HNN had yet again sent BARNABY FINCH out to cover the dimensional rifts occurring all over Hoenn. Despite this being his fifth encounter with the phenomena, the journalist was still finding both incredible and disturbing things each time he delved into the dark energy. On this particular trip, though, he was testing out a little theory of his.

As they held hands on Mt. Pyre, Martín del Mar had mentioned seeing an odd-looking SCYTHER within these distortions before. At the time, it had given Barnaby an idea. So, when the next distortion inevitably surfaced around Granite Cave, he was already prepared to execute a semi-thought out plan. And film all of it for the public, of course.

Given that several of his Pokémon had shifted in form due to the influence of the distortion, Barnaby wanted to see if SCYTHER would undergo a similar metamorphosis. After crossing into the oppressive interdimensional space, he released a newly acquired SCYTHER bought just for this occasion.

Almost immediately the Bug-type showed similar signs of distress to Barnaby's other affected Pokémon. It fell to it's knees, grimacing in pain as swirls of chaotic energy began spinning around it. Soon enough it was engulfed, crackles of light sparking within the ghastly cloud.

What eventually emerged was indeed a changed Pokémon. SCYTHER-esque, but distinctly not.

[break][break] the static crackle of a broken line made the ranger wince and he fumbled — "aw shit." the phone flew out of his hand and into a stray puddle, water splashing across the electric device and surely enough...

[break][break] ollie hopped off of mocha, to pick up the device — or at least the pieces that remain. a glint of something green catches his eye, and he pockets that too.

[break][break] as he's dealing with his broken phone, however, ollie barely notices the glow that seems to circulate around his stantler. wait, what the fuck? "mocha?!"

he'd read about it before in the reports. instability, rumors about tears in the space-time continuum. honestly, it had seemed like something straight out of one of those movies that mint frost had always tried to get him to watch. after everything that had happened in the star soiree, and everything that Cillian Quinn had told him, it should not have been surprising. especially since jayden had been looking for it in the first place.

[break][break] lightning and thunder cracked above overhead, and jayden winced as he stepped through granite cave. something cold and dark dripped down his neck, though it was hard to tell if it was mere ice-water or something darker or more sinister. one thing was for sure, he hadn't experienced this in kanto.

[break][break] in the darkness, there is a glint of something jade, and he picks it up before narrowly avoiding a fireball to the face from a stray infernal parade. the sight of purple flames draws his attention, and jayden tosses a pokeball at the wild typhlosion ... if that was what it was.

[break][break] he swallows thick, sneakers wet, as he watches his haxorus and weavile fight the onslaught of pokemon that terrorize them. the sounds of claws clashing, and snarls echo through the air, but it's hard to tell who comes from who.

[break][break] shadows are ones that normally comfort jayden.

[break][break] yet, the night is cold.
