, who's new water typing makes it an easy target for the mischievous electric type.[break][break]

She can't. The longer she stands in the dark, the shakier she gets. She's averting her eyes from the ceiling and walls, she's holding Luka's hand a little tighter and trying oh so hard to keep her breathing steady. There aren't any monsters that lurk in the shadows but she feels watched. She can feel its presence bearing down upon her, tracing her every step as it considers taking yet another bite right out of her.

Thinking on the spot is a little hard when her mind is clouded over, so she takes any help she can get especially when Reiner starts nudging at her pouch. His snout gently presses against her palms, pushing it towards a certain pokeball and his growls do well in assuring her she has the right choice. In a flash of red, a Masquerain flutters out of its pokeball, dancing gracefully over the spikes as she Soaks the Dragalge. Then she chirps in accomplishment, fluttering out of the way as her teammates work their magic.
