Eva Morales 's KABUTOPS is first on the scene, blasting the HUNTAIL with METAL SOUND. The screech vibrates through the water and it roars in distaste. It's not a huge metal fan, it seems. [break][break]

Locke Jamison ’s WAILORD follows suit, diving down and opening its gigantic mouth to NOBLE ROAR at the HUNTAIL, adding to its confusion and blocking its immediate trajectory upwards. [break][break]
CIAN MAHER recalled his FROAKIE, saving it from being torn to shreds. In an effort to stop the HUNTAIL'S approach to their ship and crew, his POLITOED rushes to catch onto the face to use HYPNOSIS. However, the sleep spell doesn’t quite catch on, as the sea serpent shakes its head angrily while the poor frog clung to its snout. [break][break]
illeana reyes 's DHELMISE follows, moving in position to safely shoot an ANCHOR SHOT that latches onto the serpent, pulling it down towards the trench. As she studies the wall, the twinkle of the mosaic stares back. She can make out people, surrounding an image of the shrine, guarding the eggs inside from a myriad of coiled and tentacled threats, dark and inky, approaching from the bottom of the wall. The battle outside ensues. Adding to the HUNTAIL'S irritation is Elinor Anderson 's SWAMPERT landing a blow near its gullet, choking out any other roars for the moment but not without it slamming it's head, Cian's POLITOED and all, into her partner. Both water types are knocked off, shooting back towards their trainers with force. [break][break]

Gwyar Wledig and wren rourke don’t miss this next opening. Gwyar’s EMPOLEON, despite intensive injuries, chases the giant with DRILL PECK, while Wren’s PSYDUCK paddles with determination, screaming a PSY YAI YAAAAI as their ZEN HEABUTT glows. Both pokemon slam into the brown bone of the HUNTAIL's head. [break][break]
While lilith eirwin recovers after smacking into PENELOPE LIVY , her frantic LUMINEON manages to understand one order. Without further hesitation, it launches WHIRLPOOL at the base of the HUNTAIL's tail, beginning the process of dragging it downwards as water churned and swirled, latching onto the monster. Izumi Yamamura ’s GYARADOS braces the trap, latching onto the tail with a BITE. Kieran Roth calls out his own BRUXISH, and it dashes away to join the GYARADOS at the bottom of the fins and try to help drag it down further. [break][break]

sunny clark 's SWAMPERT and PENELOPE LIVY ’s BLASTOISE join forces using HYDRO PUMP and HYDRO CANON, smacking and redirecting a BITE the HUNTAIL was aiming to somehow hit itself! Fangs dig into its own flesh and scales before it lets out a horrible screech, angry and frustrated. [break][break]
luka chêne and her DRAGONAIR are sent back in the water, slamming into the sand and rock. The HYPER BEAM cuts through the water, bubbling and sizzling with its power. It lands head on strike, the light hitting the monster's midsection before the beam promptly continues upward, shooting out of the water much of the panic of those on the surface. [break][break]

Shalin Nariya steers clear of the threat for now, her MILOTIC struggling to offer LIFE DEW to ollie morales who helps by double checking the immediate trainers for casualties. Perhaps the threat of the moment getting to the pokemon. She at least manages to help luka chêne and her partner brace for impact on their own watery recoil [break][break]
kyle lopez 's PHIONE continued singing through a memory deep within their subconscious. It glows as it TAKES HEART, the light of its strange power bouncing off the walls and giving the room a warm glow. The inside of the shrine shines even more brightly, spilling out of the windows and openings. At just the right time, the HUNTAIL is blinded as something is shined in its eyes and it flails with its eyes shut. [break][break]

This gives @symon his opening to act. He saves his MILOTIC, and manages to stop and catch annalise henderson 's, though both end up slamming into sand. His PRIMARINA MOONBLAST's the HUNTAIL. A pale beam seems to through the water and perhaps feels like the last push for dropping the HUNTAIL back into the trench with all its opponent's beside him. The HUNTAIL, angry, confused, and successfully distracted by a mob of pokemon is unable to dodge or even retaliate to what comes next. [break][break]

Josh Dragomir unleashes his SWAMPERT who promptly MEGA EVOLVES while riding the GYARADOS up to the HUNTAIL. It keeps swimming, aiming higher and higher before dropping down on the serpent like a cannonball. Glowing with iridescent energy, the MEGA SWAMPERT drops the weakened HUNTAIL, and it slams back down onto the sand, half of its body in the trench near its cavernous home, half over the cliffs. It gurgles and chokes, rock and coral impaling its throat and gills. Eyes red with blood and fury. Its mighty tail lashes out, flailing as thick, dark trails of blood rise from its throat before finally it stops and goes limp. [break][break]
[attr="class","expo"]THE AFTERMATH
It is only when the beast is beaten back that the underwater teams realize the distortion is over. The storm has passed, and the intercoms are interspersed with the occasional “DO YOU COPY OVER?” messages. Finally, after paxton concordas can get a head count, he sends back that they are alive, with some casualties. All trainers are directed to pull in close in case anything else would appear. While Paxton swims around counting and recounting people and pokemon, Proff. Remzi has been beside himself with those inside the shrine. [break][break]

Aside from a bit of sand, most of the interior seems preserved.

Copious photos are taken, particularly with the PHIONE Hoenn’s champion had brought. After a particularly emotional lullaby, the pokemon seemed to have curled up to sleep, rocking itself slightly before going still completely. [break][break]

It’s just a hunch, but perhaps your partner experienced life here at one point. If not here, a similar shrine.

Trainers outside are careful, jumpy from the experience of it all. But ropes and hooks are carefully attached. Water-psychics are summoned en masse to assist with movement. [break][break]
[attr="class","expo"] THE ZIGZAGOON SQUAD Nearby, a familiar looking Zigzagoon rushes up amidst the commotion, hiding behind Izumi Yamamura and whining, a BIG PEARL clutched in his paws. It seemed friendly, licking at her hands before paddling away, tail propelling it away. [break][break] Another Zigzagoon appears almost out of nowhere. It floats near PENELOPE LIVY , idly chewing on its snorkel before bumping into her and dropping a BIG PEARL with a yelp. It darts away quickly before it can be stopped. [break][break] Finally, as Kieran Roth ’s BRUXISH returned, it came with a passenger. A Galarian Zigzagoon with sunglasses, holding its breath the colorful pokemon parks itself next to it’s trainer while the Zigzagoon drops its PRIZE before the BRUXISH ferries it away, coming back a few minutes later.
