annalise notices the way ever blackwell stiffens at her words and feels a pang of guilt once her agitation subsides. the trainee hadn't meant anything by it, she knows, but her patience has grown thinner in the months since her release. rather than apologize, she carries on like she hadn't noticed his reaction, collecting the bug pokemon into pokeballs and handing the other ranger a REPEL.[break][break]"oh. yeah, no problem. i'll get this stuff out of your way for you."[break][break]she zips up her backpack and hefts it onto her unoccupied shoulder. her rookidee chirps, inconvenienced by all of her movement. they both look at ever as annalise takes a step toward his front door. [break][break]strangely, the storm abates with his willingness to listen. her gaze slides across the horizon, watching her togekiss draw the kyogre back out into open ocean. [break][break]the frostbitten, hard ground rises to meet her back, pushing the air out of her lungs. she lay winded for a moment, witnessing the pinhole sky above tinge pink as paxton concordas 's porygon captures ice and DRACO METEOR debris. [break][break]she sits up, watching it rain down on the rockets, watching them retreat.[break][break] her opportunity to kill THEO BECKETT slips through her fingers like grains of sand. [break][break]"no!" her altaria fires another DRAGON PULSE, but it just leaves a scorched emblem of her failure where the pair had once stood. she stares at it intensely as though she can will them back until cotton candy nudges her out of it. she blinks, then touches her earpiece.
