character's curry entry

thread summary: reintroduced as the gym leader of petalburg, derek invited citizens of hoenn for a picnic to ingratiate himself to the population and set the tone for his future.

why is it important?: though it may not have been plot relevant for everyone involved, it's a stepping stone for derek's personal goals since returning to the region. after being ashamed for leaving and dealing with the initial media backlash, to being a ranger and being endorsed, this warm reception at his old station gives him the motivational standing to take it a step further & do better.

~~it's also significant because this might be the first hisui variant caught outside of a distortion~~ haha xd

it's also spawned a funny inside joke kind of ordeal between mint, felix and jayden regarding derek as "grill daddy" and thinking derek is mint's father. different strokes for different folks y'know?
