why does it always, always come back around to sand? the last time she'd been here had been to fight the rampaging titans alongside Gunner Graves, lam logan, and robin coello. and it had taken weeks to get the last of the annoying grains out of her sygna suit's greaves. and now she's back, silver armor glittering in the dusky orange sun.

the horned draconid turns her head to consider her companions, pleased to know she's familiar with them. desiree is an exemplary gym leader and elise a ranger captain so she's at ease with the scope of their mission. silverio is a bit of a wildcard, but a cursory glance at his file after meeting him at her banquet informed her he's a respected senior ranger.

"try and stay together," she says and holds out a few pairs of desert goggles. sand skitters over her feet. "the storms can get rough out here. we'll want these when one of them rolls in."

he can vividly recall the first time he had stepped foot in this daunting domain, he and keiko mori had come dangerously close to being eaten alive by a gargantuan orthworm. needless to say, that was an experience that he wishes he'll never have to redo. in retrospect, however, history does seem to have a strange way of repeating itself. and it is through this apparent repetition that he finds himself returning to these daring dunes. like the first time though, he's not alone, thankfully.[break][break]

silverio is commissioned to accompany a familiar lot on what is sure to be a impactful yet strenous expedition. he offers a brief once-over to the motley crew: desiree, a gym leader whom he met while on a self-remedying tour through slateport -- may he gain an opportunity to challenger her someday. elise, his captain -- he's worked with her directly on a vast number of occasions, with each being equally as enjoyable as the last. and then there's freya, a figure seemingly held in high regard within the league, and while he hasn't had much of a chance to get better acquainted with her, the paldean can imagine being in good enough hands with her.[break][break]

taking a set of desert goggles and firmly strapping them around his neck for the moment, his attention draws towards the atmosphere to gauge the team's surroundings, then back to the group. "right, and if by chance we get some... a brief pause, silent reminiscence. "...uninvited guests coming over, i've got your backs. i'm inclined to say that a sandstorm may be the least of our worries."

The Ultra Desert is a harsh and unforgiving place much like the Ultra Plant that Elise had visited with Josh and his group. It also wasn’t the coldest place either as she takes care not to let sweat onto her clothing. Collected sweat is onto the ridges of her dark blue short-sleeved blouse and frilled skirt, even it has gotten to her red rose choker too. [break][break]

Galar was the coldest when it was in winter. She’d rather like being outside in the colder weather of her country than to be in the desert’s heat.[break][break]

“I will stick close, Councilwoman Morningstar.” The ambassador nods to the blonde councilwoman while following after the other members of their ragtag crew. Desiree and Silverio were there which gave her comfort through the unfamiliar Ultra Wilds. "I am not very used to the humidity, given that my country is the coldest in winter." [break][break]

By the ambassador’s side is the glowing Illumina Skitty that helps to keep her trainer cool with holding in an Ice Beam to create snowy particles out of her mouth. The snowy air blows onto the Galarian royal, ensuring that she is cooled off from the Ultra Desert’s heat while the sandstorm covers the air.

Desiree was never much of a gambler when it came to casino, save for the glowing slot machines with all the cute little animations- playing at the table was not her forte. But, when thinking of the suits of cards, it appeared that herself and those she accompanied resembled each suit. Elise was hearts, as were the rest of her girls. Freya, with wisdom unmatched, was spades. With the inspiration of a Paldean champion-ranked, Silverio was clubs.[break][break]

And she, of course, was diamonds. Luckily she had familiar faces by her side following the traversal, as wandering into unfamiliar rifts was a gamble in itself… and the amount of wild cards would end up winding their way into their pack, one way or another.[break][break]

”As will my blossoms and the fae,” she responded softly to the man first, catching her breath before the sandstorm brought a cough, ”.. thank you for the supplies, Miss Morningstar.”[break][break]

Pulling the bands of the goggles around her head always brought her back to the penitentiary, though she did it regardless. Unearthed treasures and obligations to the league, and by proxy, her idea of a world of love, took ultimate precedence over the dark thoughts that lurked within.[break][break]

”Hibiscus, move three,” she spoke to her Meganium, quick to channel, ”.. does anyone else have experience here worth noting? It’s quite different from the Mechanical Kingdom and the Ultra Deep Sea here.”[break][break]

A glowing LIGHT SCREEN manifested before them, curved at the edges to lessen the sand carried by the wind in their direction. Though it was not the best, the plant creature tried its hardest to move it around the four by sensing the direction the sandstom’s winds traveled through its antennae.

no sooner had she stretched her own pair of goggles over her face did the winds pick up with a frenzy. lyune has weathered harsher storms, but still his eyes narrow to slits and tension knits in his limbs as he trudges through the sand. she reaches for his ball at her choker, but ends up staying her hand.

like her companion says, the sandstorm might be the least they have to worry about and in a pinch, she'll want the beastly dragon ready and at her side.

