Then, they are interrupted. Navy suddenly plays the role of a captive audience. Hattori, who never left his Lord’s shadow, does not share that hesitation. dahlia goode’s shadow bubbles. Nothing bursts from that shadow, but the most important person in the room is afforded protection should the Dark Triad decide now is the time to snip the serpent’s head.[break][break]
But they don’t. It seems to Navy that the very woman he was talking about, the mysterious white-haired lady from RKS, simply arrived to deliver cryptic words concerning time. They’re words for smarter men than he. When she departs, he is left in stunned silence, and Hattori returns to his shadow.[break][break]

Arceus, whatever she went through in Hisui sure sharpened her battle senses, “and pray the Dark Triad doesn’t make a move.” It’s weaker than he’d like, given how convinced she seems to be that harm will befall the people around her, but he thinks it’s all she’ll get.[break][break]
“For my part, I’ll ask her to help out Beau Fontaine and me with monitoring the ruins of granite cave. Arceus knows we’ll need the help if Sea Hoenn’s about to invade from there.”

Two words draw him back to the present. Some, like Naomi Sato, might say they’re the two most important words in this discussion. DRK Triad. The mysterious people overseeing all this, prophesizing the deaths of all universes. It’s cosmic warfare, something a man with a middle school education is ill-equipped to understand.[break][break]
“Speaking of them,” he begins, sitting up in his chair, “there’s somethin’ I need to say. It came to my attention a few days ago.” A nod over to Greyson Connors. “I tried to find you in the Weald to tell you about it, but I’ve been having trouble dreaming these past few nights.” He prays that will save him from freya morningstar’s reproach, having born witness to it firsthand in gym jam when Alexei put his foot in his mouth about Tornadus.[break][break]
“It’s about one of the rangers. Yuina Higashi. When I was interrogating bryan delarosa the other day, he revealed that the Dark Triad interrupted a fight between Yuina and him in Mossdeep. It was the, uh, white-haired one. The one from the RKS sim, I think. She said ‘you’re doing everything right’.” He takes a moment, lets that settle in.[break][break]
“I looked into Yuina’s past and confronted her about what Bryan said. The short version of what I learned is that Yuina Higashi didn’t really exist before last year. According to her, she has no memory of her life before that time except for this: she lived in a place called Hisui. Ancient Sinnoh. I don’t know much, but I believe her.” A hand scratches at a pronounced white streak in his beard. There are other worlds than these, and the notion of travelling to another time does not, just now, seem strange.[break][break]
“It sounds to me like she might be a dark triad sleeper agent. Could be they grabbed her before she got sent to Hoenn. Programmed her with some mission. Yuina’s agreed to voluntarily surrender herself into our custody, but I wanted to bring it up here first.”

Arceus, those precincts were sewers.” Dahlia would have done her best to clean them up, he’s sure. Dahlia Goode has a politician’s air, a politician’s knack for empty promises and promises half-fulfilled, but he’s served her as an Elite Four for long enough to know she cares, that the smile is genuine, that she is what Ulysses Monroe pretended to be.[break][break]
Arceus, coming back to Slateport always gets me thinking about stuff like this.[break][break]
“Anyway…what’s stopping us from going right now? The landlord still cooking that curry that could make Moltres cry from how spicy it is?”

Even without a god of her own, she can think her way out of most predicaments. Each of kyle lopez’s Elite Four had their strengths, certain aspects of Kyle that Navy sees in them.[break][break]
MATIAS SILPH has Kyle’s raw strength, so rarely brought to bear. Greyson Connors is a symbol soldiers can rally around, as the champion must be. Melody, and Melody alone, could truly match wits with Kyle Lopez. It made watching he champion match a delight.[break][break]
“I kind of…worry ‘bout somethin’ like that, too.” There is nothing he can say about Madeline that will comfort that he has not already said. She’s evil, a human sort of evil that seems outright banal compared to monsters like Necrozma or the Dark Triad. “My dad and your mom are two peas in a pod.”

