Having received an electronic RSVP for Julia Davis 's big 21st birthday party, Josh wasn't going to miss this. He asked his secretary working that day, ANDREW WEISS, to send out a mass email to all his scheduled challengers that due to a scheduling conflict, all appointments for that day needed to be rescheduled. He felt bad for having to be the one to cancel, though the wait times weren't nearly as bad as they were before. Rather than months, as it was when Josh first became a Gym Leader, the wait time to get an appointment was a matter of days.

Off the shores, Julia Davis and Isaac Merlo may have noticed a familiar face: Mauville City's Gym Leader. It may have been difficult to recognize him, but it would not be difficult to recognize the quite-large Sharpedo bouncing around the waves loudly. The full-blast stream of AQUA JET being expelled from his rear propelled him to speeds only one person was well-known to not only tolerate, but enjoy.

Taking a sharp left, the Gym Leader rocketed toward the beach before sharply pulling back on the shark's fin. Snacker tilted his nose skyward to create as much drag as possible. It wasn't enough, though; the Sharpedo, unable to slow down enough, got his bottom fin stuck in the shallows, forcing Josh to hold on with everything he had to avoid being sent flying. "Easy, Snacker!" the Master of Faster tried to calm the sea bully, but to no avail. The dark-type continued to flail about, bucking him off. After catching his breath, he withdrew the Sharpedo and greeted his two friends. "Hey, long time no see, both of you!"

Not long after Josh had landed at Julia Davis 's beach party, the familiar sound of Beedrill wings churning would be difficult for party-goers to ignore. Those who didn't know Shalin may have been terrified at the sight of a rather large Shiny Beedrill, though those fears could have been short lived if they noticed the foam spheres covering the bug-type's foreleg and rear stings. A Flygon chirped behind the duo as well, glowing green from her SYGNA SUIT's energy flowing between them. She even looked like a Flygon, her green hair mimicking the Pokémon's lung head scales, shields that looks like compound eyes covering her eyes in the lightest shade of red imaginable.

Once the maddening noise had ceased with the Beedrill landing a good distance from the party, as to not blow away any glasses, bottles, or even entire tables with the wake of her wings, Shalin removed her earplugs and waved to her friends. "Hi Julia! Hi Isaac! Long time no see!" she cried, excited to at last show the Fortree Ranger the Sygna Suit they had talked about at her own birthday party in the sprint. Unable to wait, she scooted almost all the way forward in the saddle as Queen Zing lowered her wings almost all the way to the ground. Rather than normally dismounting her partner, she slid down her large and broad left wing. Her Pokémon raised the wing's angle to catch her and keep her from falling off. She grinned, wondering how many questions her friends would have about her suit's physics-breaking power.

Surprised to see someone as busy as the Top Champion at the beach party, Josh gave Kyle a greeting wave. "Didn't expect to see you here! Thanks again for the little pick-me-up by Lilycove." At first stumbling to his feet but quickly regaining his balance, the Mauville Gym Leader approached Kyle and whispered toward him, "I think she'd appreciate a run on Suicune for her birthday. You know... because of what happened that day." The expression on his face did little to hide that he just wanted an excuse to see Raikou again, given that those two usually appeared alongside one another.

With the Sharpedo gone, the medium-sized, wrapped box the shark was carrying had disappeared with it. "Whoopsie," the Gym Leader smiled, letting out his Pokémon again just long enough to get the package out from underneath its harness. He slid the package near the stack of birthday gifts. Inside was a Suicune plush similar to the Raikou one Josh kept at his desk at the Gym, large enough to cover one's face when cuddled, but not overly large to be awkward to carry. It would be clear when Julia saw it that it was produced in Johto and was of high quality.

Once the gift was placed with the others, Josh would approach Julia Davis , waving to Chester. It had been a while since he had seen the Dodrio, the Pokémon she had competed with at his Gym. "I'm fine; Snacker was just a bit too excited to see you. Happy 21st, Julia!" he smiled. "It's a big one, too. A lot of places in the world don't consider people adults until they get to 21. The way Hoenn is, adulthood here might as well be age 13. People here don't tend to last long without being as responsible as an adult, heh." He immediately cringed upon saying those words. Perhaps the joke was a little distasteful, but it was too late to rescind it now.

His eyes shifted toward Shalin Nariya 's antics. A second or two of the madness was all he needed to see before tilting his head away. How was she not about to violate a noise ordinance? Furthermore, how was her body not about to turn to mush? He had heard stories of what the girl's Sygna Suit could do, but hearing it and seeing it were totally different. He got a bit closer to Julia before whispering, "Pardon my Kalosian, but she's fucking crazy."