"first time here," she says and grains of sand flit into her mouth. eugh. thankfully desiree's meganium protects them from the worst of the storm. "spent more time in crater and the deep sea."

the latter had been a warfront, but that isn't what stopped her from venturing there. dark ichor, a keening chorus of angels, and @baki made host - that is why she cannot stomach the sight of the sea.

a footfall meets more resistance in the shifting sand and she pauses, crouching down to unearth an urn. it's simple in nature, with few markings to give away its origins. she knows it's not draconid, at the very least. i'll have to take this to howard slayte, she thinks and drops another pokeball.

one of her flygon emerges, saddlebags at the ready. vadrok chirps happily at seeing his immediate surroundings and freya's mouth squirrels as she packs the urn away.

"he can carry whatever we find," she says, raising her voice to cut through the wind. vadrok's screech of approval is a desert hymn. the sound is spun into the storm, surprisingly pleasant.

it appears that the storm wastes no time in brewing, which prompts silverio to raise the goggles to firmly settle on his eyes to shield them from the blinding sands. but again, the sands are not the worst of the many viable hazards that may present themselves in a realm that can be assumed as real. alas, as a young trainer who has traversed through many contrasting climates during his upbringing, silverio has grown accustomed to several scenarios where mother nature may have one of her foul moods. in retrospect, concerns for his comrades begin to bloom in his mind.[break][break]

when asked about past experiences in the desert, he awaits a turn to answer. as it sounds, the others seem to be lacking in that sense. recalling the moments where he'd come close to being trampled over by massive creatures and the discoveries made by he and his running mate at the time, he reaches for his waistband to secure a pokéball as his offhand moves to brush some specs of sand out of his hair. he then explains to the rest of the group..."i had come here once before; i was assigned to aid an adventurer in their expeditions..."[break][break]

he finally releases the ball, and out comes a creature donning an unusually radiant steel-blue hide, one that had learned necessary skills and had evolved far sooner than he would've expected, borderline paradoxically. nidoking stands at the ready, unfazed by the unforgiving sands. "my friend here can help with any heavy lifting." the monstrous pokémon begins swinging his cast-iron tail across the terrain, like an archeologist brushing dirt off from a fossil.

“I do not have experience in the Ultra Desert, no.” The ambassador replies to her pink-haired friend. She has been to the deep sea, the underworld, the mechanical kingdom, and the barren terrain in Ultra Plant. A desert like this ultra wilds was not something she hadn’t been to before.[break][break]

“It is very different than the mechanical kingdom or the deep sea.” She notes, not that she wasn’t very adverse to exploring an area unfamiliar to her. On the contrary, the Ultra Desert would have to be mapped out and studied, even her cousin might have explored this one.[break][break]

Rocks had blocked the way of the Nidoking landscaping the desert. Elise sends out her Aerodactyl to help with the obstructions in the purple king’s way.[break][break]

“Seteth, let’s help our Nidoking friend with the terrain too. Crush those rocks.”[break][break]

The flying Aerodactyl crushes the boulders and rocks with a Crunch, his teeth bites onto the solid rock. With his teamwork with Silverio’s Nidoking, the rocks that stood in the landscaping were smashed to bits by the strong teeth of the flying dinosaurian Pokemon. Elise's Illumina Skitty looks at the strength of the Aerodactyl since she wanted to get stronger too.

She was much more prepared than last time, if that gargantuan hunk of steel were to appear again- though hopefully not. In a world as different as this one, perhaps this one’s reiteration, made of gold rather than steel, would be more easily quelled. More susceptible to diamond lilies and fairy cries. Much smaller, able to be held in a cage rather than the unbound ruin of its own doing.[break][break]

A Scream Tail screamed and rushed forward the second it was released, erratically channeling the energies of ancient fairies rather than modern; more vicious, and certainly less graceful. Finding a hunk unplucked from the sandy ground, it CRUNCHED with each and every tooth, imagining it to be a Roaring Moon instead.[break][break]

Its way of loving was to be as ruthless as possible, keeping anything and everything away from the one that sought to bring the world of love into existence once more. Despising dragons was only one facet of its strange, paradoxical mind.

beneath the shifting sands are rubble and ruin. vadrok, while pleased to assist his mistress, refuses to simply be reduced to a lowly pack mule. so he follows in the wake of the others' pokemon, drawing valuables from the uncovered sands with his claws.

freya startles at the obsidian-esque crystal he manages to find. she doesn't recognize it at once, nor its close resemblance to the monster it more than likely comes from, but it puts her off enough that she stuffs it in the bag rather quickly.

vadrok's nose is in the sand, wings fluttering with enthusiasm, when he suddenly yanks his head up and swivels. his cry is aimed towards desiree's scream tail. freya shouts into the wind, albeit uselessly, to watch out, but her voice is stolen before the not-so-defunct electrode begins to spark.

"TAKE COVER!" she yells.