None of you guys deserved to be caught up in that. That’s part of why I became a gym leader. My brother, he’d be a little older than you, died when Sootopolis first got taken over by Rocket. Got stabbed.” A nod down at a wound in his shoulder, slowly knitting, placed there courtesy of Aoki Hana. “Montgomery saved my bacon. Craziest thing, I saw Noel Parker and this civilian chick riding Entei. Kyogre went after them. I interposed. Got hit by an origin pulse and Calyrex’s lance.” His physical body quivers in the lake, residual marks of primal energy exposure still dotting his body. Black lines snake across his body like black veins pumping malevolent blood.[break][break]
“Freya got swallowed up by Kyogre. Turns out it was all an elaborate play by Walsh to get Freya there. He needs her to calm Kyogre down, since she’s Rayquaza’s avatar.” There is a nigh imperceptible hint of jealousy in those last two words. Though a commonborn son of the soil, he once dreamed of soaring the sky on emerald wings. They’re dreams for better folk than he, like freya morningstar or Eva Morales.[break][break]
“Arceus, what a mess, huh? At least Gwyar managed to push their general back into the sea. Glad Baki n’ you made it out of Petalburg alive.” A pause while he listens to the hum of the mist. “That was just the beginning, Eddie. This is gonna be a long war.”

A long, slow exhale follows the older man’s words. The wounded phantom feels typecast. Long, long ago, in another life, a client told the young Michael Navidson he was more like a cowboy than a detective. Things always end in a shootout when he’s involved. A warrior’s life demands a blood toll. That’s his life, boiled down to its bare essentials. There’s always a fight. Always a fast draw. Always a wound or a near miss.[break][break]
How easy it would be to rush for his pokeball, throw out Shuwen, and see who emerges on the other side whole. What a wonderful fight it would be. This man, whoever he is, has the eyes and voice of one whose soul is steel.[break][break]
But he doesn’t go for his pokeballs, not the ones at his belt or the hidden seventh. He speaks.[break][break]
“I’ll cut the shit. I’m one of the Elite Four. Michael Navidson, but call me Navy. League’s got me scouting these bunkers. Look, we can fight, if you want, but this’d be a poor place for either of us to die. So let’s figure out something else instead.”[break][break]
He expects a red flash. His hand scratches his chest, just over where the pokeball dangles beneath the poncho. The other will get his out first, should this break down, but it will be a close thing. Even if it costs him first blood, he extends the olive branch.[break][break]
“Think it’s safe to say Rocket’s already claimed this bunker, yeah?”

Attacks that might have otherwise struck innocents are aimed at the spartan shield wall, finding no purchase there.[break][break]
“Gyarados.” Curses Navy. “It’s always gotta be Gyarados.” His brother’s first Pokemon haunts him like a specter, throwing itself at him again and again and again in whatever form Hoenn’s latest calamity decides to take. Those words are the only grumbling he allows himself. Otherwise, he’s all business. A tera orb is already in his hand, along with a cavalry saber that seems to appear from nowhere.[break][break]
“Roland! Make like the Light Brigade.” Whatever his message means, the Iron Valiant understands. He grasps the thrown weapon in one hand, a crown of electricity appearing atop his head. “Two of ‘em.” He notes the Dhelmise. “Got any, huh,” a moment as he remembers what Dhelmise is weak to, “fire or dark types? Ice works too.” He does not tell her to leave, for heroism is a choice and Vespa has made hers.

A foreign concept, these other worlds. It is as if the fabric of existence itself conspires to tear everything they know apart at the seams. Worse yet, it comes for Dewford. When the commissioner’s screen displays his frozen town, Navy’s expression is equally cold. Mist gathers around him as his right hand tightens into a fist.[break][break]
“This is the first I’m hearing about this.” He forces the worry out of his voice, forces calm neutrality. “Prehistoric? Like some of the plants in the Great Crater?” Images of an army of paradox Pokemon overrunning the town flood his mind. Some in Sea Hoenn would call it just, he imagines.[break][break]
“I’ll make sure my deputies and the soldiers stationed in Dewford are patrolling Granite Cave regularly. The last thing we need’s an invasion from this Sea Hoenn place while we’re fighting Rocket.” Navy thinks of Naomi Sato, who tries to warn them all against a greater enemy. Aiming your sword at one exposes your back to another.[break][break]
“Are we dealing with a potential invasion here, or do you think they’d be willing to talk?” The question tastes stupid on his tongue as he asks it, given what has transpired between their peoples. All the same, he feels it a question that must be asked.
